Use field crafting for an urgent item, recycle during a raid only when immediate materials justify losing extraction value, and defer most breakdowns to Speranza when you can safely carry the loot home. ARC Raiders separates making improvised gear from dismantling loot, and the best choice depends on the item’s material return, quest and recipe uses, sale value, rarity, and your current workshop needs.
This guide explains the three systems, a repeatable keep/sell/recycle decision, the Battery example that shows why “junk” labels can mislead, and the Frozen Trail research-bench change that affects how you pursue blueprints.
Crafting, recycling, and salvaging are different actions
Loot becomes useful in ARC Raiders through three distinct activities. Field crafting combines resources you gathered Topside into an improvised item while you are still on a raid. Recycling breaks an existing item into components. The same recycling action can be performed in the field or after you return to Speranza, but the timing changes the risk and, according to current guidance, usually changes the amount you receive.

Do not assume that every workshop recipe is available in the field. Field crafting is specifically for improvised items made from resources you currently hold; workshop progression and other station recipes remain separate decisions.

How to craft items during a raid
Embark’s Help Center defines the system plainly: “Field crafting lets you combine resources you collect Topside to create improvised items on the go.” That makes it an emergency and opportunity tool rather than a reason to spend every material as soon as you find it.
- Open Inventory. Use the inventory screen while your character is safe enough to manage equipment.
- Select the Crafting tab. This is where the game displays recipes available to your character.
- Review the recipe list. Check the required resources and the resulting item before committing materials.
- Apply the affordability filter. The official help guidance says the inventory can filter for recipes affordable with the materials you currently hold.
- Craft only for a defined need. Make the healing, defensive, ammunition, or utility item that improves the current raid, rather than converting materials that are reserved for a station, quest, or known recipe.
What the field-crafting filter does—and does not do
The affordability filter answers one narrow question: which displayed recipes can you pay for now. It does not establish that a recipe is the best use of those resources, that the item is needed for your loadout, or that the recipe exists at every crafting station. Check the resulting item’s role against your extraction plan before spending anything.
How to recycle loot while Topside
Field recycling is available during a raid. It is useful when a damaged, duplicate, or low-value item is taking space and its components solve an immediate problem.

- Highlight the item in your inventory.
- Open the item’s details. The details screen exposes the actions available for that item.
- Choose “Recycle.” Confirm only after checking the listed output and deciding that you no longer need the intact item.
- Use the materials deliberately. Spend the return on an immediate craft only when that craft improves your survival or extraction odds.
Recycling is destructive: the original weapon, component, or loot item is gone after confirmation. If you can carry it out and do not need its materials before extraction, leaving it intact preserves more options.

Why recycling at Speranza is usually the safer default
A current recycling guide updated October 4, 2026, describes field recycling as yielding about half of the components available from recycling at Speranza. The exact return is item-specific; some item records state a 50 percent return, while broad guidance uses “about half.” Treat those figures as guidance, not a universal guarantee for every object or patch.

The choice is therefore not “always recycle” or “never recycle.” It is a trade between guaranteed access now and a potentially better return later. Extraction risk matters: a full return at Speranza is worthless if the item is lost on the way out, while a lower field return can be correct when it enables the action that gets you home.
A keep, sell, or recycle decision that works item by item
Run this checklist before confirming any breakdown or sale.

If a quest asks for the item itself or for a specific delivery, keep it intact. A component return does not satisfy an item requirement unless the quest explicitly accepts that component.
- Check station and workshop upgrades. Materials needed for a near-term upgrade can be more valuable than the item’s sale price, but do not destroy a quest item to obtain them.
- Check recipe uses. Search the item’s recipe list, not just its recycling output. An object that returns one common component may still be required in several high-value recipes.
- Check your loadout. A duplicate weapon may be disposable, while the only example of a useful weapon tier or attachment should remain available even if its recycling return looks attractive.
- Check sale value. Selling an intact item can be the better choice when you need currency and its components are plentiful. Recycling and selling are not interchangeable: one supplies materials, the other supplies money.
- Check the timing. If the material is not needed in this raid, preserve the intact item and decide at Speranza, where the cited guidance indicates a better return.
- Check the replacement cost. Before recycling a weapon or tool, make sure you can replace it without consuming rarer materials or losing a future quest opportunity.
How to use rarity as a starting rule
One current guide suggests recycling unwanted common weapons and keeping uncommon or higher-rarity examples. That is a practical starting rule, not an official game law. A common weapon may still be required for a quest, a recipe, a station upgrade, or a preferred loadout; a higher-rarity item may be expendable if you have a replacement and urgently need its components. Apply the checklist above before using rarity as the deciding factor.

