The safest way to play ARC Raiders alone is to treat every raid as a route-and-risk problem. Scout extraction before opening containers, keep stamina for disengaging, fight only machines your ammunition can penetrate efficiently, and leave with a margin instead of waiting for a full inventory. For inexpensive farming, use Ferro + Rattler with Looting Mk.1; for dangerous large ARC targets, step up to Hullcracker + Bettina with Combat Mk.3. Mobility skills, clear audio, and stable frame delivery matter more than a copied sensitivity or graphics preset.
What solo play in ARC Raiders actually requires
ARC Raiders is an extraction adventure: you go topside, search resource areas, fight ARC machines and rival Raiders, then reach an extraction point with whatever you can carry. Embark Executive Producer Aleksander Grøndal has described solo play and squads of up to three as viable choices, not as a mode where one is automatically correct. A solo player has fewer weapons firing at once, but also makes every movement, sound decision, extraction call and inventory choice without waiting for teammates.
The practical consequence is that solo success comes from controlling exposure. You need a route that can be abandoned, enough stamina to break contact, healing that works while you are under pressure, and weapons matched to the target in front of you. A high-value container is not worth a fight that leaves you unable to reach extraction.
Should you use the temporary PvE matchmaking test?
From October 13 through October 20, 2026, Embark is testing a PvE matchmaking toggle. The toggle lets players switch between the standard PvPvE experience and separate PvE servers. PvE removes player-to-player damage, but it is not simply a risk-free version of the ordinary queue.

Choose the PvE test when your priority is learning routes, practicing machine fights or gathering low-pressure materials during the test window. Choose standard PvPvE when the higher loot value and full condition pool matter, or when you want to practice the sound discipline and threat assessment required against human Raiders. PvE removes one category of danger; ARC patrols, alarms, exposure and extraction timing still matter.
Plan a solo route before touching a container
Every map has distinct resource areas and different loot values. The first decision is not which container to open; it is where you will leave if the first ten minutes go badly.
Mark two extraction options
Identify the nearest ordinary extraction point and at least one alternative before moving deep into a resource area. Ordinary extraction controls produce a loud alarm, and the site is patrolled. That noise can draw ARC machines and human players in the standard queue. A Raider Hatch is safer when available, but it requires a key, so it is a planned option rather than an emergency assumption.

- Start at a low-exposure resource area near your entry and collect only what you can reach without a prolonged search.
- Move toward a richer area only after checking cover, likely patrol lanes and the distance to both extraction choices.
- Search containers in short groups, then pause to listen. Do not chain every search animation while standing in the same exposed position.
- Turn back when your bag contains the items that justify the risk. A full bag is not the goal if the return path is unsafe.
Keep a retreat lane
Before you fire, know which doorway, rock, wall or elevation change you will use to break line of sight. Solo players cannot rely on a teammate to draw attention or revive them from a second angle. If you cannot name a retreat route, reposition before opening the fight.
Sound and stamina are resources, not conveniences
Container searches take several seconds and make noise. Sprinting drains stamina, while walking, crouching and standing still restore it. Sliding after a sprint does not consume stamina, and holstering a weapon increases running speed. These details turn movement into a resource-management system.
Use a three-part stamina rhythm
- Travel: Holster your weapon when the route is safe and use the faster run speed to cover open ground.
- Approach: Walk or crouch near containers, patrol routes and likely player approaches so you arrive with stamina available.
- Break contact: Keep a reserve large enough for one uninterrupted sprint to hard cover. Do not spend the last segment of stamina reaching a container.
After a sprint, a slide can carry you through a dangerous gap without consuming additional stamina. It is useful for crossing the final few meters to cover, not as a reason to sprint everywhere. If you hear a machine or another Raider while searching, cancel the search, move to cover and let stamina recover before deciding whether to fight.
Choose fights by armor penetration
Do not judge a target only by size or distance. Ping or scan threats, identify whether your weapon can damage the target efficiently, and spend ammunition on fights that improve your route. A weapon that clears small machines quickly may be a poor answer to ARC armor.

