The fastest way to progress in ARC Raiders is to treat extraction—not combat or a full backpack—as the objective. Enter with a cheap, purposeful loadout, complete one or two nearby goals, keep stamina and inventory space for the escape, and leave as soon as your quest item or key materials are secure. Loot only becomes useful after you extract.

This guide covers the temporary PvE matchmaking test active October 13–20, 2026, as well as the normal PvPvE game. It explains what to carry, how to choose a route, when to fight, how to extract safely, what happens when you are downed or die, and which early upgrades make later raids more forgiving.

What counts as a win in ARC Raiders?

ARC Raiders is an extraction adventure set on a lethal future Earth where mechanized ARC machines and other Raiders threaten every run. You deploy, search the surface for salvage, quest items and crafting materials, then return to an active extraction point. The run succeeds only when you leave with the items in your secured inventory.

A large haul is worthless if you die before extraction. Conversely, a short raid that returns with a required quest item, a Raider Hatch Key or an important workshop material can be a major success. Plan the exit before you open your first container, and make every decision against four questions:

  • Survival margin: Do you have enough healing, shields, ammunition and stamina to disengage?
  • Mobility: Is your pack light enough to reach extraction quickly?
  • Objective value: Does the next room advance a quest, workshop upgrade or immediate survival need?
  • Loss exposure: How painful would this particular death be?

These criteria are more useful than chasing a fixed number of kills or filling every slot. The best beginner route is the one that returns consistently.

How the October 2026 PvE test changes your decisions

As of October 17, 2026, Embark’s temporary PvE matchmaking toggle is scheduled to run through October 20. It removes player-to-player damage and mixes solo, duo and trio players. ARC machines remain dangerous, the mode lowers overall PvE loot value, and it is not a permanent mode. Night Raid, Locked Gate, Hidden Bunker, Frigate and Redirection are excluded while the toggle is active.

PvE is therefore a practice environment, not a risk-free farming shortcut. Use it to learn landmarks, extraction routes, ARC attack patterns and quest locations. The reduced loot value makes it less suitable when your only goal is maximum credits, while the absence of Raider damage gives you more room to learn positioning.

Downed-state behavior still matters. During the test, an ARC enemy can reacquire a downed player after an eight-second grace period if that player moves. If you are downed and waiting for help, staying still until the grace period has passed is safer than crawling into the open.

Embark reported that 37% of players preferred friendly co-op, 27% preferred mixed play and 34% preferred pure PvP; 51% of the surveyed player base expressed interest in a dedicated PvE option. Those figures explain why the test exists, but they do not guarantee that a permanent PvE mode will follow. Executive Producer Aleks stated on September 24, 2026: “This test is not a promise that there will be a PvE mode in the future.”

Prepare a beginner raid before deployment

1. Pick overlapping objectives

Open the quest board and select one or two objectives that can be completed along the same route. Early quests direct you toward particular areas and provide a clear reason to enter them. Avoid accepting several objectives scattered across the map; distance and extra travel create more opportunities to run out of stamina, ammunition or time.

2. Use a cheap learning kit

Start with a Free Loadout, or an equivalently inexpensive kit, while you learn. It supplies a main weapon, ammunition, bandages, a shield recharger and utility items, so an unsuccessful raid does not consume your best equipment. Move to more expensive gear only after you can regularly extract with basic supplies intact.

3. Pack for survival, not maximum firepower

A simple ranged weapon handles distant ARC targets, while a close-range backup helps when an enemy reaches cover or a room. Carry two ammunition stacks, one health kit and one gadget. Keep roughly 30% of your inventory capacity open for salvage; beginning with a full pack forces you to discard useful items or turn around before the objective is complete.

4. Protect irreplaceable items

Place rare loot, Raider Hatch Keys, quest items and expensive crafting materials in the Safe Pocket as soon as you find them, when the item is eligible. This protects the most difficult-to-replace progress if the raid ends badly. Do not recycle a quest item until the associated quest is complete.

5. Check the cost of failure

Before deploying, ask whether the current objective justifies the equipment you are carrying. A new route should use a low-cost kit and a modest goal. A high-value key or rare material may justify more healing and ammunition, but it should also trigger an earlier extraction decision rather than a longer stay.

