Compare the same exact product at Argos and Currys, not merely two products in the same category. Match the manufacturer, model number, size, colour and specification, then compare stock, delivery or collection, installation, old-appliance removal and returns. The cheapest number on a product page is not necessarily the lowest total cost or the most convenient purchase.
If Currys is your preferred retailer, its published price promise may let you claim a match against an eligible, in-stock offer from another UK retailer before purchase or within seven days after purchase. Eligibility depends on the exact item and identical purchase terms, so check the current policy wording before relying on it.
What the Argos-versus-Currys comparison should include
Argos and Currys occupy different broad positions. A comparison published on 26 March 2026 describes Currys as a specialist electronics and appliance retailer, while Argos is a general-merchandise retailer that also sells electronics. That distinction can help you decide where to look first, but it does not prove that either retailer has the lower price, better stock or wider range for a particular product.

- Manufacturer and complete model number, including suffixes that identify a regional or retailer-specific version.
- Size, colour, capacity, storage, screen specification or other configuration that affects the product’s identity.
- What is included in the box, such as a stand, accessory, software licence or bundled consumable.
- Current stock status and whether the item can be delivered to your address or collected from a selected store.
- Item price plus every delivery, collection, installation and removal charge shown at checkout.
- Expected fulfilment date or collection window.
- Change-of-mind and faulty-goods remedies for the purchase channel you intend to use.
A product that looks identical in a search result can still be a different capacity, colour, generation or bundle. Treat the model number and full specification as the identity check.
Where to check each retailer’s price
Start with the live product pages
Search for the exact model on both retailers’ websites or apps. Open the full product page rather than relying on a search-result snippet, because the snippet may show an old price, a different configuration or a different fulfilment option. Note the time and your postcode when the retailer asks for them; delivery and collection choices can change after those details are entered.
Check the basket and checkout, not only the headline price
Add the item to the basket at each retailer and proceed far enough to reveal delivery, collection and service charges. You do not need to submit payment to compare the displayed total. If the price changes after selecting a store, delivery address or service, use the amount and terms for the option you would actually buy.
Use stores for availability, not as a substitute for a like-for-like check
A local store may have a product available for collection while a home-delivery listing has a different date or charge. Conversely, a product shown online may not be available at the store you prefer. Check the specific branch, postcode and fulfilment method before treating a listing as available.
Compare the total purchase cost
Use a worksheet such as the one below. Enter the live values from each retailer rather than assuming that a service is included.

For a television or laptop, installation and removal may be irrelevant; for a washing machine, cooker or refrigerator, they can materially change the practical cost. Do not add a service you do not need, but do not omit one that is necessary for your plan. The live checkout is the authority for the amount and timing on the day you order.
Confirm stock and fulfilment before comparing pounds
A lower price is useful only if the retailer can supply the same product on terms you can accept. Check both listings for:
- Actual stock: “In stock” should apply to the exact model and chosen fulfilment method, not merely to a related variant.
- Delivery readiness: Currys’ price-promise conditions refer to both retailers having stock and being ready to deliver. A competitor listing that cannot fulfil the item may not qualify.
- Collection location: confirm the selected Argos or Currys store, collection date and any time limit for collecting.
- Delivery date: record the date shown after entering your address, particularly for a replacement appliance or a time-sensitive gift.
- Service scope: verify whether installation includes positioning, connection, testing, packaging removal or only a narrower service. The available service and its price are item-specific.
Stock, delivery dates and service availability are volatile. Recheck them immediately before placing the order rather than relying on a saved screenshot from an earlier visit.
How Currys’ price promise works
Currys says it will match an eligible product at another UK retailer when the product is in stock, either before purchase or up to seven days after purchase. The comparison must be genuinely like for like: the same make, size, colour, specification and model number, with identical purchase terms. Both retailers must have stock and be ready to deliver.

The published conditions exclude some services and products, as well as certain exclusive, trade, membership, loyalty and marketplace offers. Prices that are obvious errors are also excluded. A lower figure visible on a third-party marketplace, a members-only page or an offer with different delivery terms should not be assumed to qualify.