Weapons for machine-heavy raids
The Epic guide identifies Ferro and Hullcracker as strong machine-killing choices. It also warns that Kettle, Stitcher and Bobcat struggle more against ARC armor. That does not make the latter weapons unusable; it means you should not build a solo plan around them for armored targets unless you have a specific reason and enough ammunition to compensate.
Match the weapon to the target
- Small ARC threats: Use an efficient weapon that can clear Pops and Ticks without consuming the ammunition reserved for an armored machine.
- Flying threats and Fireballs: Ferro is recommended in the budget farming build because it can handle these targets while remaining practical for general travel.
- Large ARC targets: Hullcracker is the recommended answer for Matriarch, Bombardier and Bastion in the higher-end build. Fight from cover and kite rather than standing in the open.
- Human Raiders: In the standard queue, do not expose yourself to a machine fight that announces your position unless the route or reward justifies the risk.
Carry sustain tools and protect your recovery window
Solo healing is about buying time, not merely restoring a number. Bandages restore health over time, so use them behind cover rather than in the middle of a machine’s line of fire. Shield rechargers restore shield energy and should be used when you have enough separation to complete the recharge. A Defibrillator revives a downed Raider faster than holding the interaction button; when you are alone, that faster recovery can be the difference between surviving a knockdown and losing the raid.
Reserve inventory space for healing and recovery before collecting low-value materials. If you fill every slot with loot, you may have to abandon a useful sustain item at the exact moment a second engagement begins.
Best solo loadouts for different risk levels
There is no single best solo loadout. The right setup depends on the ARC armor you expect, the map, how much ammunition and crafting material you can replace, and how much risk you are willing to accept before extraction.

Budget PvE farmer: Ferro + Rattler
The community build guide lists Ferro plus Rattler with Looting Mk.1 as an inexpensive farming setup. Ferro handles flying ARC threats and Fireballs; Rattler clears Pops and Ticks. The recommendation is aimed at Dam Battlegrounds and Buried City, with an explicit warning to avoid elite enemies and leave safely rather than turning a cheap raid into an expensive recovery attempt.
This build is strongest when you use the weapons to maintain momentum. Clear only the machines blocking your route, search nearby resource areas, and extract before your ammunition or stamina reserve disappears. It is not designed to prove that you can defeat every elite encounter.
Higher-end ARC killer: Hullcracker + Bettina
For large ARC targets, the guide lists Hullcracker plus Bettina with Combat Mk.3. Hullcracker is assigned to Matriarch, Bombardier and Bastion; Bettina handles additional small targets and medium threats. The setup costs more and invites higher-value fights, so the tactical rule is stricter: establish cover first, kite around it, and avoid standing in the open while firing.

Use this loadout only when the target is worth the ammunition, healing and time. If the fight pulls you away from both extraction options, disengage. A large machine can be a successful objective even when you decide not to finish it, because forcing it to move may open a safer route around the area.

The current community framework uses 76 base skill points. Its priority order is Mobility first, followed by Conditioning and Survival as your needs dictate.
1. Mobility for every solo build
Mobility reduces stamina pressure and improves sprint recovery, vaulting and dodging. The guide calls Marathon Runner and Youthful Lungs top priorities. These are valuable in every raid because movement is both your escape tool and your way to reach cover before a machine’s attack lands.
2. Conditioning for carrying and breaching
Conditioning adds carry weight and breaching utility. Choose it when you routinely extract because your inventory is full, or when your route depends on opening access points quickly. Extra carry capacity is useful only if you still reserve room for healing and ammunition.
3. Survival for long, quiet raids
Survival improves looting speed, stealth and field crafting. It is the natural next step for players who spend more time searching resource areas than fighting large targets. Faster searches reduce the time you make noise beside a container; stealth helps you cross a route without creating a fight; field crafting supports a raid that lasts longer than expected.

Do not spread points evenly simply because every branch offers a benefit. Mobility solves the most common solo failure first: being caught without the stamina or movement options needed to disengage.
Free Loadouts are a deliberate farming tool
Free Loadouts provide low-tier gear and limited ammunition without risking an expensive custom kit. They are useful for learning a map, checking an extraction route or farming when your inventory cannot absorb another costly loss. The trade-offs are fewer inventory slots and no Safe Pockets.

