Skullcandy Crusher 720 headphones are a good fit for bass-focused listeners who want very long battery life and convenient Bluetooth calls. They can handle casual gaming through low-latency audio and THX Spatial Audio, but they are not a substitute for a dedicated wireless gaming headset. Travel is a compromise: the 720 folds flat and lasts up to 65 hours, yet its 362.8 g weight and lack of active noise cancellation make it less comfortable and less effective on aircraft than lighter ANC models.

The key decision is whether you value the Crusher line’s physical bass effect more than low weight, aircraft noise reduction or a boom microphone. If bass impact is your priority, Skullcandy Crusher 720 headphones are easier to justify. If competitive gaming and console wireless are the priority, the separate Crusher PLYR 720 is the more appropriate design.
Are Crusher 720 headphones good for gaming?
They are capable of casual gaming, especially when you play on a computer, phone or Nintendo Switch and want strong low-end effects. The 720 combines low-latency audio with THX Spatial Audio, so directional effects and explosions can feel more prominent than they do on a conventional stereo headset. Adjustable Crusher Bass lets you increase or reduce the physical bass response instead of accepting one fixed tuning.

- Low-latency audio: reduces the delay between an in-game event and what you hear, which is important for timing-heavy play.
- THX Spatial Audio: creates a wider, positional presentation for supported game and media content. It is intended to improve spatial immersion, not to guarantee competitive-level positional accuracy in every title.
- Crusher Bass: makes impacts, engine noise and soundtrack bass physically prominent. Lower the setting if rumble masks dialogue, footsteps or other cues.
- Bluetooth convenience: lets you move between gaming and general listening without a separate gaming receiver when the source supports Bluetooth audio.
Console compatibility is the main limitation
Skullcandy states that Xbox One and PlayStation 4 do not support Bluetooth audio headsets. That means the Crusher 720 cannot provide a normal direct Bluetooth headset connection on those consoles. Nintendo Switch supports Bluetooth audio, so the 720 can be used there, subject to the Switch’s own Bluetooth behavior and microphone limitations.

On a PC, tablet or phone, pair the headphones in the operating system’s Bluetooth menu and select them as the playback and communications device. A wired 3.5 mm connection is also available when Bluetooth is unsuitable or the source has a headphone jack. Wired operation avoids Bluetooth pairing, but features that depend on the wireless signal or companion processing may not behave identically.
When the Crusher PLYR 720 makes more sense
The Crusher PLYR 720 is purpose-built as a gaming headset. It adds a 2.4 GHz wireless transmitter and a removable boom microphone, giving PC and compatible console users a more conventional gaming connection and a microphone positioned close to the mouth. The Crusher 720’s microphone is built into the earcup, which is more convenient for calls but less flexible when teammates need consistently clear speech.
TechRadar listed the PLYR 720 at launch in 2026 at $269.99, £229.99 or AU$449.99, with a 48-hour battery claim in its specification table. Those are launch figures for the separate model, not the Crusher 720’s price or battery rating. Choose the PLYR model when a 2.4 GHz link, boom mic and gaming-first controls matter more than the 720’s general-purpose design.

Can you use Crusher 720 for calls?
Yes. The 720 has a Clear Voice Smart Mic, sidetone and Bluetooth support for Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet and Discord. Sidetone feeds some of your own voice back into the headphones, helping you avoid shouting when the earcups are isolating you from the room.
What to expect from the microphone
The microphone is designed for everyday conversations, meetings and voice chat rather than studio recording. It should be adequate for a work call or a gaming party when your environment is reasonably quiet. Do not treat the “Clear Voice” name as a guarantee of broadcast-quality speech: the available product information supports convenience and compatibility, not a studio-grade quality claim.
For the clearest call, keep the microphone openings unobstructed, use a stable Bluetooth connection and select the Crusher 720 as both the input and output device in the calling app. If an app continues using the laptop’s internal microphone, open its audio settings and choose the headset manually. Sidetone can be useful during long meetings, but turn it down or off if hearing your own voice becomes distracting.

Are Crusher 720 headphones good for travel and flights?
They are practical for charging and packing, but only moderately comfortable for long flights. Skullcandy’s 2026 product specification lists up to 65 hours of battery life, and a 10-minute charge provides up to four hours of playback. The headphones fold flat and include a drawstring travel bag, so they take less space than a rigid-case headset and are unlikely to need daily charging on a trip.

