Roblox clones are not automatically dangerous. A fan-made game can borrow a genre or mechanic without trying to steal anything. Treat a copycat as high risk, however, when it impersonates an official creator, uses confusingly similar branding, asks for a password or other personal information, sends you to an outside login or “verification” page, promises free Robux, or asks you to download an exploit, executor, modified client, or “booster.” Those behaviors are associated with phishing, malware and account theft, and Roblox rules prohibit impersonation, misleading near-duplicates and repeated near-identical uploads.
What “Roblox clone” actually means
People use clone for several different things, and the label alone does not establish whether a game is safe.
- Genre-inspired experience: An independent creator makes a game with familiar features, such as an obstacle course, simulator or social hangout. Similar gameplay is not automatically a scam.
- Near-identical copy: The title, icon, thumbnails, description, map or scripts closely reproduce another creator’s work. It may be a policy or intellectual-property violation even if it never asks for your credentials.
- Impersonation page: A game or account is designed to look official so that players trust a fake creator, promotion or support message.
- Phishing trap: The experience is primarily a funnel to an outside login, “verification” form or download intended to capture passwords, cookies, payment details or other data.
Roblox’s Community Standards prohibit deceptive, sensational, duplicative or otherwise misleading content or metadata that is confusingly similar to another creator’s work. They also prohibit repeatedly uploading content that is identical or nearly identical to an existing experience. A rights violation and a malware scam are different problems, so assess both the content and the game’s behavior.

A deceptive listing tries to borrow another creator’s identity or trust. Separate those cases before deciding what action to take.

The fastest safety test
Before playing, ask four questions:
- Does the creator clearly identify itself? A name, icon or description that imitates Roblox, a well-known developer or a popular group is a warning sign.
- Does anything leave Roblox? A link to “verify,” claim Robux, download a tool or log in is a major risk indicator.
- Is the game asking for secrets? Never provide a Roblox password, browser cookie, recovery code, two-step verification code, payment information or other personal data in an experience or on a page it opens.
- Is it offering something unrealistically valuable? Free Robux, rare items, instant moderation appeals and secret giveaways are common lures when they require an outside login or download.
If the answer to any of the last three questions is yes, leave immediately. You do not need to prove that the game is malicious before protecting your account.
Also consider whether the request makes sense for normal gameplay. A game can award an in-game badge or item through its own systems, but it has no legitimate reason to read a browser cookie, request a recovery code or require an unrelated executable. Treat a demand for information that the game cannot technically need as a stop signal.
Red flags that a copycat game is a scam
Password or personal-information requests
Roblox tells users to report people who ask for passwords or personal information. A legitimate experience does not need your Roblox password, cookie, recovery code or two-step verification code to award an in-game item. Do not type those details into chat, a GUI inside the game or a web form opened from the game.
Never assume a request is safe because it appears in a polished menu or comes from an account with a familiar avatar. Scammers can copy interface graphics and use a stolen or newly created profile. Your password should be entered only through the official Roblox sign-in flow, not into a game prompt, direct message or “support” form.
Off-site “verification” and login pages
A link that opens a non-official website for verification, free Robux, a prize, a moderation appeal or a download should be treated as hostile until proven otherwise. A page can copy Roblox’s colors and logo and still be controlled by a scammer. Close the tab rather than signing in to “check whether it is real.”
Check the destination before clicking when possible, but do not use a convincing domain or security padlock as proof of legitimacy. The safest response is to return to the Roblox app or type roblox.com yourself. Any promotion that works only after an external login is not worth risking the account.
Exploit, executor or modified-client downloads
Do not install an executor, exploit, modified Roblox client, “FPS booster,” injector or verification tool offered by a game or video. Roblox Support warns: “Many exploits are scams to get you to download malware, such as a keylogger or other phishing program that can be used to steal personal information on your computer, including your Roblox password.” A keylogger can capture more than Roblox credentials, including email, payment and work accounts used on the same device.