Choose a route that gives you an exit

Start with one nearby point of interest

Move first to a nearby point of interest instead of crossing the map for a single container. Learn one safe approach, identify hard cover and note the quickest path away. Once you know that loop, add a second location only when the first has produced the quest item or material you need.

Find extraction early

Extraction pads rotate between deployments. Locate an active pad near the beginning of the raid and keep a second exit in mind in case the first is contested or unreachable. Knowing both routes prevents a late search while overloaded or injured.

Build a return route, not just an arrival route

On the way in, notice slopes, doorways, rocks and other cover that can break line of sight. On the way out, use the same landmarks in reverse and avoid unexplored buildings unless the objective requires them. A familiar route saves more time than a slightly richer but unknown detour.

Leave when the objective is complete

Once you have the quest item or the workshop material you came for, stop treating nearby containers as mandatory. Every additional room consumes time, healing and ammunition. Greed is most dangerous when the pack is already heavy and the extraction path is still ahead.

Manage weight, stamina and inventory space

Encumbrance slows movement and increases stamina pressure. That combination makes it harder to sprint between cover, climb away from an ARC patrol or reach the extraction countdown. Keep the weapon holstered while traveling when the area is safe, and draw it before entering a likely engagement.

Use a simple priority order when the pack fills:

  1. Keep quest items, Raider Hatch Keys and rare or expensive materials in the Safe Pocket when possible.
  2. Retain ammunition, healing and shield supplies needed to reach extraction.
  3. Keep materials that directly feed your next workshop or Gunsmith upgrade.
  4. Drop low-value scrap before dropping an objective item or a survival resource.

Containers and corpses can still grant experience even when you are full. Open them for the experience if doing so is safe, then take only items that advance the current quest, your next upgrade or your immediate escape plan.

When to fight ARC machines and rival Raiders

Bypass is often the correct combat decision

ARC patrols and Raider encounters create noise and can attract follow-up danger. A fight that yields no quest progress may cost more ammunition, healing and time than the loot is worth. Move around patrols when terrain allows, use cover to break sight lines and avoid firing merely because an enemy is visible.

Fight for a reason

Engage when an enemy blocks the only safe route, carries something needed, or must be removed to make extraction possible. Start from cover, keep an escape direction open and avoid entering a room without knowing where you will retreat. After a fight, reload and heal before moving into the next area; arriving at extraction with an empty magazine is a preventable failure.

Understand the difference between PvE and normal raids

During the temporary PvE test, other players cannot damage you, but ARC enemies and the extraction problem remain. In ordinary PvPvE sessions, every other Raider is a potential threat even if the first encounter appears friendly; the official game description explicitly includes Raiders preying on one another. Do not expose your route, extraction timing or low-health state unnecessarily.

Extract safely with a full bag

Arrive prepared for the countdown

Reach the pad with enough stamina, healing and ammunition to survive the extraction countdown. Do not sprint into the area exhausted. Approach using cover, check nearby angles and start the sequence only when you can defend or disengage.

Use a backup exit

If another player or an ARC patrol controls the first pad, do not repeatedly challenge the same position. Rotate to the second extraction you identified earlier. A smaller haul that leaves the map is better than losing everything at a contested pad.

Drop scrap before risking the haul

If encumbrance prevents a fast retreat, discard low-value scrap. Restoring movement and stamina is worth more than preserving every common item. Never let a nearly full pack force you into a fight you could have avoided.

React correctly when downed in the PvE test

If an ARC downs you, remain still during the eight-second grace period unless remaining in place is immediately lethal. Moving can allow the ARC to reacquire you. A teammate should approach only after checking the enemy’s position and preparing a safe revive; a rushed rescue can create a second down.

What happens when you die with loot?

Items that are not secured before extraction are at risk when the raid ends in death. That is why the Safe Pocket should hold your most important keys, quest items and expensive materials as soon as you find them. A Free Loadout limits the equipment cost of failure, but it does not turn an unsuccessful run into a successful extraction.

After a death, replace only what the next objective requires. Re-enter with a cheap kit, repeat the shortest route you know and rebuild healing, ammunition and workshop materials before attempting a high-risk area. Treat the first recovery raid as a reset, not as an excuse to spend your best gear trying to recover everything at once.