A practical claim process
- Save the exact competitor product page, model number, specification, price, stock status and fulfilment terms.
- Check the Currys product page and the current price-promise terms for exclusions before ordering or making a claim.
- Compare the two offers line by line, including delivery, collection and any required service. Remove the comparison if an item or term differs.
- Submit the request through the route specified in the current Currys policy, either before buying or within the stated seven-day post-purchase window.
- Keep the order confirmation and the evidence used for the comparison until the request is decided.
The promise is an additional route when its conditions are met; it is not a guarantee that every lower advertised price will be accepted. Policy wording can change, so read the live terms for your product and date.
Returns and faults: separate change-of-mind from a defect
Return rights depend on the product, the reason for return and whether you bought online or in a store. A faulty-goods remedy is not the same as a voluntary change-of-mind return.
Argos
Argos’ help information says customers with collected orders can return items to an Argos store. For faulty goods, it describes statutory remedies that can include repair, replacement or refund, depending on the circumstances. Check the current Argos page for the terms attached to your order, product and purchase channel, and retain proof of purchase.
Currys
Currys publishes a separate changed-mind returns page covering categories including audio, cameras, computers, laptops, gaming products, smaller televisions and small household appliances. The precise conditions are category-specific, so check the current page for the item you are buying rather than assuming that one rule covers every product.
Questions to answer before ordering a bulky appliance
- Where must a change-of-mind return be taken or collected from?
- Is the item required to be unused, complete and in its original packaging?
- Who arranges and pays for collection of a large or installed appliance?
- What happens if the appliance is faulty on delivery or develops a fault later?
- Does using an installation or removal service affect the return process?
Write down the answer for the exact channel and product. A convenient collection point can outweigh a small item-price difference if returning a large appliance would otherwise require specialist transport.

Online and store purchases can have different terms
Currys’ terms state that store purchases can have different prices, charges, availability, delivery times and returns policies from online purchases. The same principle makes a channel-by-channel comparison essential at Argos too: compare an online delivery order with an online delivery order, or a specific store-collection option with the equivalent option at the other retailer.

Do not use an online price and a store-only service as though they formed one offer. They may be governed by different conditions.
Worked example: comparing a washing machine
Suppose you find the same washing-machine model at both retailers. The comparison should look like this before you decide:
- Copy the full model number, drum capacity, colour and energy or programme specification from the first listing.
- Confirm that the second listing has the identical model and capacity, not a visually similar model with a different suffix.
- Enter your postcode at both retailers and record home-delivery dates and charges.
- Check whether each retailer offers installation, connection testing and removal of the old machine, and record the separate price of each service.
- Read the change-of-mind and faulty-goods instructions for a large appliance, including how a collection would be arranged.
- Add the selected services to each basket and compare the resulting totals and dates.
- If Currys is preferred and the other retailer’s offer appears lower, test the offer against every price-promise condition before submitting a claim.
This method prevents a misleading result such as comparing an Argos collection price with a Currys delivered-and-installed price, or comparing a bare appliance with a bundle that includes removal.

Common comparison mistakes
- Matching names instead of model numbers: “55-inch television” or “9 kg washing machine” is a category, not an exact product.
- Ignoring suffixes and colours: a final character can identify a different specification or bundle.
- Comparing a marketplace offer with a retailer offer: the seller, fulfilment and terms may differ, and marketplace prices may be excluded from Currys’ promise.
- Using a promotional or membership price: an exclusive, loyalty or trade price may not be an eligible public comparison.
- Forgetting delivery and service charges: a lower displayed item price can become the higher delivered total.
- Assuming “in stock” means deliverable to you: confirm the postcode, branch and date.
- Mixing online and store terms: channel-specific prices and returns can differ.
- Confusing a fault with a change of mind: statutory faulty-goods remedies and voluntary returns follow different rules.
- Relying on an old screenshot: prices, stock and delivery promises can change before checkout.
A repeatable 10-minute comparison workflow
- Choose the product you actually need and find its complete model number.
- Open the Argos and Currys listings for that exact model.
- Match size, colour, capacity, specification and included accessories.
- Set the same postcode or collection requirement at both retailers.
- Record item price, stock status, delivery or collection date and charge.
- Add only the installation or removal services you would genuinely use.
- Read the relevant return instructions for the product and channel.
- Calculate the complete total for each retailer.
- If Currys is preferred, test the lower offer against the price-promise conditions and seven-day timing rule.
- Recheck the final basket immediately before payment and save the order terms.
How current can a price comparison be?
Retail prices, stock, delivery slots, installation services and return wording are time-sensitive.