The Battery example: inspect both sides of an item
The Battery entry in an item database illustrates why a one-word label such as “junk” is unreliable. Its listed recycling output is Metal Parts, but the same entry also lists Batteries as ingredients for the Energy Clip, Medium Shield, and Jolt Mine recipes.

Use this two-sided inspection for every uncertain item: first identify what it becomes when recycled, then identify what it enables while intact. The more recipes an item supports, the more expensive an impulsive breakdown can be.
Field recycling versus extraction: a practical raid workflow
Before you deploy
- Decide which workshop, station, or recipe you are saving materials for.
- Know which quest items must survive the raid.
- Leave enough inventory space for valuable finds instead of planning to recycle everything on contact.
- Identify a minimum emergency reserve of healing, defensive, or utility items so field crafting does not consume every resource you collect.
While Topside
- Use the Crafting tab and affordability filter only when an immediate item changes your survival or extraction odds.
- When an item is a candidate for recycling, open its details and read the output before confirming.
- Recycle immediately if the material enables a necessary craft, frees critical carry space, or prevents an otherwise likely loss.
- Carry the item intact when you have space, no urgent material requirement, and a realistic extraction route.
After extraction
- Review every carried item at Speranza rather than dismantling from memory.
- Compare the base return with the item’s quest, recipe, upgrade, sale, and loadout roles.
- Mark or reserve items needed for your next planned craft before recycling duplicates.
- Only then convert the remaining loot into components or currency.
How workshop progression changes the value of loot
Your material priorities change as soon as a station upgrade, quest turn-in, or recipe becomes available. Early in a progression path, a component that appears common may be the bottleneck for a required upgrade. Later, the same component may be abundant while a particular intact item becomes scarce.

- Protect active quest items and anything required for a confirmed near-term objective.
- Reserve ingredients for the next craft or upgrade you can actually use.
- Keep a functional loadout and one practical replacement where losing the item would force an expensive rebuild.
- Recycle duplicates whose outputs solve a current material shortage.
- Sell intact surplus when currency, rather than components, is your limiting resource.
This order is intentionally conditional. There is no universal “best” material because the value of a Battery, weapon, or utility item depends on what your account can craft and what the next raid requires.

GamesRadar+ reported on September 24, 2026, that the Frozen Trail update introduced a research bench. According to the report, found items can contain research points that you direct toward selected research, including some blueprints, rather than relying only on random blueprint finds.
“Instead of necessarily having to just chase RNG to get the blueprint you want, there is a system that is called research, where you can find items in the world that contain a number of research points, and using those, you can actually choose which research that you want to have, and that includes a number of blueprints as well,” said Aleksander Grøndal, executive producer, as quoted by GamesRadar+.

The report describes the feature but does not establish the current point costs or the complete list of blueprint unlocks. Open the research bench in your current build to verify eligibility, costs, and which items provide points before you recycle a potentially useful find. A material that seems disposable may contribute to a chosen research path, while an item with no relevant research role can be evaluated normally against its recipe and recycling output.

Patch-sensitive details you should verify in game
ARC Raiders’ crafting and item data can change with updates. The official field-crafting support article is dated October 27, 2025. A crafting guide published September 5, 2026, reports verification for Trials Season 5 and patch 1.44.0, while the recycling guide was updated October 4, 2026. These dates explain why a menu, yield, or recipe seen in an older video may not match your current build.
- Open the item’s current details screen before recycling.
- Confirm the displayed output instead of relying on a remembered percentage.
- Check the current recipe list for the intact item.
- Look at the research bench after updates that change progression or blueprints.
- Do not generalize one item’s 50 percent return to every item.
Common mistakes and how to recover
Recycling a quest item
If you have already broken down an item required by a quest, stop spending the returned components and review the quest’s current objective. You may need to find the item again; the materials themselves generally do not replace an intact-item requirement.
Crafting because the filter says you can
Affordability is not priority. Reopen your planned upgrade or quest objective, reserve those materials, and craft only what improves the present raid.
Using the field return as a fixed percentage
About half is a broad description, not a guarantee. Read the item-specific output and treat any database percentage as tied to that item and its current version.
Keeping every high-rarity weapon
Rarity is a useful first filter, but duplicates, replacement availability, quest requirements, and current loadout needs can outweigh it. Keep the example that serves a purpose; do not let color alone fill your storage.
Destroying a recipe ingredient for one component
Compare the component return with every recipe that consumes the intact item. The Battery’s Metal Parts output is less informative than its combined role in Energy Clip, Medium Shield, and Jolt Mine recipes.
A concise decision rule
Keep an item when a quest, recipe, upgrade, research path, or loadout needs the intact object. Sell it when currency is your constraint and its material output is not urgent. Recycle at Speranza when you can extract safely and want the better cited return. Recycle in the field only when immediate materials, carry space, or survival justify giving up the intact item and the larger potential base return.
