If an ARK server is missing from the cluster list or browser, first let it finish starting, then stop it, apply the current game-server update, and restart it. Next verify a unique SessionName, confirm UDP 7777 and UDP 27015 are reachable from the internet, and check whether your platform uses Steam discovery or Epic Online Services (EOS). If listing still fails, connect by IP as a workaround. Cluster transfers cannot work reliably until the destination server is publicly visible.
What “missing” means in ARK
Several different failures are described as an ARK server “not showing.” Identify which one you have before changing settings:

- Cluster list missing: one map in a cluster is visible, but another map is absent when you search or select a transfer destination.
- Friends cannot find it: you can see the server locally or on the host panel, but players outside your network cannot.
- Obelisk transfer missing: the server appears in a browser, yet it is not offered as a download or upload destination at an obelisk.
These symptoms overlap because ARK relies on an advertisement and discovery path before a player can transfer between servers. A process that is still booting, an outdated build, a malformed session name, blocked ports, carrier-grade NAT, or a platform-specific discovery problem can all leave the listing empty.
Use this repair order
Work through the checks in order. Do not change several unrelated settings at once; otherwise you will not know which change restored visibility.

- Wait for the server to complete startup and map loading.
- Stop it, apply the current ARK server update, and start it again.
- Set a unique, non-empty
SessionNameinGameUserSettings.ini. - Verify the listening and forwarding rules for UDP 7777 and UDP 27015.
- Check the public address, NAT type, firewall, and operating-system network profile.
- Use an IP-based direct connection while browser discovery is being repaired.
- For an obelisk-transfer problem, use the player-side recovery procedure at the end of this guide.
A 2026 hosting guide reports that startup can take five to 10 minutes and that the game was receiving one to three updates per day at the time of writing. Those are provider observations, not guarantees: large maps, mods, slow storage, and a pending update can make the first boot longer.
1. Confirm that startup and updates are complete
Read the server console, not only the control panel
A control panel may show “running” while the ARK process is still loading a map, compiling mods, or applying a patch. Watch the live console until CPU and disk activity settle and the process reports that the world is ready. If you search during this interval, the server may not have published its advertisement yet.
Allow at least the full startup interval reported by your host before troubleshooting network settings. If the process repeatedly exits, hangs at the same line, or never reaches a ready state, solve that startup failure first; a server that is not fully running cannot remain in a browser.
Stop, update, and restart
When ARK clients receive a new build, an older dedicated server can disappear or become unreachable until it is updated. Use the host’s update function or the Steam command-line tools for the edition you run, then perform a clean restart:
- Stop the ARK server and wait for the process to close.
- Run the server-update operation supplied by your host or installation method.
- Confirm that the update completed without a disk-space, permission, or download error.
- Start the server and wait for the map to finish loading before searching again.
Do not assume that an apparently unchanged version number means the server is current; check the update log or the host’s build indicator. If only some players cannot see the server after an update, have one player restart the game client and repeat the search with filters cleared.
Rule out a transient listing failure
Community guidance describes a bug in which some servers are not shown to every user. No bug identifier or Studio Wildcard patch confirmation was available for that report, so treat it as an intermittent possibility rather than a diagnosis. A complete stop/update/start cycle and a fresh client search are the safest first response.

2. Give the server a unique session name
Why the name matters
SessionName is the advertised name used by the ARK Game Server Browser and, for ARK: Survival Evolved (ASE), the Steam server browser. A blank, truncated, or duplicate name can make search results ambiguous and is a plausible reason for a server to be overlooked. It is not documented as a confirmed root cause, so make this change only after startup and update checks.
Change GameUserSettings.ini
Stop the server before editing its configuration. Open the active GameUserSettings.ini, locate the [SessionSettings] section, and set a distinctive value:

SessionName=Northwind Cluster - Fjordur - EUUse ordinary letters, numbers, spaces, and simple punctuation while testing. Avoid copying a name used by another map in your cluster. Save the file, start the server, and search for the exact new name with the client’s map, password, mod, and region filters removed.
Some hosts generate configuration files from a web form. In that case, edit the session-name field in the panel, save the change, and verify in the generated file that the value appears under [SessionSettings]. If the panel overwrites manual edits at every restart, the panel value is the one that must be corrected.
3. Check ports, forwarding, and public reachability
Port roles

The game and query ports must be forwarded to the same server host unless your provider explicitly documents a different arrangement. If you run more than one map on one machine, assign each instance non-conflicting ports and forward each pair separately. A second server that silently binds to an already-used port will not advertise correctly.
Inspect the host firewall
On Windows, create inbound firewall rules for UDP 7777 and UDP 27015, scoped to the ARK server executable or service where practical. On Linux, allow the same UDP ports in the active firewall (for example, the rules managed by your distribution’s firewall tool). After changing rules, restart the server and test from a network that is not the hosting LAN.

Do not test only with the server’s private address, such as 192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x, or 172.16.x.x–172.31.x.x. Those addresses are not reachable by friends on the public internet. A community reply about ASE cluster transfers specifically notes that a server left on a private LAN address will not be visible to outside players.
Check for carrier-grade NAT and double NAT
Port forwarding works only when inbound traffic can reach your router. If your internet provider uses carrier-grade NAT, your router may show a private address on its WAN interface and have no way to accept unsolicited traffic. Some 2026 ASA guidance says this setup can block the peer-to-peer punch-through used for discovery outright.

