The 2026 ASUS ExpertBook Ultra (B9406) stands out because its 14-inch Tandem OLED is unusually bright, high-resolution and glare-resistant for a business laptop. The premium panel runs at 2880×1800 with a variable 30–120Hz refresh rate, reaches 600 nits in SDR and up to 1,400 nits in HDR, and uses a matte Gorilla Glass Victus surface. That combination makes documents easier to view in bright offices and on planes, although the anti-reflective coating slightly softens text and reduces the vividness associated with glossy OLED.
What the ASUS ExpertBook Ultra is
The ExpertBook Ultra B9406 is ASUS’s premium 14-inch business notebook for 2026. A magnesium-aluminum chassis keeps the tested configuration to about 0.99kg (2.2lb), yet it includes performance hardware normally found in heavier machines. LaptopMedia tested a model with Intel’s Core Ultra X7 358H processor, 32GB of LPDDR5X memory and a 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD. Windows Central reviewed the same product family and described the 0.99kg chassis and 3K Tandem OLED option.
The machine targets professionals who carry a laptop daily but still need strong integrated-graphics performance, modern security features and ports for desks, projectors and external displays.
The Tandem OLED display is the main reason to buy it
Bright, sharp and fast
The premium screen measures 14 inches diagonally at 2880×1800 resolution. Its 30–120Hz variable refresh rate allows smooth scrolling and animation while lowering refresh activity when a static document is on screen. LaptopMedia measured 600 nits for SDR use and up to 1,400 nits HDR peak brightness. Gorilla Glass Victus protects the panel.
#1 Best Overall
- Windows 11 Pro - ASUS recommends Windows 11 Pro for business
- The world’s lightest 14” OLED business laptop, weighing a mere 2.18lbs
- Intel Core 7 processor (Series 1)
- Dedicated Copilot key for more AI exploration
- Sustainable across the product lifecycle
ASUS also lists a conventional OLED option rated at 450 nits SDR and 1,000 nits HDR. Check the exact panel specification before ordering because brightness depends on the configuration.
What the matte finish changes
Gorilla Matte cuts reflections from windows, overhead lights and travel lighting far more effectively than a glossy OLED. Reviewers praised the panel’s contrast, color coverage and accuracy, making it well suited to spreadsheets, text-heavy work, photo review and presentations.
The trade-off is optical softness. Fine letter edges and detailed images can look a little less crisp than on a glossy OLED, and colors appear less punchy because the matte layer scatters some light. This is not a resolution problem—the panel remains 2880×1800—but a finish choice. Buyers who work mostly in controlled lighting and prioritize maximum perceived clarity may prefer the standard glossy OLED option; frequent travelers and open-office users are more likely to appreciate the matte treatment.

- Thin-and-light design for portability — Slim profile at just 0.65 inches thin and a lightweight all-metal 2.84 lb chassis.
Business hardware and connectivity
The tested configuration provides two Thunderbolt 4 ports, two USB-A ports, HDMI 2.1, Wi-Fi 7, Windows Hello facial recognition and a fingerprint reader. That selection supports a dock, wired peripherals and a presentation display without requiring a hub in many office setups. Exact port counts can vary by regional or retailer configuration, so verify the listing for the model you are buying.
The keyboard received positive comments from PCWorld and Windows Central, while the haptic touchpad provides a firm, consistent click without a mechanical button assembly. The lightweight chassis is the Ultra’s other major advantage: it is exceptionally portable for a 14-inch system with this class of processor and display.
Performance and battery life
Everyday and graphics performance
Intel’s Core Ultra X7 358H configuration has 16 cores and integrated Intel Arc B390 graphics. PCWorld recorded 9,892 in PCMark 10, indicating substantial headroom for office multitasking, large spreadsheets, browser-heavy workflows and light creative work. Integrated graphics are suitable for casual acceleration and productivity, but this is not a replacement for a workstation with a discrete GPU.

Runtime depends on how you use the screen
LaptopMedia measured 14 hours 19 minutes of video playback from the 70Wh battery at 180 nits SDR. That is a strong result for such a light laptop. PCWorld characterized overall battery life as typical rather than exceptional, and LaptopMedia noted that it is not class-leading against some Dell and Lenovo alternatives. Bright HDR content, a 120Hz refresh rate, sustained processor loads and video calls will reduce the result substantially.

Price and value
Windows Central listed $3,599.99 for its reviewed ASUS configuration in 2026. That is an unusually high price for a business laptop, and the review judged it difficult to justify for most buyers. Retail prices, available processors, memory, displays and regional taxes vary, so treat that figure as the price of the specific reviewed configuration rather than a universal B9406 price.
The premium makes the most sense when a very light chassis and a genuinely usable bright matte OLED are more important than maximum value. If your work is mainly email and documents in a dim office, a less expensive business model with a conventional IPS or lower-cost OLED panel may deliver the better return.

How it compares with ThinkPad, Dell Pro and EliteBook options
Use the following checkpoints rather than comparing processor names alone:
- Display: Confirm whether the rival uses a matte or glossy finish, its measured SDR brightness and whether HDR is meaningful for your applications.
- Portability: Compare complete travel weight, including the charger, not just the laptop.
- Input quality: Try the keyboard and pointing device if possible; these affect eight-hour workdays more than benchmark scores.
- Performance: Match CPU and graphics capability to your workloads. The Ultra’s integrated Arc graphics are a strength, but discrete-GPU systems remain faster for 3D and GPU-accelerated production work.
- Endurance: Compare tests performed with similar brightness, refresh-rate and video-call settings. The Ultra’s 14h 19m video result is not a guarantee of all-day heavy-work runtime.
- IT requirements: Check biometric support, firmware controls, docking compatibility, warranty terms and service options.
- Upgrades and repair: The tested model’s soldered memory cannot be replaced later, so choose enough RAM at purchase.
- Total price: Include the required RAM, storage and display configuration rather than comparing entry-level prices with a fully specified Ultra.
Known caveat: inspect the hinge
Windows Central found a loose hinge on a pre-production review unit. The publication reported that later retail units it tested did not show the problem. When your laptop arrives, open and close the lid through its full range and confirm that it holds the angle you set. Exchange a unit that droops or will not stay positioned; a loose hinge is not normal wear on a new machine.
