To speed up breeding on an ARK: Survival Evolved server, edit Game.ini and use three settings under [/script/shootergame.shootergamemode]: lower MatingIntervalMultiplier to shorten the wait between mating attempts, and raise EggHatchSpeedMultiplier and BabyMatureSpeedMultiplier to accelerate incubation, gestation and growth.
A practical community starting point is MatingIntervalMultiplier=0.250000, EggHatchSpeedMultiplier=10.000000 and BabyMatureSpeedMultiplier=10.000000. Treat those numbers as an example rather than an official recommendation: the available documentation is community-written, some guides conflict, and very high values have no established universal maximum.

What each ARK breeding multiplier changes
These settings affect different stages of reproduction. The mating setting is inverse, while the hatch and maturation settings work in the normal direction. Confusing those directions is the most common cause of an apparently ineffective configuration.

MatingIntervalMultiplier does not make the mating progress bar fill faster. It changes the cooldown after a mating attempt. Hatch speed affects fertilized eggs and mammal pregnancies, whereas mature speed affects the juvenile period after the baby exists.

Where to put the settings
Place all three multipliers in the server’s Game.ini file beneath this exact header:
[/script/shootergame.shootergamemode]Do not put these lines in GameUserSettings.ini. A frequently repeated ARK wiki listing reportedly showed both files, but the forum explanations that address the configuration identify Game.ini as the correct location and GameUserSettings.ini as the wrong one for these values.
Step-by-step: change breeding speed safely
- Stop the server. Editing while the process is running can allow the server or control panel to overwrite your changes. Stop it first whenever your host provides a stop command.
- Back up the current configuration. Save a copy of
Game.inibefore changing anything. Keep the backup outside the panel’s editor if possible so you can restore the previous settings. - Open the ARK server’s Game.ini. Hosting panels usually expose it through a file manager or configuration editor; a self-hosted installation stores it in the server’s configuration directory.
- Find or add the game-mode header. Use
[/script/shootergame.shootergamemode]on its own line. If the header already exists, add the multipliers beneath it rather than creating a second copy. - Add the settings. For example:
[/script/shootergame.shootergamemode]

BabyMatureSpeedMultiplier=10.000000- Save the file while the server remains stopped. Check spelling, capitalization and the decimal values. A typo in a setting name will generally leave the default behavior unchanged.
- Start or restart the server. Community troubleshooting reports indicate that a restart is needed for changes to load. Allow the server to finish booting before testing.
- Test with a new breeding cycle. Use a pair that can mate and observe the cooldown, then test an egg or pregnancy and a newly born baby separately. Testing each stage avoids mistaking a correct hatch setting for a working mating setting.
Choosing values for your server
Conservative PvE starting point
For a small PvE group, one community guide uses 0.250000 for mating and 10.000000 for both hatch and maturation. The guide presents this as a reasonable starting point, not as an official balance target. It makes repeated mating available sooner and substantially compresses the egg and baby stages, but it also creates a demanding imprint schedule if babies mature quickly.

Use a staged approach instead of changing everything at once
If you do not know which stage is too slow, change one multiplier, restart, and test that stage. For example, reduce the mating interval first while leaving hatch and maturation at their defaults. Once mating behaves as expected, raise hatch speed and test an egg or pregnancy. Adjust maturation last, because it changes both the total raising time and the time available for imprint interactions.
Understand the direction before selecting a number
- For mating, move downward from
1. Values such as0.5and0.25represent progressively shorter cooldowns. - For hatch and maturation, move upward from
1. A value of2is faster than default; a value below1would slow the process. - Do not apply the mating rule to hatch or maturation, or vice versa. A guide that says a higher mating-interval value speeds mating is using the setting incorrectly or labeling a different multiplier.
How the speeds interact with imprinting
Raising BabyMatureSpeedMultiplier can allow a baby to reach adulthood before you complete all available imprint interactions. The result is a faster-grown creature with less than 100% imprint, even when the baby was cared for correctly. This is a timing problem, not a server failure.
Before selecting a high maturation value, map the expected growth window against your play schedule. If you cannot be online for care requests, lower maturation or accept that some babies will not reach full imprint. Changing hatch speed does not by itself shorten the post-hatch growth period; that is controlled by the maturation multiplier.

