Beats Solo 4 can be worth buying if you want lightweight on-ear headphones, long manufacturer-claimed battery life, and the option to listen over a cable. They are a poor fit if you need active noise cancellation (ANC), strong isolation, or pressure-free comfort for long sessions. Because fit and sound preference are personal, try them on if possible before choosing them for all-day wear or noisy commutes.
What you get with Beats Solo 4
Solo 4 is an on-ear headphone: its cushions sit on your ears rather than enclosing them. Beats lists the weight at 217 g and includes USB-C and 3.5 mm audio cables. The design is compact and light, but the on-ear fit and clamping pressure matter more to comfort than the weight alone.
Beats’ official US product page listed the headphones at $199.99 when accessed on October 9, 2026. That is the official listed price, not a confirmed retailer street price; check the price and availability where you plan to buy.
Are they comfortable for long listening sessions?
Comfort depends on how the headband clamp and ear cushions feel on your ears. Beats describes the cushions as designed for lasting comfort, but that design claim cannot predict an individual fit. WIRED’s reviewer reported clamping discomfort over time, while also managing to wear the headphones for multiple hours.

If you are sensitive to pressure on your ears, wear headphones for long stretches, or cannot return an uncomfortable purchase, try Solo 4 on first. An over-ear model may be a better starting point if you prefer cushions that surround rather than press against your ears.
How do they sound?
Independent reviewers do not describe the sound identically. RTINGS characterizes the response as accurate and slightly bright, while SoundGuys found some bass too quiet in particular material. Those are listening assessments, not a guarantee of what every listener will hear.

Do not buy Solo 4 on the assumption that it will deliver a strongly bass-heavy sound. If bass emphasis or a specific tonal balance is decisive, audition the headphones with music you know and at a comfortable listening level.

Beats advertises up to 50 hours of listening time per charge. Its Fast Fuel claim is up to five hours of playback from a 10-minute charge. These are manufacturer figures, not guaranteed everyday results. Beats’ battery-testing footnote describes testing in March 2024 with preproduction Solo 4 headphones paired with iPhone 15 Pro units and prerelease software.

For wired listening, Solo 4 supports both USB-C and 3.5 mm audio. Beats says 3.5 mm listening does not require battery power, which gives you a fallback if the headphones run out of charge. The included cables mean you do not need to buy those two connections separately.
Are they suitable for commuting or noisy places?
No, not if your priority is quiet. Solo 4 has no active noise cancellation. Passive isolation relies on the physical fit of the headphones to reduce outside sound; it is not the same as ANC, which uses microphones and processing to counter some ambient noise. Although Beats describes passive noise isolation, RTINGS and SoundGuys report weak practical isolation. Outside noise can therefore remain a distraction, especially in a noisy commute or office.

For regular travel in loud surroundings, look for headphones with ANC and compare their isolation and comfort. Solo 4 makes more sense in quieter settings or when portability, wired listening, and long claimed battery life matter more than blocking noise.

WIRED notes that Solo 4 does not automatically pause playback when you take the headphones off. If you expect audio to stop as soon as you remove them, you will need to pause it yourself.

Who should buy Beats Solo 4?
They may suit you if
- You prefer a compact, lightweight on-ear design and find its clamp comfortable.
- You value long manufacturer-claimed runtime, physical buttons, and both USB-C and 3.5 mm wired listening.
- You want compatibility with iOS and Android and do not need ANC.
- You will mostly listen somewhere quiet, or weak isolation is acceptable to you.
Consider another fit or feature set if
- You need ANC or strong isolation for commuting, travel, or a noisy workplace.
- On-ear pressure tends to bother you, particularly during long listening sessions.
- You expect a pronounced bass sound without first checking whether the tuning suits you.
- You rely on automatic pausing when removing headphones.
When comparing headphones, focus on the trade-offs that affect your use: on-ear versus over-ear fit, ANC and passive isolation, long-session comfort, sound signature, battery life, wired inputs, device compatibility, and the price available to you at purchase time.
