The Intel ASUS ExpertBook P5 G2 is the better fit if you need Thunderbolt 4 and value the longer Wi-Fi browsing runtime Notebookcheck measured on its test unit. The AMD sibling produced the higher score in the review’s sustained multi-thread benchmark. Neither result makes one processor family universally better: the comparison is between specific configurations, and your best choice depends on workload, ports, price, and the exact regional SKU.

Which ExpertBook P5 G2 configurations are being compared?

ASUS identifies the P5605CAA as the 16-inch Intel ExpertBook P5 G2. Its US specifications list Windows 11 Pro and a Core Ultra 7 356H option with 16 cores and 16 threads, Intel Graphics, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, two USB-A ports, Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI 2.1 TMDS, two DDR5 SO-DIMM slots, and support for up to 64 GB of memory. The listed US display is a 16-inch, 16:10 WQXGA panel (2560 × 1600), with an anti-glare finish, 400-nit brightness, and 100% sRGB coverage. See ASUS’s US technical specifications.

Notebookcheck tested the P5605CAA-XS76: Core Ultra 7 356H, 32 GB of DDR5-5600 memory operating in one channel, 1 TB storage, a 16-inch 2560 × 1600 144 Hz IPS display, and a 63 Wh battery. The review says the second SO-DIMM slot is available for a memory upgrade. These are the reviewed unit’s details, not a guarantee that every P5605CAA sold has the same configuration.

The AMD comparison was an ExpertBook PM5 G2 with Ryzen AI 9 HX 470. Notebookcheck describes the compared systems as otherwise sharing the display and external design, but the processor, battery capacity, and test results differ. ASUS says specifications and availability can vary by country and change without notice in its US launch announcement. Confirm the complete SKU and local specification sheet before comparing prices or placing an order.

How do the Intel and AMD models compare?

Comparison point Intel P5605CAA-XS76 AMD ExpertBook PM5 G2 comparison unit
Processor Intel Core Ultra 7 356H AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 470
Battery capacity 63 Wh 70 Wh
Cinebench R15 multi-loop average 2,163 points 3,272 points
Wi-Fi web-surfing runtime 15 hours 34 minutes Not stated in the cited comparison
Thunderbolt 4 Two ports listed for the US Intel configuration Not established for the AMD comparison unit

The benchmark averages are Notebookcheck’s 2026 Cinebench R15 multi-loop results. The review says it ran this benchmark section in Performance mode in Windows and MyASUS. The AMD unit scored higher in that sustained multi-thread test; the result does not establish how every application or configuration will perform.

Notebookcheck measured 15 hours and 34 minutes of Wi-Fi web browsing on the Intel review unit. That is a specific test workload, not a promise of that runtime for mixed everyday use. The Intel system achieved the longer runtime in the review despite having a smaller battery than the AMD comparator. Notebookcheck also observed greater efficiency and quieter fan behavior from its Intel sample. These are review findings about the compared machines, not a general rule for all Intel and AMD laptops.

Which model is the better fit for your work?

Choose the Intel model if Thunderbolt 4 is important

ASUS lists two Thunderbolt 4 ports for the US P5605CAA configuration. Notebookcheck identifies Thunderbolt 4 as an Intel-side advantage for docking and eGPU connectivity. If your desk setup depends on Thunderbolt, verify the ports on the exact local SKU rather than assuming every P5 G2 has them.

Consider the AMD model for sustained multi-thread workloads

The AMD comparison system’s 3,272-point Cinebench R15 multi-loop average exceeded the Intel unit’s 2,163-point average in Notebookcheck’s 2026 test. That makes the AMD machine the stronger of these two samples in that benchmark. If you regularly run CPU-heavy, multi-threaded tasks, compare current results for the specific processor configurations and the applications you use; do not treat one benchmark as a complete measure of performance.

Weigh measured browsing runtime against the battery size

The Intel review unit’s 15-hour-34-minute Wi-Fi browsing result came from Notebookcheck’s test, while its battery is 63 Wh. The AMD comparator has a 70 Wh battery, but the cited comparison does not state an equivalent AMD runtime result. If battery life is a deciding factor, look for results measured under the same workload and conditions; battery capacity alone does not settle the comparison.

Check memory and display details on the actual SKU

The tested Intel unit has 32 GB installed in one memory channel, and its second SO-DIMM slot can be populated. The US specifications list two DDR5 SO-DIMM slots and a 64 GB maximum. Display details also deserve a SKU-level check: the US page lists a 2560 × 1600 panel, while the Notebookcheck test unit had a 144 Hz panel. Do not assume that a family name guarantees the same memory configuration or refresh rate in every market.

What are the Intel review unit’s practical strengths and drawbacks?

Notebookcheck lists upgradeable RAM, relatively cool core temperatures under load, and a compact 65 W USB-C adapter among the Intel sample’s strengths. Its drawbacks include no touchscreen option, no SD card reader, hinges the reviewer considered too loose, and no USB-C charging port on the right edge. These observations apply to the reviewed configuration and assessment; whether they matter depends on your workspace and peripherals.

What should you verify before buying?

  1. Match the full model number. Confirm whether the listing is for P5605CAA-XS76 or another P5605CAA configuration, and compare its processor, installed memory, storage, display, and battery with the specification page for your region.
  2. Compare like with like on price. Notebookcheck showed the reviewed XS76 configuration at $2,600 as configured on its page in September 2026. That is a dated page observation, not a verified current price or offer. Check current local listings for the exact SKU.
  3. Prioritize the workload and connections you actually use. For sustained multi-thread work, consider the AMD system’s higher score in the cited Cinebench loop. For Thunderbolt 4 docking or eGPU connectivity, confirm whether the specific Intel configuration meets your needs.
  4. Check the physical details that affect your setup. Decide whether you need a touchscreen, SD card reader, firmer-feeling hinges, or USB-C charging on a particular side, and inspect the exact configuration where possible.

Notebookcheck names Lenovo ThinkBook, LG Gram 16, and MSI Summit models among competitors. These are comparison candidates, not direct substitutes with identical configurations; assess their processors, displays, warranty, ports, weight, and local prices against the ExpertBook you are considering.
