ASML lifted its 2026 sales outlook for the second time in three months, setting a €43 billion–€45 billion total-net-sales range in its July 15, 2026 second-quarter update. The increase reflects stronger-than-expected Installed Base Management sales and a brighter demand outlook as AI investment drives orders for advanced logic and memory chips.
ASML does not make AI processors. It makes the lithography systems chip manufacturers use to pattern circuits on wafers. The company’s figures therefore provide an indirect read on whether AI-related semiconductor spending is translating into factory capacity and equipment demand.
How ASML’s 2026 guidance changed
The latest range is substantially above both earlier forecasts. The midpoint rose from €36.5 billion after the 2025 results to €44 billion in July, an increase of €7.5 billion. Compared with the April forecast, the midpoint increased by €6 billion.

The July range implies 2026 sales growth of roughly 31.5% to 37.6% from ASML’s 2025 revenue of €32.7 billion, assuming the guidance is achieved. ASML also set a full-year gross-margin outlook of 54%–56%.

What AI demand has to do with ASML
ASML’s stated demand chain has several steps:
- AI investment increases. Cloud, data-center and other technology companies spend on new AI capabilities.
- Chip demand shifts toward advanced logic and memory. AI systems require leading-edge processors and high-performance memory, according to ASML’s explanation of its outlook.
- Chip manufacturers expand or upgrade fabs. To supply those components, customers commit to additional manufacturing capacity.
- Equipment orders rise. Lithography systems are required to print increasingly small and complex features, increasing demand across ASML’s product portfolio.
ASML President and CEO Christophe Fouquet described the connection directly: “Ongoing AI-related investments and continued progress in AI technologies are driving demand for advanced Logic and Memory chips, further strengthening the semiconductor industry’s growth outlook.” That statement describes an industry demand relationship, not a claim that ASML sells AI chips itself.

ASML also said order intake remained extremely strong in the first half of 2026. Increasing customer commitments across its portfolio improved visibility into demand beyond the current quarter, giving management more confidence in the raised range.
How ASML is responding with capacity
Low-NA EUV systems
ASML planned to add 30% to 2027 low-numerical-aperture extreme ultraviolet (low-NA EUV) capacity. The company cited a 2026 plan of about 65 systems; a 30% increase would be approximately 85 systems in 2027, subject to execution.

DUV immersion systems
For deep ultraviolet (DUV) immersion tools, ASML planned a similar 30% increase for 2027 from about 130 systems in 2026. That equates to approximately 169 systems if the planned increase is delivered.
Possible 2028 expansion
ASML was investigating another 30% increase for 2028. This is an investigation rather than a committed production target, so it should not be treated as firm supply.

Is the AI-driven equipment demand sustainable?
The available evidence supports strong near-term momentum, but it does not guarantee a permanent growth rate. The strongest positive signals are the unusually strong first-half order intake, higher customer commitments and ASML’s decision to plan material additions to EUV and DUV capacity. Those actions indicate that customers are communicating needs beyond a single quarter.
There are also limits to what the guidance proves. ASML’s forecast is a company outlook, not a promise that AI spending will rise at the same pace every year. Equipment deliveries can be affected by customer schedules, product mix and the timing of Installed Base Management revenue. The proposed 2028 capacity increase remains under review, so future demand has not yet been fully converted into firm manufacturing plans.

The most useful test of durability will be whether strong orders and customer commitments continue as 2026 progresses and whether planned 2027 capacity is converted into shipped systems without a reversal in advanced logic or memory investment. In other words, AI demand appears to be broadening ASML’s current growth cycle, while the length of that cycle still depends on customers’ ongoing capital plans.
What the upgrade means in context
ASML entered 2026 from a FY2025 base of €32.7 billion in sales, €9.6 billion in net income and a €38.8 billion backlog. The new outlook is therefore not a minor adjustment to a flat year: its €44 billion midpoint would be about 34.6% above 2025 sales if achieved. The backlog provides a substantial order base, but it is not identical to one year’s revenue and does not remove delivery or timing risk.
For readers tracking the semiconductor cycle, ASML’s update is significant because it links AI investment to spending on the manufacturing layer that enables advanced chips. The combination of higher guidance, strong first-half orders and planned equipment-capacity increases is a stronger demand signal than AI announcements alone, while the company’s own qualifications show why the signal should still be monitored rather than treated as a guarantee.