The listed weight is 362.8 g. That is substantial for an over-ear travel headphone. Some listeners will be comfortable with it for a commute or a short flight, while others may notice neck pressure or a heavier fit during a full day of airport and cabin use. The weight also matters when the headphones are packed in a small personal bag: the folded shape saves volume, but it does not make the headset light.
What the battery figures mean
“Up to 65 hours” is a maximum manufacturer estimate, not a guaranteed runtime in every mode. Actual endurance varies with volume, wireless features, spatial processing and microphone use. The rapid-charge figure is likewise a specific short-charge allowance: 10 minutes connected to power is rated for four hours of playback. A full charge before departure is still the safest approach, especially if you expect to use Bluetooth for a long itinerary.

Do Crusher 720 headphones have ANC?
No active noise cancellation is presented for the Crusher 720. Instead, Skullcandy describes Adjustable Stay-Aware Mode, which uses the headphones’ microphones to amplify ambient sound so you can remain aware of your surroundings without removing the headphones.
Stay-Aware is the opposite of an aircraft-noise-canceling mode: it intentionally brings outside sound into your ears. That is useful when walking, listening for announcements or talking to someone nearby, but it does not suppress the steady low-frequency roar of an airplane cabin. Passive earcup isolation may reduce some higher-frequency sound, yet travelers who specifically want engine-noise reduction should choose a model with documented ANC rather than assuming Stay-Aware is an equivalent feature.

The Crusher 720 is built around adjustable bass impact. Increase Crusher Bass for electronic music, hip-hop, action games and films where low-frequency effects are part of the experience. Reduce it when you want vocals, acoustic instruments, dialogue or footsteps to stand out more naturally.

THX Spatial Audio adds a processed spatial presentation. It can make games and compatible media feel larger, but spatial processing is a preference rather than an objective upgrade for every recording. Listeners who prefer a neutral or highly accurate response should audition the available EQ and spatial modes before buying. The 720’s appeal is its ability to make bass physically noticeable, not strict reference tuning.

The PLYR 720’s open-back gaming design can make your surroundings easier to hear, but it is a poor choice when you need strong isolation on a plane or in a noisy room. The Crusher 720 is the more versatile everyday headphone; the PLYR 720 is the more suitable tool for a gamer who needs a boom mic and dedicated low-latency wireless.
Which model should you choose?
Choose Crusher 720 if you:
- Want the longest stated battery life of the two models.
- Prefer powerful, adjustable bass for music, films and games.
- Need one headset for Bluetooth calls, general listening and occasional gaming.
- Use Nintendo Switch, PC, phone or tablet Bluetooth, or can connect through 3.5 mm.
- Want a flat-folding design and a small included travel bag.
Choose Crusher PLYR 720 if you:
- Play primarily on PC or a compatible console and want 2.4 GHz wireless.
- Need a removable boom microphone close to your mouth for team chat.
- Prefer gaming-specific hardware over a general music-and-calls headset.

Practical setup and troubleshooting
For Bluetooth gaming or calls
- Charge the Crusher 720 before pairing, particularly before a trip or long session.
- Open the source device’s Bluetooth settings, select the Crusher 720 and complete pairing.
- In the game or calling app, choose the Crusher 720 for both output and microphone input.
- Start with Crusher Bass at a moderate level, then raise it only if it does not mask dialogue or positional cues.
- Enable THX Spatial Audio when you prefer a wider presentation; disable it if voices or directional sounds seem less natural.
If a console will not connect
First identify whether the console supports Bluetooth audio headsets. Xbox One and PS4 do not, according to Skullcandy’s support information, so repeated pairing attempts will not solve that platform limitation. Nintendo Switch supports Bluetooth audio. For unsupported consoles, use a compatible wired path or choose the PLYR 720’s 2.4 GHz transmitter system if your console is listed as compatible with that package.
If call audio is wrong
- Confirm the Crusher 720 is selected as the app’s speaker and microphone, not only as the computer’s default output.
- Check that the microphone openings are not covered by clothing, hair or a case.
- Reduce nearby noise; the built-in mic is intended for everyday calls, not guaranteed studio isolation.
- Use sidetone only at a level that helps you monitor your voice without becoming distracting.
Bottom line
Crusher 720 is a strong all-purpose choice when adjustable bass, long battery life and Bluetooth calling matter most. It is competent for casual gaming, but Xbox One and PS4 Bluetooth restrictions and the built-in microphone keep it from replacing a dedicated console gaming headset. For flights, the flat-folding design and 65-hour claim are useful, while the 362.8 g weight and absence of ANC are meaningful drawbacks. Select the PLYR 720 instead when a 2.4 GHz gaming link and removable boom mic are non-negotiable.