Existing creatures, eggs and pregnancies
Do not assume that changing the file recalculates every creature already in the world. Community reports say some changes do not affect existing dinos, and that rebreeding was needed before a player could observe the new behavior. Reports also indicate that mating-interval changes are not retroactive and apply to newly mated creatures rather than a cooldown already in progress. These reports are not an official guarantee, so test a fresh mating cycle after the restart.
A practical test plan is:
- Record the remaining cooldown on a creature that has already mated.
- After the restart, try a newly eligible pair and compare that result with the default timing you know from your server.
- Use a newly fertilized egg or a new pregnancy when checking hatch speed.
- Use a newly born or newly hatched baby when checking maturation speed.
If only old creatures appear unchanged, that is consistent with the reported non-retroactive behavior. If new cycles also appear unchanged, recheck the file path, header, spelling, server restart and whether the host regenerates the configuration from another template.
Server restart and file-overwrite problems
The setting is present but nothing changed
- Confirm the lines are in
Game.ini, notGameUserSettings.ini. - Confirm the header is exactly
[/script/shootergame.shootergamemode]. - Check that the server was fully restarted after saving.
- Test a new mating, egg, pregnancy or baby rather than an existing one.
- Verify the value direction: lower for mating interval, higher for hatch and maturation.
Your edits disappear after startup
Do not edit while the server is running. A running server or its management panel can rewrite Game.ini during shutdown or startup. Stop the server, save the file, confirm that the text remains, and only then start it again. Keep the backup so you can compare the file after every restart.

One multiplier works and another does not
Test the life stages independently. A working hatch setting does not prove that the mating interval line was read, and a working mating setting does not prove that maturation was changed. Check each key spelling and value under the same game-mode header.

No reliable maximum is established in the available community material. One forum user reported that 90 was over the limit, while another said 200 worked. Those conflicting reports are not a specification and may reflect different ARK versions, server builds or configurations. Treat extreme values as experimental, test them on a backup or private server, and increase them gradually rather than jumping directly to a very large number.
High hatch or maturation values can also make ordinary care mechanics impractical: a baby may mature between imprint opportunities, leaving no time to respond. High mating speed can increase the number of eggs, pregnancies and babies your tribe must feed and manage. Faster is therefore a workload choice as well as a time-saving choice.

Defaults and event settings
The default multiplier for each of these settings is generally represented as 1. A Dododex help reference lists official-server egg-hatch speed as 1 and notes that event weekends typically use 2. That is a useful reference point, not a promise that every event or server build uses the same schedule. Your server’s active configuration and event rates take precedence over a remembered value.
Recommended checklist before going live
- Decide whether you are configuring ARK: Survival Evolved; guidance written specifically for ARK: Survival Ascended may use different files or behavior.
- Back up
Game.ini. - Stop the server before editing.
- Use the exact game-mode header.
- Set mating lower than
1when you want a shorter cooldown. - Set hatch and maturation higher than
1when you want faster progress. - Restart after saving.
- Test new creatures and new reproduction cycles.
- Check imprint timing before adopting a high maturation value.
- Keep a rollback copy and change one stage at a time if troubleshooting is needed.
Bottom line
Use MatingIntervalMultiplier as an inverse control: lower numbers shorten the wait between matings. Use EggHatchSpeedMultiplier and BabyMatureSpeedMultiplier normally: higher numbers accelerate incubation, gestation and growth. Put all three under the game-mode header in Game.ini, restart with the file saved while the server is stopped, and validate the result with newly started breeding cycles. Adjust maturation with imprinting in mind, because the fastest setting is not useful if your tribe cannot complete baby care.
