For a US buyer, neither plan is universally “better.” AppleCare+ is the relevant protection for Apple’s iPhone Duo, while Samsung Care+ is the manufacturer plan for eligible Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip phones. Both advertise unlimited accidental-damage repairs, but Samsung’s Theft and Loss tier allows up to three lost, stolen, or unrecoverable claims in a consecutive 12-month period, compared with up to two theft or loss incidents per 12 months under AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss.
The practical winner depends on your phone, whether theft protection matters, the quoted premium and service fee, and how each plan treats your specific foldable’s inner display, hinge and other components. Apple’s published US iPhone fee schedule is useful as a reference, but Apple has not established in the available material that iPhone Duo uses those same fees.
The short answer
Choose AppleCare+ if you are buying the iPhone Duo and want Apple’s repair and support network. Choose Samsung Care+ if you are buying a Galaxy Z Fold or Z Flip and want Samsung-authorized repairs, mechanical-breakdown coverage and the option of up to three Theft and Loss claims in a rolling 12-month period.

Do not compare the plans using only their monthly or one-time premium. A foldable claim can involve an inner screen, outer screen, hinge, frame or camera module, and the fee for “other accidental damage” may be much higher than a screen-only fee. Before paying, obtain the quote for your exact model, storage configuration, country and plan tier, then read the exclusions and claim limits shown at checkout.

What each plan is designed to cover
AppleCare+ for iPhone Duo
Apple introduced iPhone Duo on September 9, 2026, describing it as its first foldable iPhone. The phone has a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch outer display. Apple’s October 15, 2026 update says customers in markets where the service is offered can select AppleCare+ or AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss for iPhone Duo.
Apple’s legal AppleCare description says AppleCare+ includes “unlimited incidents of accidental damage per device covered.” The separate Theft and Loss tier provides up to two incidents of theft or loss every 12 months. Those are plan-level descriptions; the iPhone Duo’s final contract, eligibility rules, service fees and covered components control the claim.
Samsung Care+ for Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip
Samsung Care+ is the manufacturer protection program for eligible Galaxy phones, including Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip models. Samsung’s US support description advertises “Unlimited Repairs for Accidental Damage from Handling,” mechanical-breakdown support, genuine Samsung parts, certified technicians and 24/7 expert support.

Accidental damage: the most important comparison
Both manufacturers advertise unlimited accidental-damage incidents. “Unlimited” does not mean every repair is free or that every claim is automatically accepted. You still pay the applicable service fee, and the administrator can apply exclusions, documentation requirements and claim-approval rules.
What the wording means for a foldable
Foldables create several possible damage categories. A cracked cover display may be treated differently from damage to the large inner panel. A bent frame, damaged hinge, liquid exposure or a camera module broken in the same event may fall under an “other accidental damage” category rather than a screen-only category. The public descriptions do not establish one universal fee for every iPhone Duo, Z Fold or Z Flip component.

When you compare quotes, ask which category applies to each of these situations:

- Cracked or unresponsive inner display.
- Cracked outer display or back glass.
- Hinge damage, looseness or a phone that will not open or close correctly.
- Frame damage that prevents the phone from folding or sealing normally.
- Liquid exposure, if the plan treats it as accidental damage or excludes it.
- Multiple damaged parts from one incident.
Do not infer coverage from a marketing phrase alone. The manufacturer’s terms for your model determine whether a damaged hinge is repaired, replaced as part of a full-device claim, or excluded as a condition that developed over time.
Theft and loss: Samsung has the larger stated allowance
If theft or loss is a major concern, Samsung has the more generous published claim count: up to three lost, stolen or unrecoverable claims in a consecutive 12-month period for its US Theft and Loss tier. AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss states up to two theft or loss incidents every 12 months.
These limits are not interchangeable. Samsung’s wording combines lost, stolen and unrecoverable events into one allowance. Apple’s wording refers to theft or loss incidents. In either case, you must follow the plan’s reporting, account, device-lock and claim procedures. A plan can deny a claim if the required information or security steps are missing.
When Theft and Loss is worth considering
The extra tier is most defensible when replacing the phone without insurance would create a serious financial problem, when you regularly travel or work in crowded places, or when you have previously lost or had a phone stolen. If you rarely leave home with the device and could replace it from savings, accidental-damage-only coverage may be the lower-cost choice.
Compare the total annualized premium with the replacement obligation, not simply the number of claims. A plan with a higher claim allowance can still cost more than its value if its premium and theft/loss service fee are high for your model.

