For a normal Arma Reforger dedicated server, start ArmaReforgerServer.exe with -config pointing to a JSON server-configuration file. Use -server instead when you want to launch a local world directly; in that mode, the JSON configuration is ignored. Network overrides such as -bindPort, the recommended -maxFPS 60 cap, and mod options are added to the same command line when needed.
How Arma Reforger startup parameters work
Startup parameters are options placed after the server executable name. Parameter names are case-insensitive, but values and file paths must still be valid for the operating system and server. Put any value containing spaces inside quotation marks, for example -config ".ConfigsCampaign_SWCoast.json".

Do not confuse the two launch modes: -config selects settings, while -server starts a local server and world and causes the JSON configuration to be ignored.
Choose the correct launch mode

Dedicated-server launch with JSON
The official hosting workflow points the executable at a JSON file. A minimal example is:

Local world launch
For a local test, specify a world directly:
ArmaReforgerServer.exe -server "worlds/MP/MPTest.ent"Because -server ignores JSON configuration, settings that exist only in your config file will not be applied to this launch. Add any required local-content options explicitly.

Network binding, ports and Steam queries
For public hosting, the server configuration reference identifies these default ports:
- 2001/UDP: game traffic.
- 17777: Steam A2S query traffic.
- 19999: RCON.
The JSON bind address is generally left empty, which uses 0.0.0.0 and allows the server to listen on available IPv4 interfaces. The same reference states that IPv6 is not supported. The JSON bindPort defaults to 2001 and should normally match publicPort; changing only one can leave the advertised and actual game ports inconsistent.
Override binding from the command line
Use -bindIP and -bindPort when the host has multiple interfaces, a nonstandard game port, or a deployment-specific address:

ArmaReforgerServer.exe -bindIP 192.168.1.42 -bindPort 2302These options override the configured bind and registration values for that launch. Forward the chosen UDP game port through the host firewall and router, and make sure the port shown to clients is the same one the process is actually using.
Configure A2S independently
A2S query binding is separate from the game bind. Set it explicitly when query traffic must use another interface or port:
ArmaReforgerServer.exe -a2sIpAddress 192.168.1.10 -a2sPort 7777Changing the A2S port does not change the game port. Treat game traffic and query traffic as separate firewall and forwarding rules.
Using -maxFPS safely
A dedicated server can spend host CPU time producing more simulation frames than clients or the scenario require. The hosting guidance recommends an explicit cap and shows 60 as the example:
ArmaReforgerServer.exe -config ".ConfigsCampaign_SWCoast.json" -maxFPS 60The number is a cap, not a promise that the server will sustain that rate. Actual performance still depends on the scenario, player count, mods and available resources. If you omit the option, you lose the documented safeguard against wasting CPU on an uncapped server.
Loading mods from startup parameters
Local addons with -addonsDir and -addons
Use -addonsDir to add a directory searched for local mods, then use -addons to select the content to load. IDs are comma-separated with no requirement for a single mod per option:

ArmaReforgerServer.exe -server "worlds/MP/MPTest.ent" -addonsDir "C:MyModsDir" -addons MyCustomModThe documented search path includes profile/addons, the executable’s addons directory and every directory supplied with -addonsDir. An addon can be identified by GUID, project ID or, as a fallback, its subdirectory name. Check spelling and directory layout when a local mod is not found.
Workshop mods for a public server
For a public server launched from JSON, put Workshop entries in the game.mods list. Each entry can contain a mod ID, an optional version and a required flag. This tells clients which Workshop content to download and activate, whereas command-line -addons is primarily useful for selecting local content in a direct launch.

Scenario discovery, restart and diagnostics
Find installed scenarios
When you do not know the exact scenario path, start with:
ArmaReforgerServer.exe -listScenariosThe server logs available scenario .conf paths during startup. Use those paths to correct a world or scenario reference instead of guessing a filename.
Reload or shut down between sessions
-autoreload <seconds> reloads the scenario after a session ends. In version 1.3.0, disabled is documented for restart behavior. -autoshutdown invokes the documented shutdown process and is commonly paired with autoreload when a host supervisor or scheduled process should take over after the server exits.

Choose the restart behavior deliberately: an automatic reload is useful for a persistent service, while a disabled setting is preferable when an operator needs the process to stop for inspection or maintenance.
Capture operational information
Add -logStats for optional statistics logging and -logLevel to control log verbosity. These switches are useful when diagnosing startup, performance or mod-loading issues without changing the scenario itself.
Verify and repair addons
-addonsVerify checks addon integrity and then shuts down if corruption is detected. -addonsRepair goes further by attempting repair; it also shuts down if repair fails. Run these as maintenance launches rather than assuming a failed verification will leave the server running normally.

JSON configuration details that commonly cause failures
JSON keys in the server configuration are case-sensitive. Values are strings unless the configuration reference documents another type, so preserve the expected spelling and representation rather than changing key capitalization or converting values casually.
- Keep
fastValidationset totruefor public hosting, as recommended by the configuration reference. - Set
bindPortconsistently withpublicPort; the normal game-port default is 2001. - Leave the bind address empty when you want the usual
0.0.0.0behavior, unless the host requires a specific interface. - Open and forward the UDP game port separately from the A2S and RCON ports.
- Validate commas, quotation marks and braces after editing the JSON; a malformed file prevents the intended configuration from loading.
Command-line precedence
When a parameter explicitly overrides a configured value, use the command-line value for that launch. This is why -bindPort, -bindIP, -a2sPort and -maxFPS are useful for host-specific differences while keeping a reusable JSON file.
Practical launch recipes
Public dedicated server with a frame cap
ArmaReforgerServer.exe -config ".ConfigsCampaign_SWCoast.json" -maxFPS 60Use this when the JSON file contains the public server settings and you want the documented 60 FPS cap.

Local test world with custom addons
ArmaReforgerServer.exe -server "worlds/MP/MPTest.ent" -addonsDir "C:MyModsDir" -addons MyCustomModThis starts the selected world directly and searches the additional local-mod directory. It does not read a JSON server configuration.

Separate A2S query endpoint
ArmaReforgerServer.exe -a2sIpAddress 192.168.1.10 -a2sPort 7777This changes Steam query binding only; it does not select the game world’s port.
Troubleshooting by symptom
The server starts with the wrong settings
Check whether the command contains -server. That mode ignores JSON, so remove it for a config-driven dedicated launch. Then verify the path supplied to -config and confirm that JSON keys use the required case.
Players cannot connect
Confirm the effective game port, normally UDP 2001 unless overridden, and compare it with bindPort and publicPort. Check host firewall and router forwarding. If the server is bound to a private interface with -bindIP, ensure that address is the intended reachable interface.

Check the A2S address and port separately from game networking. The defaults are 17777 for A2S and 2001/UDP for game traffic; an explicit -a2sIpAddress or -a2sPort changes only the query endpoint.
A mod is missing or clients cannot activate it
For local content, verify the search directories and the ID supplied to -addons. For public Workshop content, add the mod to game.mods in JSON and include its version and required status when needed. A local folder alone does not publish a mod to remote clients.
A scenario path is rejected
Run -listScenarios and use one of the logged .conf paths. This is more reliable than inferring a path from a mod or world directory name.
The process exits during addon maintenance
This is expected when -addonsVerify finds corruption or when -addonsRepair cannot repair it. Read the log, correct or replace the affected addon, and start the normal server command again without the maintenance switch.
