To spawn a tamed dinosaur in ARK: Survival Ascended, authenticate as an administrator and run GMSummon with the creature’s blueprint name and level. For example, the commonly documented pattern is GMSummon "Rex_Character_BP_C" 150. Use Summon instead when you want a wild creature. Community command guides agree on these basics, but the syntax is not officially confirmed for every ASA patch, so test commands in single-player or on a private server before using them on a live world.

Enter creature names exactly as required by the command. The capitalization shown in examples is conventional; the blueprint itself is the part that must identify the intended species.

Administrator authentication on multiplayer
On a multiplayer server, open the console and enter EnableCheats <admin password> before running a spawn command. Replace the bracketed text with the server’s actual administrator password. Authentication may not persist after you disconnect, according to community administration guides, so enter the password again after reconnecting if commands stop working.
Console access by platform
On PC, community references commonly identify the Tab key as the console shortcut. Xbox and PlayStation 5 use controller button combinations, but the exact combinations were not consistently verified in the available references and can change with interface updates. If the console does not appear, check the current in-game control settings for your platform and edition rather than assuming a PC shortcut applies.

A safe test environment
Commands can create unexpected creatures, consume server time, or behave differently after a patch. Test on a single-player save, a copy of your server, or a private session first. Keep a backup of the world before experimenting with unfamiliar syntax, especially commands copied from older ARK versions.
How to spawn a tamed dinosaur with GMSummon
- Join the world or server where you have administrative permission.
- Open the console using the shortcut available on your platform.
- On multiplayer, authenticate with
EnableCheats <admin password>. Skip this step only when your current session already has the required authority, such as a properly configured single-player game. - Enter
GMSummon "<Blueprint>" <level>, replacing<Blueprint>with the creature blueprint and<level>with the desired number. - Submit the command and look around the area where you are standing. A successful command should create a tamed creature associated with your player.
- Verify the species, ownership, and level before moving it into a base or saving the world.
A commonly circulated Rex example is GMSummon "Rex_Character_BP_C" 150. The example demonstrates the required quotation marks, blueprint spelling, and numeric level; it is not a guarantee that every creature uses an obvious or identical blueprint pattern.

Why the blueprint is in quotes
Put the complete blueprint name inside quotation marks. One community guide warns that leaving the name unquoted can cause the game to interpret the entry as a different summon form, effectively producing behavior associated with Summon rather than the intended tamed spawn. Quoting also makes the boundary between the creature name and the level unambiguous.

Choosing the level argument
The final number in the GMSummon pattern is the level you request. Use numerals only, without a comma or additional text. If a command is rejected, first check that the level is present and separated from the closing quotation mark by a space.
The unconfirmed taming-bonus claim
One guide claims that ASA applies a taming bonus on top of the typed level, giving an example in which entering roughly 100 results in a level-150 tame. This behavior has not been independently confirmed and should not be used for balancing, breeding plans, or admin events. Record the level you typed and inspect the spawned creature in your own version before relying on any bonus.
How to spawn a wild dinosaur
Use the Summon pattern when you want a wild creature rather than an immediately owned tame: Summon "<Blueprint>". Community references describe this as spawning at the player’s location. Because this form does not include the GMSummon level argument, it is not interchangeable with the tamed command.

A wild spawn is useful when you want normal taming, imprinting, or a survival-style encounter. After it appears, you can use the normal game mechanics or an appropriate taming command if your event rules allow it. Confirm that the creature is conscious and within your crosshair before attempting a targeted taming command.
Using SDF when you have a short creature ID
The alternative pattern SDF <dinoID> <level> selects a creature by a shorter identifier instead of a full blueprint path. One guide presents SDF as easier than entering long blueprint names. The trade-off is that you must know the correct short ID for the species, and community lists do not always agree across game versions or creature variants.
Use SDF only after checking the ID in the exact ASA version and mod set running on your server. If the wrong animal appears or nothing spawns, return to the verified blueprint form rather than guessing at punctuation or adding parameters from an older command list.

Taming a creature that is already present
ForceTame
ForceTame acts on the creature in your crosshair. Aim directly at the animal, ensure you have selected the intended target, and then submit the command. This is a targeted operation: looking at the wrong creature can tame the wrong animal.

DoTame is described in community command lists as taming an eligible conscious creature in front of the player. It is not a substitute for a spawn command because it operates on an existing animal and depends on that creature meeting the game’s eligibility conditions.
Why older spawndino instructions are risky in ASA
Older ARK references often show a five-argument form such as CheatSpawnDino <Blueprint> <Spawn Distance> <Y Offset> <Z Offset> <Level>. That syntax appears to come from an earlier game version and has not been confirmed as working in ARK: Survival Ascended. Do not treat it as a reliable ASA command merely because it appears in a search result.

If a page tells you to use “spawndino” and the command fails, replace the experiment with the documented GMSummon or Summon pattern, then test it in a non-production world. Do not add the old distance, offset, or level arguments to GMSummon; they belong to a different command format.
Troubleshooting failed spawn commands
The console does not open
- Confirm that you are using the shortcut for your platform, not the PC Tab key on a console controller.
- Check the game’s current control settings and any server policy that disables administrative input.
- Reconnect and try again if the interface became unresponsive after a map or session change.
The game says you are not authorized
- On multiplayer, run
EnableCheats <admin password>again in the current session. - Check the password character-for-character, including capitalization and spaces.
- Verify that the account has administrator rights on that particular server; being the local host of another session does not automatically grant rights everywhere.
The command runs but the wrong result appears
- Check that the blueprint is inside quotation marks and that the level is outside the closing quote.
- Confirm that you used GMSummon for a tamed result and Summon for a wild result.
- Inspect the result before repeating the command, so multiple unintended creatures do not accumulate.
Nothing appears
- Retest with a blueprint known to work in your current ASA build, such as the Rex example.
- Remove copied punctuation, smart quotes, extra arguments, and old “spawndino” parameters.
- Try the command in a private or single-player session to separate syntax problems from server permissions or configuration.
- Check whether a recent patch changed the command set; community lists can lag behind updates.
Commands that should not be treated as part of the spawn procedure
Community administrator lists also mention commands such as BanPlayer, UnbanPlayer, ListPlayers, ServerChat <message>, SaveWorld, cheat god, cheat ghost, and GFI for items. Those entries address moderation, world saving, movement, or inventory rather than dinosaur spawning, and their availability was not independently verified here. Keep them separate from the spawn workflow and test any administrative command before using it on a live server.
Recommended admin workflow
- Write down the game version, map, mods, and platform before testing.
- Back up the save or use a disposable test world.
- Authenticate once after joining the session.
- Test one known GMSummon command and record the creature’s actual level and ownership.
- Test a wild Summon separately if your event requires wild animals.
- Only then use the syntax for additional species or player-facing events.
- After testing, save the world and review the creature count so accidental duplicates are caught early.
No official Studio Wildcard command reference was available for confirmation of every syntax detail described by community guides. Treat GMSummon, Summon, SDF, ForceTame, and DoTame as practical commands to verify against your own ASA installation, not as immutable guarantees across all patches.
