The ASICS GEL-NIMBUS 26 is a highly cushioned neutral daily trainer aimed at easy runs and longer outings. It is a measured update to the GEL-NIMBUS 25, with ASICS highlighting a revised midfoot fit and outsole, while Fleet Feet describes a slightly firmer ride. Since the newer GEL-NIMBUS 27 is available, the 26 makes most sense when its fit and feel suit you and its verified price or availability is compelling.
What kind of running shoe is the GEL-NIMBUS 26?
ASICS announced the GEL-NIMBUS 26 on November 28, 2023, positioning it as a flagship cushioned shoe for long runs. It is a neutral daily trainer, rather than a shoe that the available sources establish as suitable for every runner, pace, foot shape, or gait. The intended appeal is a plush, protective-feeling ride for easy mileage and longer outings.
ASICS describes the 26 as using FF BLAST PLUS ECO foam and PureGEL in the heel. Those are manufacturer product descriptions, not independent proof of injury prevention or a particular comfort outcome. ASICS’ launch announcement also identifies an engineered knit upper and changes intended to improve midfoot fit.

What changed from the GEL-NIMBUS 25?
The 26 is a refinement, not a complete redesign. ASICS says it updated the upper and midfoot fit and introduced HYBRID ASICSGRIP, which it describes as combining ASICSGRIP and AHARPLUS outsole rubber. Fleet Feet characterizes the 26’s midfoot as more secure and its ride as slightly firmer than the 25. These are manufacturer and review-source descriptions; they do not guarantee the same feel for every runner.

How does the GEL-NIMBUS 26 compare with the 27?
The 27 is the successor, but its newer status alone does not make it a better choice for every runner. Fleet Feet describes the 27 as having updated, softer FF BLAST PLUS ECO foam and a lighter jacquard mesh upper. Its listed men’s stack and drop match the 26; the women’s stack is slightly higher in the 27. Listed weights are close, with the 27’s women’s figure slightly higher.

It may be worth choosing over the newer version when a real, verified price difference or remaining stock makes it attractive. The evidence does not establish that it is universally more comfortable or better than the 27.

Try the shoe on if you can, paying attention to:
- Heel hold while walking and jogging.
- Midfoot comfort: the updated fit should feel secure, not constricting.
- Toe room and whether the available width accommodates your foot.
- Whether you prefer the 26’s reported slightly firmer ride to the 27’s reported softer foam.
Is the GEL-NIMBUS 26 still worth buying?
The 26 is an older model relative to the 27, so its current stock, sizes, colors, and price can vary. The available sources do not establish a current price or confirm availability for the 26. A Tom’s Guide shopping article dated October 2, 2026 discusses the 27 and reports a sale price for that model, but it does not establish what the 26 currently costs or whether it is in stock: Tom’s Guide’s GEL-NIMBUS 27 deal coverage.
Before buying online, confirm that the listing is specifically for the GEL-NIMBUS 26, then check size, width, color, seller, and stock. Do not assume an old list price or a listing for another version reflects today’s offer. Verdict
The GEL-NIMBUS 26 is a strong candidate for runners seeking a plush daily trainer for easy and long runs, particularly if its adjusted midfoot fit and slightly firmer ride suit them. Its changes over the 25 are modest, and the 27 brings a softer-foam update and revised upper. Choose based on a try-on and the actual price and availability of the exact model, rather than assuming the latest version—or the older one—is automatically the better buy.
