Some Chinese phone makers advertise BT.2020 display capabilities, but the available official specifications do not prove that their phone screens independently measure wider than DCI-P3—or that they outperform Samsung phones. Huawei lists BT.2020 on the Mate 90 Pro Max; OPPO’s Find X9 BT.2020 claim is about video recording, not its OLED panel. Samsung Display, meanwhile, has announced a wide-gamut OLED technology, not a specific Samsung handset display.
What does “beyond DCI-P3” mean?
DCI-P3 and BT.2020 are color spaces: standards that define ranges of colors. BT.2020 covers a broader theoretical range than DCI-P3. A claim that a screen supports BT.2020 does not, by itself, tell you how much of that range the panel can actually show.
Coverage figures need a measurement method to be comparable. A stated percentage might describe a display panel, a camera’s recording gamut, or a broader workflow that includes capture and editing. Those are different capabilities, and a gamut label alone does not establish overall image quality.

Huawei Mate 90 Pro Max: a display specification
Huawei’s official Mate 90 Pro Max specifications list a dual-layer OLED, 10.7 billion colors, BT.2020 wide color gamut, and adaptive 1–120 Hz LTPO refresh. This is a manufacturer specification, not an independent panel measurement.

Huawei support material also says its screen’s BT.2020 gamut coverage is 32% higher than P3. Huawei describes a broader color pipeline involving capture, recording, display, editing, wireless projection, screenshots, wallpapers, and sharing. The support page does not provide an independently validated result or enough measurement detail to treat the 32% figure as a like-for-like comparison with another phone.
OPPO Find X9: BT.2020 for Log video
OPPO’s Find X9 product page for India discusses BT.2020 in its Log video recording section, describing capture in that color space with up to 10-bit depth and HDR for color grading and professional workflows. That is a camera and post-production claim. It does not establish that the Find X9 OLED panel covers BT.2020 or exceeds DCI-P3.

What has Samsung Display announced?
In its SID Display Week 2026 announcement, Samsung Display described a wide-color-gamut OLED technology with up to 96% BT.2020 color coverage and up to 3,000 nits in High Brightness Mode. The announcement does not identify a Samsung smartphone that uses this display, so these figures should not be presented as specifications for a shipping handset.
Samsung Display also calls BT.2020 approximately 1.7 times broader than DCI-P3. That describes the relative breadth of the standards, not the measured coverage of its OLED technology. The 96% coverage and brightness figures are announced technology capabilities, not independent tests of a phone screen.

What can be concluded from these claims?
There are official examples of BT.2020-related capabilities from Huawei, OPPO, and Samsung Display, but they refer to different things: a Huawei phone display specification, OPPO video capture, and Samsung Display technology. They do not amount to a like-for-like independent test showing that Chinese phone OLED panels broadly exceed DCI-P3 or outperform Samsung phones.
To compare actual handsets, check the same kind of evidence for each model:

- Panel versus workflow: confirm that the BT.2020 claim is explicitly about the display, not camera recording or grading.
- Defined coverage metric: look for the stated coverage percentage and how it was calculated; do not equate a gamut label with full coverage.
- Independent measurement: distinguish a manufacturer’s specification from a measurement made under a disclosed test method.
- Exact device and settings: match the model and regional variant, software, and display mode. Different settings can affect the comparison.
Without those details on a common basis, the claims are not enough to rank phone displays. A wider color gamut can be useful for compatible content, but it does not by itself establish that a screen will look better in ordinary use.