Impersonation and confusing branding
Compare the creator name, profile, icon, title, thumbnails and description with the original experience. Small changes—extra punctuation, a substituted character, a copied verification badge or wording such as “official update”—are designed to make a fake listing look authentic. Roblox rules prohibit impersonating individuals, groups or entities and prohibit misleading content that is confusingly similar to another creator’s work.

Look for consistency across the profile. A supposed studio with no matching history, a recently created account claiming to be a famous developer, or artwork that appears copied while the description contains unrelated promises deserves extra caution. Similarity alone is not proof of malware, but deliberate confusion is a reason to leave and report.
Free Robux, rare items and impossible promotions
Promises of currency or items are not proof of malware by themselves, but an outside login or download turns the offer into a high-risk scam pattern. Roblox also says there is no official method to buy or sell experiences. Be skeptical of anyone claiming to sell you an experience, transfer ownership through a private payment, or provide a secret staff deal.

Do not pay a stranger to “reserve” an experience or send money in exchange for a promised transfer. Keep purchases in Roblox’s normal systems, and remember that urgency does not make an unofficial offer legitimate. If an offer cannot be explained without a private payment, external account or unknown file, decline it.
Pressure, threats and secrecy
“Do this in the next 60 seconds,” threats of an immediate ban, instructions to keep the offer secret, and requests to paste code into a browser are social-engineering tactics. Official moderation does not require you to run unknown code or disclose a password. Stop when a message tries to rush you past normal account-safety decisions.
Scammers often combine pressure with authority: a fake moderator may claim that only a quick verification prevents a ban. Save the message if useful for a report, but do not continue the conversation or follow its instructions. Legitimate safety decisions remain valid after you take time to verify them through Roblox’s official channels.
How to check a Roblox game safely
Use this procedure before spending Robux, joining a private server or following any promotion.
- Start from an official entry point. Open the Roblox app or type
roblox.comyourself. Do not launch the experience from a chat message, Discord post, video description or search advertisement. - Inspect the listing. Read the exact title, creator identity, description, thumbnail and update information. Look for copied branding, unusual spelling, a newly created account claiming to be an established studio, or promises unrelated to gameplay.
- Compare it with the original. Check creator history, artwork, metadata and whether the account appears authorized by the original rights holder. A distinct fan project should not need to pretend it is official.
- Check every prompt in the experience. Decline requests for passwords, cookies, recovery codes, payment details, downloads or external “verification.” A game should not need those items to let you play.
- Keep software unchanged. Do not install an executor, exploit, modified client, injector, FPS tool or browser extension supplied by the experience. Roblox’s exploit warning specifically includes keyloggers and phishing malware.
- Leave and report. Use Roblox’s reporting controls for the experience, account, message or link. Reports give moderators information to remove violating content and take action on accounts.
- Secure the account if you disclosed anything. Change the password from the official Roblox site, enable 2-Step Verification or a passkey, and review account activity for unfamiliar sessions or changes.
- Clean a device after a download. Disconnect suspicious software, uninstall it and run a reputable malware scan before using that device for account recovery. This is especially important when an exploit or “booster” was installed because of the keylogger risk described by Roblox Support.
Use the same checks when a friend sends a recommendation. Accounts can be compromised, and a familiar contact may unknowingly forward a scam link. Verify the experience independently instead of trusting the sender’s avatar or message.
What to do if you clicked a fake link
You opened the page but entered nothing
Close it, do not download files, and remove any notification permission the site requested. Return to Roblox through the official app or site. Report the experience, message or account that sent the link.
You entered a password or code
Change the Roblox password immediately from an official entry point. If you reused that password elsewhere, change it there too. Turn on 2-Step Verification or a passkey, review account activity, remove unfamiliar email addresses or phone numbers, and check whether trades, purchases, inventory or privacy settings changed. A recovery code or two-step code should be considered compromised once typed into a suspicious page.

