Yes. NVIDIA graphics drivers can be downloaded without buying the driver separately. They are licensed software, however, and you need compatible NVIDIA hardware and the correct package for your product and operating system. Download access for enterprise virtual-GPU software is a separate case with its own licensing requirement.
What “free to download” means
NVIDIA’s customer-use license says its software is licensed rather than sold. In practice, you can get an ordinary graphics-driver download from NVIDIA without paying a separate driver purchase price, but the software remains subject to its license terms. Review NVIDIA’s GeForce Software license and the terms presented during the download or installation process; the license page displays a version date of February 25, 2025, and terms may change.
A free driver download does not make the graphics card or computer free, and it does not mean every NVIDIA software product has the same terms. NVIDIA says enterprise customers need a current vGPU software license to access its enterprise virtual-GPU download portal. That requirement applies to that enterprise access route; it does not mean ordinary GeForce drivers require a paid subscription.
How to find the right NVIDIA driver
- Open NVIDIA Driver Downloads.
- Select the NVIDIA product and operating system that match your computer. NVIDIA makes customers responsible for checking that the software is appropriate for their graphics controller, operating system, and hardware.
- Choose an available driver type that fits your workload. NVIDIA positions Game Ready drivers for gaming and Studio drivers for creative applications; that guidance is not a guarantee that one option is best for every system or application.
- Download the matching package and review the applicable license terms before installing it.
Game Ready or Studio: which should you choose?
Use your main workload as a starting point: NVIDIA describes Game Ready drivers as its gaming-focused option and Studio drivers as aimed at creative applications. Check that the offered package supports your specific product and operating system first. The driver label alone cannot establish compatibility or determine what is best for every application and setup.

- AI Performance: 767 AI TOPS
- OC mode: 2632 MHz (OC mode)/ 2602 MHz (Default mode)
- Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4
- Axial-tech fan design features a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- A 2.5-slot design maximizes compatibility and cooling efficiency for superior performance in small chassis
Do you need the NVIDIA App?
No. NVIDIA describes the NVIDIA App as a way to get automatic driver updates, and some driver downloads offer it as an installation option. It is companion software, not a stated prerequisite for downloading a graphics driver. The app has separate license terms, so review them if you choose to install it.
Linux users: check your distribution’s packages
NVIDIA notes that many Linux distributions provide NVIDIA graphics-driver packages through their native package managers. Those packages may integrate better with the distribution’s framework. Check your distribution’s own installation guidance alongside NVIDIA’s driver page, and confirm that the package supports your GPU and system.

What the GeForce license covers
NVIDIA’s GeForce Software license grants a non-exclusive, non-transferable license for use with customer-owned NVIDIA GeForce or Titan hardware, subject to its conditions. It also restricts activities such as modifying, reverse engineering, sublicensing, and redistributing the software. These are examples rather than a complete summary; consult the full license for the terms that apply to your use.

When a driver download is not enough
- The product or operating system does not match: Don’t install a package just because it is labeled NVIDIA. Recheck the product and OS selections on NVIDIA’s driver page.
- You are installing on Linux: Check whether your distribution recommends its own package-manager route before using a standalone download.
- You need enterprise virtual-GPU software: NVIDIA’s vGPU download portal requires a current vGPU software license for enterprise customers.
- You are unsure about permitted use: Read the applicable license before downloading or installing; availability at no separate driver charge does not remove license restrictions.