Mechanical failure and warranty-type problems
Samsung explicitly advertises mechanical-breakdown coverage in Care+ descriptions. That is important for a foldable because a hinge, display connection or other component can fail without an obvious drop.
The available Apple wording confirms additional hardware service and technical support and highlights unlimited accidental-damage incidents, but it does not establish the complete iPhone Duo mechanical-failure treatment. Check the iPhone Duo AppleCare+ terms for failures that occur without accidental damage, including any interaction with Apple’s standard hardware warranty and any exclusions for wear, cosmetic damage or unauthorized modification.
Fees and premiums: what is known and what is not
Apple’s published US reference fees
Apple’s US AppleCare fee schedule lists these iPhone amounts:

Samsung pricing
Samsung states that Care+ pricing depends on device MSRP. The available information does not provide a complete, same-country table of premiums or model-specific deductibles for Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip phones. Obtain the quote for the exact device and select whether the Theft and Loss tier is included before comparing totals with Apple.
A simple value calculation
Use this worksheet for each plan:
- Write down the total premium for the period you expect to keep the phone.
- Add the service fee for the damage type you are most likely to claim.
- For Theft and Loss, add the stated replacement or claim fee and check the maximum number of claims.
- Compare that total with the cost of an out-of-pocket repair or replacement for your exact model.
- Subtract any value you place on included technical support, certified parts and authorized service.
This calculation does not predict whether you will make a claim. It simply prevents a low screen fee from hiding a much higher full-device or theft/loss cost.

Service experience and logistics
Samsung highlights same-day replacement in its service messaging, along with 24/7 expert support. Same-day availability depends on location, inventory, the type of event and approval of the claim; it is not a guarantee for every city or model.
Apple emphasizes Apple repair and support channels and AppleCare service benefits. Actual turnaround depends on the market, local repair capability, replacement inventory and whether the device can be repaired or must be replaced.
For either plan, back up the phone before sending it for service, remove accessories that are not part of the claim, and keep the claim number and shipping or appointment records. Those are practical safeguards rather than promises that a particular repair route will be available.

Choose AppleCare+ for iPhone Duo when
- You are buying the iPhone Duo and want Apple-authorized service.
- You prefer Apple’s support channels and can accept the iPhone Duo premium and fees shown at purchase.
- You want Theft and Loss protection and two annual incidents are sufficient for your risk profile.
- Your priority is accidental-damage protection and the iPhone Duo terms clearly cover the components you are concerned about.
Choose Samsung Care+ for a Galaxy Z Fold or Z Flip when
- You own an eligible Galaxy foldable and want Samsung’s repair network.
- Mechanical-breakdown coverage is important to you.
- You value the stated allowance of up to three lost, stolen or unrecoverable claims in a consecutive 12-month period.
- You want genuine Samsung parts, certified technicians and the advertised 24/7 expert-support option.
Skip the Theft and Loss tier when
You have a reliable way to replace a lost phone, rarely carry it in high-risk environments, and the added premium plus claim fee exceeds the financial risk you are prepared to accept. Keep accidental-damage coverage only if its repair economics make sense for your device.
Enrollment and purchase checklist
Availability, enrollment timing and pricing vary by country and device. Before completing enrollment, verify each item on the manufacturer’s current checkout and terms pages:
- Confirm that your exact foldable model and region are eligible.
- Check the deadline for adding coverage and whether the device must pass a condition check.
- Record the recurring or one-time premium and the payment duration.
- Read the service fee for screen, back-glass, other accidental damage and Theft and Loss claims.
- Confirm whether inner-display, hinge, frame and liquid-related damage have special rules.
- Check the annual or rolling claim limit and whether multiple event types share one allowance.
- Read the mechanical-breakdown section and exclusions for wear, cosmetic damage, modification and failure to follow security requirements.
- Save the terms, receipt, serial number and proof of purchase.
Common mistakes that lead to a bad decision
Assuming every “screen” has the same fee
A foldable has at least two displays, and the inner panel can require a different repair process from the outer panel. Ask for the fee category for each display before relying on a screen-only amount.

A phone that stops folding without being dropped is not the same event as accidental damage. Samsung explicitly advertises mechanical-breakdown coverage; obtain the corresponding iPhone Duo treatment from Apple’s terms rather than assuming the plans match.
Bottom-line decision
For the iPhone Duo, AppleCare+ is the natural choice because it is Apple’s own protection plan and is offered for the device in available markets. For Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip phones, Samsung Care+ is the direct fit and has the clearer published position on mechanical breakdown and a higher Theft and Loss claim allowance.
There is no defensible universal winner on price. Apple’s published US iPhone fees cannot yet be applied automatically to iPhone Duo, while Samsung’s premium and fees are model-dependent. Buy the plan whose exact quote, inner-screen and hinge treatment, mechanical-failure terms and Theft and Loss limit match how you use the phone.