Secure the email account connected to Roblox as well, because access to that inbox can enable further password resets. Tell a parent or trusted adult promptly if the account belongs to a child. Do not wait to see whether anything happens; early password and security changes reduce the time an attacker can use the credentials.
You downloaded or ran a program
Stop using the program, disconnect the device from the internet if suspicious activity continues, uninstall the software and run a reputable malware scan. Complete account recovery from a clean device when possible. Change passwords for Roblox and any accounts used on that computer, particularly email and payment accounts. If the scan reports malware, follow the security software’s removal instructions before signing in again.
Do not disable the scanner simply because the download promised better frame rates or access to a private server. Keep evidence such as the filename and URL for a report, but do not reopen the file to test it.
Your account is already taken over
Use Roblox’s official account-recovery and support process, secure the email account attached to Roblox first, and tell a parent or trusted adult if you are a minor. Preserve evidence such as the fake URL, creator name, messages and download filename, but do not revisit the site just to collect more information.
Copycat does not always mean credential theft
A near-duplicate can be unsafe in a different sense: it may violate Roblox policy or someone’s intellectual-property rights without attempting to steal an account. Roblox’s rules address confusingly similar misleading content and repeated near-identical uploads. Creators can control whether their experience may be copied as a template, and rights holders can use Roblox’s copyright takedown process for infringing material.
For a player, the practical test remains behavioral. Avoid external credential requests and downloads regardless of whether the copy is merely unauthorized or actively malicious. Report deceptive content; do not harass the creator or attempt to retaliate.
If you are comparing two playable experiences, note the distinction in your report. A complaint about copied artwork or a near-identical upload is different from a report about phishing. Describing both the copied elements and the external request helps Roblox direct the report appropriately. Rights holders, rather than ordinary players, should use the copyright takedown route for ownership disputes.

No single row proves that a game is malicious. The risk rises when several high-risk signs appear together, especially an impersonated listing combined with an external login or download. Conversely, a game that is merely similar but keeps play inside Roblox and requests no sensitive information may be a policy concern without being an account-theft operation.
How to report a scam or deceptive game
- Open the experience, account, message or link in Roblox’s official app or website.
- Use the platform’s report control and select the category that best describes phishing, scams, impersonation, deceptive content or another violation.
- Include a concise description: what was promised, what information or download was requested, the creator identity and where the external link appeared.
- Report related accounts or messages separately when they are involved. Do not click the link again to gather proof.
Roblox says reports help moderators remove violating content and moderate accounts. If you own the copied work, Roblox’s copyright takedown process is the appropriate route for an infringement claim; a normal player report is not a substitute for that legal process.

Keep the report factual and avoid posting the suspicious URL publicly where other players might click it. A screenshot, exact creator name and description of the requested credential or download can be more useful than repeated visits to the page.
Why clone scams matter at Roblox’s scale
Roblox reported 111.8 million average daily active users in 2025, along with about 6.1 billion chat messages and 1.1 million hours of voice chat per day. Roblox also reported 24,522 reports to the U.S. National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in 2024, published in 2025. These figures show the platform’s size and safety workload; they are not an estimate of how common clone-game scams are. Large audiences and high-volume communication simply give deceptive listings more opportunities to reach players.
That scale is why a scam may appear in a game description, a private message, a voice conversation or a link shared outside Roblox. The same safety rule applies in every channel: verify through the official app or website, refuse requests for secrets and downloads, and report the account or content that made the request.

Practice the response before a problem occurs. Children should know that reporting a suspicious game is more important than finishing a quest or claiming a limited-time prize. Adults can also review account activity together so an unfamiliar session, trade or purchase is noticed quickly.

Judge it by its identity and behavior, not by the word “clone.” Staying inside the official Roblox app or website, refusing credential and download requests, and reporting deceptive listings blocks the most common paths to account theft.