- Compare the router’s WAN address with the public address shown by an independent “what is my IP” service.
- If they differ, ask the provider whether you are behind carrier-grade NAT and whether a public IPv4 address is available.
- Check for two routers in series. Put the inner router in bridge/access-point mode or forward the ports through both devices.
- Verify that the host has a stable private address; a DHCP change can leave forwarding rules pointing at the wrong machine.
When a public address cannot be obtained, move the dedicated server to a host that supplies inbound connectivity or use a supported relay solution. Do not expose administrative ports broadly just to compensate for blocked NAT.
4. Account for the edition and discovery service
ARK: Survival Evolved (ASE)
ASE uses Steam’s server browser for discovery. UDP 27015 is therefore important for query results, while UDP 7777 carries the game connection. A missing query response can hide a server even when the game process is running.
ARK: Survival Ascended (ASA)
ASA discovery uses Epic Online Services (EOS), according to community hosting guidance, rather than relying solely on Steam’s browser. ASA still needs the game port (UDP 7777) and working peer-to-peer punch-through. A Steam-only query test can therefore give a misleading result: an open 27015 does not prove that EOS discovery is healthy, and a closed 27015 may not explain every ASA listing failure.
Search with the correct game edition, map, cross-play setting, and unofficial/official filter. A server configured for one edition cannot be found by the other edition’s browser.

Windows Server and Epic visibility
An official ARK community forum thread reports a visibility problem for Epic/EGS players on Windows Server 2016, 2019, and 2022, but the thread body and mechanism were not verified. If Steam players can see the server while Epic players cannot, record the Windows Server version, ASA build, EOS-related log messages, and the exact filters used. This is a compatibility lead to investigate with current platform support, not a proven universal fix.
5. Try the low-confidence Culture=en check
An April 2026 ASA guide claims that a missing Culture=en entry is its most common cause of missing servers. Studio Wildcard has not documented this mechanism, and no second source confirmed it. Use it only after the higher-confidence checks above, and keep a backup of the file so you can revert cleanly.
Stop the server and open the ASA Windows Server configuration directory:
ShooterGame/Saved/Config/WindowsServerIn GameUserSettings.ini, add or correct the section below:

Culture=enSave, start the server, wait for a complete map load, and search again. If the host regenerates the file, make the change through its configuration editor or add it to the startup template. If it has no effect, remove the entry and continue troubleshooting; do not treat the change as an official fix.

ASE and Steam server favourites
A 2026 community guide suggests adding the server’s public IP address and query port to Steam’s server favourites. Use the public address, not the server’s private LAN address, and specify the query port as 27015. Steam uses that query port to find the entry; the actual game session then connects through UDP 7777.

- Open the Steam server-browser or favourites interface.
- Add
public-address:27015using your server’s public address. - Refresh the favourites list and confirm that the session name and map match your server.
- Launch ARK from the returned entry and test with one player outside the hosting network.
This procedure is primarily documented for ASE. ASA’s EOS discovery path can behave differently, so a successful Steam favourite does not prove that ASA’s browser is configured correctly.
What direct connection can and cannot prove
If direct connection works, the game port and basic reachability are probably functional, and the remaining fault is likely discovery, filtering, or advertisement. If it fails, recheck UDP 7777, the public address, NAT, and firewall rules; a direct-connect failure is not evidence that the session name is wrong.
7. Fix a cluster-transfer server missing from an obelisk
Why cluster visibility is required
Cluster transfers depend on the destination server being publicly visible. An obelisk cannot offer a map that the cluster service or other players cannot reach. Verify that every map has completed startup, uses the intended cluster identifier and transfer settings, advertises a unique name, and is reachable from the internet before changing survivor files or uploading items.
Older player-side recovery workaround
A 2023 community workaround may help when the destination is present in the cluster but absent from the obelisk menu. It is dated and has not been checked against every current ASA or ASE version, so use it only after confirming that your survivor data is backed up:
- Join another server in the same cluster.
- Travel to the transfer interface and exit to the server list without spawning into the destination.
- From the server list, load the affected server directly.
- When prompted, download the survivor that was uploaded from the other cluster map.
Do not upload a second copy of the survivor while experimenting. If the transfer disappears or duplicates items, stop and restore the cluster’s backups or ask the server operator to inspect the cluster and save files.
8. A focused diagnostic checklist

9. Capture evidence before escalating
If the ordered checks do not restore listing, collect details that let an operator or platform support team reproduce the problem:

- Edition (ASE or ASA), map, server build, and client build.
- Operating-system version and whether players use Steam, Epic, or cross-play.
- Exact
SessionName, cluster identifier, and the time of the failed search in UTC. - Startup console lines showing update completion and map readiness.
- Listening-port output from the server host and router forwarding rules, with public addresses and credentials redacted.
- Whether the tester was on the same LAN, a different ISP, or a mobile connection.
- Whether direct connection succeeded and which address and port were used.
There is no confirmed Studio Wildcard support article or patch note establishing a universal fix for this listing problem. The practical steps above come from community and hosting guidance, and the Culture=en suggestion is especially uncertain. Keeping that distinction prevents a speculative configuration tweak from replacing the fundamental startup, update, and reachability checks.
