The Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 have promising travel specifications, but those numbers alone do not establish that they are satisfying long-flight earbuds. Sennheiser claims up to 12 hours of playback from the earbuds and up to 40 hours with the charging case; independent review finds the noise cancellation useful, but not exceptional. The supplied flight headline reports a 1,480-mile trip and dissatisfaction, but provides no specific account of what fell short, so there is no basis to attribute the verdict to comfort, battery life, or cabin noise.
First, which MOMENTUM 5 earbuds?
The product in question is the Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless 5, an in-ear model. It is distinct from the over-ear MOMENTUM 5 Wireless headphones. That distinction matters for flying: the wired “flight mode” described in the over-ear model’s manual does not establish that the True Wireless 5 earbuds accept a cable or connect directly to a seatback entertainment system.
What their battery claims mean for a flight
Sennheiser lists up to 12 hours of playback from the earbuds and up to 40 hours total when the charging case is included. Those are manufacturer figures, not measured runtime on a plane or confirmation that a single charge will cover every long-haul itinerary. Actual playback can vary with use and conditions.

Sennheiser says an eight-minute charge can provide about one additional hour of music playback. Its support documentation puts a full earbud charge at approximately 1.5 hours. These figures can help with planning, but they do not resolve whether the earbuds lasted through the reported flight: no flight battery measurements are available.

How well does the noise cancellation work?
Sennheiser lists adaptive active noise cancellation and adjustable transparency mode. In a review published September 3, 2026, Tom’s Guide judged the ANC useful but not exceptional. Its reviewer reported that the earbuds blocked much environmental noise in a city-noise evaluation, while low-frequency engines and some higher-frequency sounds remained audible while walking. That is not an airplane-cabin test, so it cannot predict how much engine or passenger noise these earbuds will reduce in flight.
For travelers whose top priority is maximum noise cancellation, the Tom’s Guide review identifies the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Gen 2 as stronger. That comparison is about cancellation, not a universal ranking of comfort, battery life, or suitability for every traveler.

Fit and seatback entertainment are separate considerations
Sennheiser’s support article lists four included ear-tip sizes: XS, S, M, and L. A well-fitting tip contributes to the seal and affects how earbuds feel and isolate sound, but the listed sizes do not guarantee that a particular wearer will find a secure or comfortable fit. The flight account does not specify a fit result.
The True Wireless 5 are wireless earbuds, and the available information does not establish a wired audio input for them. Do not assume that the over-ear MOMENTUM 5 Wireless manual’s wired flight mode applies to these earbuds. If you want to listen to seatback entertainment, confirm a compatible connection method for this exact earbud model and the aircraft system before relying on it.

Who should consider them for travel?
- Consider them if you want wireless in-ear headphones with manufacturer-rated playback of up to 12 hours per charge, a case that supports USB-C and Qi charging, and adjustable transparency.
- Look more closely if blocking as much cabin noise as possible is your main goal; the cited review describes the ANC as good rather than class-leading.
- Check before departure if your plan depends on a particular ear-tip fit, uninterrupted long-session comfort, or connecting to the seatback screen. The available evidence does not verify those outcomes for this flight or this model.
The reported 1,480-mile trip may support a personal verdict, but without the traveler’s specific observations it cannot show whether the shortfall was battery, comfort, noise cancellation, or something else. The specifications and city-noise review provide useful context, not a substitute for those missing flight details.