Use a Free Loadout when the objective is information or low-risk materials. Do not treat it as equivalent to a custom build for an armored ARC encounter. Because you have fewer slots and no Safe Pockets, the cost of dying is concentrated in what you carried during that raid.
How to extract safely when you are alone
- Set a leave condition before the raid. Decide whether you are leaving after a key material, a certain number of containers or a specific machine component. This prevents a successful run from becoming a greedy one.
- Check the route back while you still have stamina. Listen for ARC patrols, avoid crossing open ground with an empty stamina bar and keep your weapon ready before approaching the extraction area.
- Prefer a Raider Hatch when its key is part of your plan. It is safer than an ordinary extraction, but it is not a universal emergency exit because it requires a key.
- Trigger ordinary extraction from cover where possible. The alarm is loud and the site is patrolled. Start it only when you can defend the approach or disengage to a nearby fallback position.
- Leave before the bag is full if the return is dangerous. A solo death loses carried equipment except Safe Pocket contents. The marginal value of one more container is usually lower than the value of banking what you already have.
A complete solo raid routine
Before deployment
- Choose standard PvPvE or the temporary PvE test according to whether you value normal loot and conditions or a no-player-damage environment.
- Select a weapon pair that matches the expected ARC armor. Use Ferro + Rattler for low-cost farming or Hullcracker + Bettina for large targets.
- Equip an augment that supports the objective: Looting Mk.1 for inexpensive farming or Combat Mk.3 for the higher-end ARC build.
- Reserve inventory slots for ammunition, bandages, shield rechargers and recovery tools before packing optional loot capacity.
During the raid
- Move from shallow resource areas toward deeper ones only after checking an exit route.
- Holster while travelling safely, then slow down near containers and patrol lanes.
- Ping or scan before committing to a fight and avoid targets your weapon handles poorly.
- After every engagement, reload, restore shield or health, listen for third parties and reassess the route.
At the decision point
Ask three questions: Can I reach extraction with a stamina reserve? Do I still have enough ammunition and healing for one more contact? Is the next reward worth exposing the equipment already in my bag? If any answer is no, leave.
Settings for solo play: calibrate instead of copying numbers
No canonical source establishes universal graphics, sensitivity, audio or controller values for ARC Raiders. Any fixed numerical preset presented as the best setting would be personal preference, not a verified standard. Configure the game around four measurable goals: stable frame delivery, clear visibility, readable audio cues and controls that make essential actions reachable.
Graphics and display
- Favor a frame rate you can hold consistently over a higher but unstable peak.
- Adjust brightness and contrast until dark cover, machine silhouettes and extraction approaches remain distinguishable without washing out the scene.
- Use the display mode and resolution that keep aiming responsive on your hardware; change one option at a time so you know which setting affected clarity or frame pacing.
Audio
- Keep machine attacks, movement and container-search sounds distinct from music and interface effects.
- Use headphones if they let you identify direction more reliably, but do not assume a particular headset or mix is universally superior.
- Test audio during a quiet section of a map, then verify that the alarm at an extraction point is unmistakable.
Mouse, keyboard and controller
- Place sprint, crouch, slide, ping and inventory actions where you can reach them without releasing movement.
- Choose a sensitivity that lets you track a moving ARC target without overcorrecting; make small changes and test them against both a nearby small machine and a distant threat.
- Check that the button used for crouch or slide cannot be triggered accidentally during a long sprint, because an unintended movement can expose you.
The best setting is the one that makes a threat visible, a sound identifiable and an escape action immediate on your own display and input device. There is no published performance benchmark or universal settings statistic to justify a single numeric recommendation.

Is ARC Raiders playable solo?
Yes. Embark says players can go alone or in squads of up to three, and matchmaking is designed to prioritize solo-versus-solo and squad-versus-squad in the standard experience.
Does the PvE toggle remove all danger?
No. It removes player-to-player damage during the October 13–20, 2026 test, but ARC machines, extraction alarms, patrols, lower overall loot value and the omitted conditions still shape the raid.
What is the best cheap solo loadout?
