To enable Fast Boot on an ASRock motherboard, open UEFI setup, go to Boot, choose a Fast Boot mode available for your board, then save and exit. Before selecting Ultra Fast, check whether you need legacy boot through CSM, boot from USB storage, or easy access to setup: Ultra Fast can disable CSM, restrict USB boot, and make the usual setup key harder to use.

Before changing Fast Boot

Fast Boot is intended to speed up startup, but ASRock does not publish a general number of seconds or percentage for the improvement in the reviewed manuals. The available modes and their behavior depend on the motherboard model and firmware. Some manuals list Disabled, Fast, and Ultra Fast; the Intel Z790/H770/B760 guide lists Disabled and Ultra Fast. Check the current manual or support page for your exact board, since ASRock notes that UEFI software changes over time and screens may differ from manual illustrations.

  • You rely on CSM or legacy boot: Ultra Fast requires full UEFI mode on the ASRock configurations described in its FAQ, so it disables and hides CSM.
  • You boot from USB storage: Fast Boot may prevent USB storage booting. Check the documented behavior for your specific board and mode before enabling it.
  • You use a discrete graphics card and want Ultra Fast: ASRock’s Intel B760 guide requires the card’s VBIOS to support UEFI GOP, along with a UEFI-aware operating system.
  • You may need to enter setup again: Learn the board’s recovery method first. Ultra Fast can make the normal startup-key route difficult.

How to enable Fast Boot

  1. Identify your motherboard model. Use the model name printed on the board or shown in your system information, then find its current ASRock manual or support page. Confirm which Fast Boot modes it offers and any mode-specific restrictions.
  2. Enter UEFI setup. Restart or power on the computer and press F2 or Delete during startup. The X370M manual documents these keys; timing and supported entry methods can vary by board.
  3. Open the Boot tab. Find Fast Boot and select a mode listed by your board. Do not assume that a mode available on another ASRock model will appear on yours.
  4. Save and exit. Use the setup utility’s save-and-exit command to apply the change and restart. Follow the on-screen wording in your firmware if it differs from the manual.

What the Fast Boot modes mean for your setup

The labels are not a guarantee of identical behavior across ASRock generations. Use the mode descriptions in your own manual, and weigh the relevant constraints before choosing:

Choice or condition What to consider
Disabled Fast Boot is off. ASRock’s related C.A.M. instructions recommend this when CSM cannot be found in that particular workflow; it is not a universal prerequisite for using Fast Boot.
Fast Some ASRock manuals list this mode, but available choices and restrictions vary by board. Consult the exact model’s manual.
Ultra Fast In ASRock’s FAQ, this mode operates only in full UEFI mode and automatically disables and hides CSM. The Intel B760 guide also requires a UEFI-aware operating system and UEFI GOP support for an external graphics card.
USB storage boot ASRock’s Intel B760 guide warns that Fast Boot prevents booting from USB storage; the X370M and J3455M manuals also document a USB storage boot limitation. Confirm the mode-specific behavior on your board if you use installation or recovery media.

Why CSM may disappear

If you selected Ultra Fast and can no longer find CSM under Boot, that can be expected rather than a missing firmware control. ASRock’s FAQ 522, dated October 13, 2022, explains that Ultra Fast disables and hides CSM because the mode is supported only when booting in full UEFI mode. If your operating system, device, or boot workflow depends on legacy support, consult your board manual before changing modes; the cited guidance does not establish compatibility for every legacy configuration.

  • Comprehensive AMD AM4 Platform: Supports a wide range of AMD Socket AM4 processors, including Ryzen 5000, 4000, and 3000 Series CPUs and APUs for flexible, budget-friendly builds. Please check ASRock's CPU support list for detailed compatibility.
  • Legacy Display Support: Offers maximum monitor compatibility with three video outputs: HDMI (4K 60Hz), DVI-D, and D-Sub (VGA), perfect for office or home systems.
  • High-Speed Memory Support: Two DDR4 DIMM slots support dual-channel configurations and overclocked speeds up to 4733+ (OC) for responsive performance.
  • PCIe 4.0 Ready: The primary PCIe x16 slot supports PCIe 4.0 speeds (with compatible 3rd Gen Ryzen CPUs and above) for modern graphics cards.
  • Versatile Storage Options: Features one Hyper M.2 slot (PCIe Gen4x4 and SATA3) for a fast NVMe or SATA SSD, plus four SATA3 ports for additional drives.

For the separate C.A.M. configuration workflow, ASRock advises setting Fast Boot to Disabled if the CSM menu is unavailable. Treat that as specific troubleshooting guidance for that workflow, not a general requirement for all systems.

How to get back into UEFI setup

Ultra Fast may make setup difficult to enter using the usual F2 or Delete key during startup. ASRock’s Intel B760 guide identifies clearing CMOS or using the Restart to UEFI utility in Windows as ways to enter setup; the J3455M manual gives a similar warning. These routes are board-specific, so confirm the supported recovery method in your own manual before enabling Ultra Fast. Clearing CMOS resets firmware settings, so consult the board documentation for the correct procedure and consequences.
