Fender MIX is a flexible over-ear headphone whose strongest argument is how many ways it connects: Bluetooth, an included USB-C wireless transmitter, USB-C audio and a 3.5 mm cable. Its modular construction is another plus. At the listed US price of $299, however, reviewers found its sound, noise cancellation and calls good rather than class-leading. It is most compelling for listeners who will use its connection options or repairable design—not for someone seeking the best audio or ANC at the price.
What does Fender MIX offer for $299?
Fender Audio’s US product page lists MIX at $299. The over-ear headphones weigh 330 g and use 40 mm graphene drivers, hybrid active noise cancellation (ANC), environmental noise cancellation and dual microphones. Their Bluetooth 5.3 codec support is listed as SBC, AAC, LC3 and LHDC. The package includes an FWD Tx USB-C transmitter. Fender Audio’s product page is the source for the specifications and listed price; prices and availability can change.
The appeal is the unusual range of connection choices, rather than a single standout performance claim. The transmitter adds wireless modes intended for lossless listening, low latency and Auracast broadcasting; USB-C and 3.5 mm provide wired alternatives. Fender describes transmitter lossless playback as up to 96 kHz/24-bit and latency as under 20 ms. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements established by the reviews discussed here. Auracast also requires compatible receiving devices.
Which connection should you use?
| Connection | Useful for | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Bluetooth | Everyday listening from a phone, tablet or computer | Supports SBC, AAC, LC3 and LHDC, according to Fender. Which codec is used depends on the source device and its compatibility. |
| Included FWD Tx USB-C transmitter | Low-latency or lossless wireless playback, and Auracast broadcasting | Fender advertises lossless playback up to 96 kHz/24-bit and latency under 20 ms. These figures are manufacturer claims, not independent test results. Auracast reception depends on compatible devices. |
| USB-C audio | A wired digital connection to a compatible source | Useful when you want a cable connection instead of Bluetooth or the transmitter. |
| 3.5 mm cable | Analog sources or listening when the battery is depleted | Fender says passive playback works without power. ANC and digital signal processing (DSP) are inactive in this mode. |
For video editing, gaming or other work where timing matters, the transmitter’s low-latency mode is the relevant option; Bluetooth alone is not the product’s only wireless path. The stated under-20-ms figure is Fender’s specification, not a guarantee for every setup. Compatibility, source hardware and the selected connection all matter.

How does MIX sound, and how effective is its ANC?
Reviews agree that MIX is usable, but do not put it among the best performers at its price. Simon Cohen’s WIRED review rated it 7/10, describing the default Music EQ as balanced while saying the headphones do not reach the top tier for sound and do not set benchmarks for ANC or calls. WIRED’s review also identifies the transmitter and repairability as strengths.
Jaron Schneider’s PetaPixel review was less positive about the sound balance: he found the bass present and over-represented, and judged the microphone merely adequate, with weak voice isolation in loud surroundings. He considered MIX serviceable for monitoring, video editing on the go and entertainment, but concluded it did not quite justify $299. PetaPixel’s review reflects one reviewer’s listening and use, not a controlled comparison or a result that every listener will share.

Schneider also found the headphones comfortable over long sessions, though snug enough that some users may experience pressure fatigue. Fit and comfort are personal, so treat that observation as a useful caveat rather than a universal verdict.
Can you use MIX without charging it?
Yes, with a 3.5 mm analog connection: Fender says passive playback remains available when the headphones are unpowered. That does not preserve the powered features. ANC and DSP are inactive in passive mode, so an uncharged headset is not equivalent to using MIX wirelessly or with its digital processing enabled.

- Advanced build quality and engineering; Designed for studio tracking and mixing
- 40 mm drivers with rare earth magnets and copper clad aluminum wire voice coils
- Tuned for enhanced low frequency performance
- Circumaural design contours around the ears for excellent sound isolation in loud environments
- Convenient single side cable exit
Battery-life figures are manufacturer claims: up to 100 hours with ANC off and 52 hours with ANC on. Fender’s FAQ qualifies the 100-hour figure as measured at 50% volume; the page does not establish that every listening setup will reach those maximums. Fender separately lists a two-hour full charge. Its page gives conflicting quick-charge information: the overview says 15 minutes provides one hour of playback, while the detailed specifications say 15 minutes provides eight hours with ANC or 14 hours without ANC. Because those figures conflict, do not rely on a specific quick-charge duration without confirmation from Fender.
Is MIX modular, and are replacement parts available?
The design allows components to be swapped, and reviewers describe access to the battery and transmitter behind removable ear cushions. That makes repairability a real part of the product’s appeal, rather than simply another wireless feature. WIRED reported expected replacement prices of $29 per pair of cushions and $49 for a battery, but these were expected prices reported in March 2026—not confirmation of current stock or a current purchase offer. WIRED did not state when the battery would be available.

Does MIX have a companion app?
Yes, on iPhone according to a September 4, 2026 report from 9to5Mac. The Fender Audio app supports EQ presets, a custom five-band equalizer, a battery indicator and configurable home-screen widgets. 9to5Mac’s report establishes iPhone app availability; it does not establish Android availability. Earlier reviews saying there was no app described the launch-era situation and should not be treated as current for iPhone.

- Consider it if you will make practical use of multiple connections, including the included USB-C transmitter, or value a design intended to allow component replacement.
- Look elsewhere if your first priorities are class-leading sound, ANC or microphone performance for $299. Reviewers found MIX competent in these areas but not a benchmark-setter.
- For creator or video work, its range of wired and wireless options can be useful for monitoring and editing on the move. PetaPixel regarded it as serviceable for those uses, while also criticizing the sound balance and noisy-environment microphone performance.
- For multi-headphone listening, Auracast is the relevant transmitter feature, but the receiving headphones or devices must support Auracast. Fender’s feature description alone does not establish compatibility with every Bluetooth product.
Before buying, compare alternatives on the factors that matter to your use: sound tuning, ANC and calls, connection choices and latency, replacement-part access, and current price. PetaPixel names Sony WH-1000XM5 and XM6, Bose QuietComfort and Sennheiser Momentum 5 as wireless alternatives, and Sony MDR-7506 and Sennheiser HD 300 for wired listening. Its review does not provide a controlled, apples-to-apples test across those products, so the names are starting points for comparison, not proof that one is better for every listener.