Convert extracted loot into progression

Complete initial quests first

Early quests provide direction and unlock progression. Finish the initial objectives before pursuing rare upgrades in distant or dangerous areas. The reward is not only the quest completion itself: the route teaches the locations and extraction paths you will reuse later.

Build the Gunsmith and workshop

After quests, prioritize Gunsmith construction and facility upgrades. These systems unlock better gear and recipes, making future mistakes less punishing. Recycle nonessential items to supply crafting and upgrades, but keep anything tied to an unfinished quest.

Stock healing before chasing luxury gear

A reliable supply of healing should come before an expensive weapon or a speculative upgrade. Healing extends the number of mistakes you can survive and gives you more options at extraction. Once your healing stockpile is stable, add ammunition and workshop materials through short, low-risk raids.

Invest in mobility and utility

Early mobility and utility upgrades improve repositioning, extraction access and recovery from mistakes. They increase the number of routes you can safely use rather than improving only one damage scenario. Select the option that addresses your most common failure: arriving exhausted, being unable to disengage, or lacking a tool for the objective.

Loadout choices by learning goal

Goal Recommended approach What to protect When to leave
Learn a new map area Free or inexpensive kit with a ranged weapon, backup, two ammo stacks, health kit and one gadget Quest items and Safe Pocket items After one nearby point of interest and a confirmed extraction route
Complete an early quest Carry only the supplies needed for the objective and reserve about 30% capacity The quest item and enough healing to return Immediately after securing the objective
Gather workshop materials Use a light pack and bypass fights that do not guard required materials Materials for the next upgrade plus escape supplies When the next upgrade’s materials are secured
Practice combat in the PvE test Use inexpensive equipment and fight selectively while learning ARC behavior Any rare item found during practice When healing, ammunition or stamina no longer support a safe retreat

Solo, duo and trio habits

Solo

Solo players should favor short loops, quiet movement and a nearby extraction. Do not enter a fight that requires a revive or assumes a teammate can cover the retreat. Keep one escape direction open at all times.

Duo

Agree on the objective and extraction before deployment. One player can watch an approach while the other searches, but both should preserve enough stamina and ammunition for the return. If one player is downed, clear the immediate threat before attempting a revive.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Trio

A trio has more combat capacity but also creates more noise and consumes more supplies. Stay close enough to support a downed teammate without clustering in the same doorway. Assign one player to watch the route during searches and call the withdrawal when the objective is complete.

Common beginner mistakes and fixes

“I filled my pack and could not escape.”

Reserve about 30% capacity before deployment, then drop low-value scrap as soon as encumbrance threatens your movement. A lighter pack protects the entire haul.

“I fought every patrol and ran out of healing.”

Bypass enemies that do not block the objective or extraction. Fighting is a tool for access and safety, not a requirement for every room.

“I reached extraction with no stamina.”

Holster your weapon while traveling through safe areas, avoid unnecessary sprinting and leave before the bag becomes heavy. Keep stamina for the final approach and countdown.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

“I lost the item I needed for progression.”

Move eligible quest items, Raider Hatch Keys and expensive crafting materials into the Safe Pocket immediately. Do not recycle quest items before completion.

“The PvE test felt safe, so I stayed too long.”

PvE removes player damage but not ARC danger, encumbrance or extraction pressure. Use the test to learn routes and quests, then leave on the same schedule you would use in a normal raid.

“I crawled after being downed and was reacquired.”

During the current test, moving after the eight-second grace period can let an ARC reacquire you. Stay still while downed when the position is survivable, and let a teammate create a safe revive opportunity.

A repeatable progression loop

  1. Choose one or two nearby quest objectives.
  2. Deploy with an inexpensive kit and about 30% open capacity.
  3. Find an active extraction and note a backup.
  4. Reach one point of interest, bypassing fights that do not advance the plan.
  5. Secure the quest item or workshop material and protect it in the Safe Pocket when possible.
  6. Drop low-value scrap if weight threatens movement.
  7. Extract before healing, ammunition or stamina become critical.
  8. Complete the quest, recycle nonessential loot and fund Gunsmith or facility upgrades.
  9. Repeat short raids until healing, ammunition and workshop materials are stable, then increase route difficulty.

This loop builds map knowledge and permanent progression without requiring every raid to be profitable. Once extraction is routine, you can extend routes, carry more valuable equipment and accept greater loss exposure deliberately rather than by accident.
