If Apex Legends keeps crashing randomly on Windows 11, start with a restart and an outage check, then repair the game files. Next, update Windows and your graphics driver, test for background-app interference, and adjust frame pacing. Use Easy Anti-Cheat instructions only if you see a matching Anti-Cheat error. A crash is a symptom, not a diagnosis, so work through these steps before considering hardware replacement.
Before troubleshooting, record what happens
Write down the exact error text or code, whether Apex closes to the desktop or freezes, and what you were doing when the crash occurred. Note whether it began after a Windows update or graphics-driver change, and whether other demanding games crash too. This information helps distinguish a game-file, driver, background-software, or broader system problem.
- Restart Apex Legends and your PC.
- Check EA’s live service-status and support route for a current issue before changing local settings.
- Close other applications and test the game again.
Repair Apex Legends’ game files
Damaged or inconsistent installation files can cause crashes. EA’s guidance for Apex_crash.txt points players toward crash troubleshooting and game-file repair; it also associates r5apex.exe with a possible installation inconsistency.

- Open the EA app and select Library.
- Find Apex Legends and select Manage.
- Choose Repair, then launch the game after the process finishes.
Steam
If you installed Apex through Steam, use Steam’s current game-file verification or repair feature for the game. The EA instructions linked below document the EA app route, not a current Steam menu path.

Install Windows and graphics-driver updates
Install available Windows updates, then check for a graphics driver from the manufacturer of your GPU. EA advises using the card manufacturer’s driver instructions and says a clean driver installation may be worth considering when troubleshooting graphics issues. There is no single driver version established as a universal fix for random Apex crashes.
If crashes began immediately after a driver change, record that timing and consult your GPU manufacturer’s current rollback instructions rather than guessing which driver to install. EA’s PC graphics troubleshooting guide covers driver and graphics checks.

Test whether background software is interfering
Close background applications and retest Apex. If the crashes continue, a Windows clean boot can help isolate whether a background task is interfering. A clean boot is a diagnostic test, not a permanent fix.
- Follow Microsoft’s current instructions for performing a clean boot in Windows.
- Test Apex in that state.
- If the game stops crashing, re-enable services and startup items methodically, testing between changes, to identify the conflict.
Do not uninstall antivirus software as a blanket troubleshooting step. For the DirectX installation error covered in EA’s error guidance, EA specifically does not recommend that approach.
Adjust graphics and frame pacing as tests
If your PC is close to Apex’s minimum system requirements, lower selected graphics settings and see whether the crashes change. EA also recommends testing a frame-rate cap or V-Sync, which can match frame output to your display’s refresh rate.

- Change one setting at a time so you can tell whether it affects the problem.
- Try a frame-rate cap or V-Sync, then play long enough to see whether the crash recurs.
- Do not assume one cap or graphics preset is right for every PC; these are diagnostic options, not guaranteed fixes.
EA’s general PC crashing and freezing guidance also recommends closing background apps, clean-boot troubleshooting, repairing game files, and trying a frame-rate cap or V-Sync.

If the displayed message identifies Easy Anti-Cheat or its runtime-integrity check, follow EA’s instructions for that exact error. EA says a runtime-integrity problem may involve a corrupted file and recommends repairing Apex. Its error-code 30005 guidance includes repairing the game files and a specific Easy Anti-Cheat service-file step followed by restarting the PC.
Because these steps are error-specific, use the current instructions in EA’s error-code guide. Do not delete Anti-Cheat files for an ordinary crash with no matching error.

If Apex still crashes, collect details before escalating
If repair, updates, background-app isolation, and any relevant error-specific steps have not helped, keep a concise record for EA support or the community:
- Exact error text or code, including whether an
Apex_crash.txtorr5apex.exemessage appears. - Whether the game freezes or closes, and what was happening at the time.
- When the problem began and any recent Windows or graphics-driver changes.
- Your GPU model and graphics-driver version.
- Whether other demanding games crash as well.
EA directs players with unresolved or unlisted errors to its support and community channels. Reinstalling Apex or the EA app is a later option in EA’s general guidance, after the lower-impact repair and troubleshooting steps.
A random crash alone does not establish that a GPU, RAM module, power supply, or other component needs replacement. Diagnose the software and error path first; consider hardware only if further evidence points to a specific limitation or fault.
