The Art & Science Gold Plus is listed by CHOICE as a firm, queen-sized pocket-spring mattress. CHOICE’s product page gives its dimensions and construction details, while a separate August 2024 test table reports environmental scores—not a comfort rating for this model. Because firmness is personal and the listed price and trial terms may have changed, check the retailer’s current conditions and try the mattress if possible before buying.

What CHOICE’s test results do—and do not—tell you
CHOICE’s August 2024 mattress test table gives the Gold Plus an environmental impact score of 57%, comprising a carbon footprint score of 50%, a recyclability score of 48%, and a build quality score of 88%. Those are environmental-impact figures, not a comfort score or the CHOICE Expert Rating. CHOICE says its environmental impact measure weights carbon footprint at 40%, recyclability at 40%, and build quality at 20%; it does not contribute to the Expert Rating. Its wear-and-damage method uses 30,000 cycles of a cask-shaped roller, intended to simulate around eight years of use. These method descriptions explain CHOICE’s broader testing; the available Gold Plus figures do not establish its comfort or durability sub-scores. CHOICE also cautions that “expensive mattresses definitely don’t always perform better than cheaper models.”

Is the Gold Plus’s firm feel right for you?
“Firm” is a product claim, not a guarantee that the mattress will feel supportive or comfortable to every sleeper. Your impression can depend on your body and sleeping position, and a mattress that feels acceptable in a quick shop visit may feel different over a full night. CHOICE recognizes comfort as subjective and recommends trying a mattress in store or using a trial period where one is available. Confirm the current trial’s length, eligibility, and return or exchange conditions with the seller before relying on it.
ProductReview’s Q&A shows the kinds of practical questions buyers ask: “Is it normal for the art and science mattress to make spring noises and popping sounds?” Other visible questions ask about back-pain relief and whether an initially very hard feel may ease after two nights. These are shopper questions, not verified answers or evidence that the mattress provides a clinical benefit. One customer review says the Gold Plus felt firmer than the in-store mattress they had tried; that is one person’s account, not a general performance finding.
