Choose ARC Raiders for multiplayer extraction raids; choose S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl for a story-led, first-person survival-horror adventure. They share hostile worlds and gunplay, but they are not two versions of the same kind of game: ARC Raiders is an extraction game, while S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is officially described as a first-person shooter, immersive sim, and horror game. GSC says multiplayer for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is planned as a free update, with no timeline announced in its August 21, 2026 support answer.

Choose ARC Raiders if you want extraction runs
Embark calls ARC Raiders a multiplayer extraction adventure. You explore a dangerous surface threatened by mechanized ARC enemies and other Raiders, gather loot, and try to reach an extraction point to bring valuable finds back to Speranza. Loot can be sold or used to craft gear and upgrades. Embark’s official site
Going solo does not make it an offline campaign
PlayStation describes ARC Raiders as online multiplayer-only, with the option to play solo or in teams of two or three. Going topside alone means entering the online game without a squad; it does not switch the game to a standalone offline story mode. PlayStation’s game listing
Account for the risk of a failed run
A launch-day Xbox Wire preview describes the extraction risk: a failed run can cost carried equipment and loot. It also describes free loadouts as a way to enter with a minimum kit that is not at risk. That preview reflects the game at launch, not a guarantee about current balance or every player’s experience. October 2026 PvE matchmaking test
Embark announced a time-limited PvE matchmaking toggle running from October 13, 2026, at 11:00 CEST to October 20 at 11:00 CEST. During the test, players can switch between standard PvPvE and PvE servers. Embark says PvE servers have no player-to-player damage, lower overall loot value, and other matchmaking and map-condition differences. Choose S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 if you want a Zone story
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is GSC’s first-person shooter, immersive sim, and horror adventure in the post-apocalyptic Chornobyl Exclusion Zone. GSC describes an intricate open world and a story shaped by player choices, making it the closer fit for someone who wants to explore a dangerous setting through a nonlinear campaign rather than repeat online loot runs. Do not buy it for a current extraction loop
GSC’s August 21, 2026 support answer says the studio plans to add multiplayer as a free post-release update but is not sharing details or a timeline. That does not establish an available multiplayer mode, much less an extraction-shooter loop. GSC multiplayer FAQ

Current platform availability
The original PC and Xbox Series X|S release was November 20, 2024. GSC’s current site also lists PlayStation and a Standard PS5 Edition; its update archive records Update 2.0 on August 20, 2026, followed by 2.0.x patch entries through September 18, 2026. Which one fits your play style?
- Pick ARC Raiders for online co-op, repeatable scavenging and extraction, crafting, and the tension of possible encounters with other players.
- Pick S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 for a first-person story adventure, open-world exploration, horror atmosphere, and decisions that shape a nonlinear campaign.
- If you specifically want extraction gameplay, ARC Raiders is the one that currently fits that description. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2’s planned multiplayer does not change its present campaign structure.
