Anthropic paused distribution of its free Claude Team year and one-time $1,000 API credit on October 9, 2026, just three days after announcing an expanded Claude Startups program. The company says application volume exceeded its capacity and it is re-reviewing applications. If you already claimed an offer, Anthropic says you can keep using it; an approval for an offer you had not claimed may change during review.
What changed between October 6 and October 9?
On October 6, Anthropic announced an expanded Claude Startups program offering eligible companies up to $7,000 in Claude products and credits. The package was one year of Claude Team with up to five Premium seats for companies new to Team, plus a one-time $1,000 API credit. Anthropic calculated the $7,000 maximum using five Premium seats at $100 per seat per month, billed annually, plus the API credit; a startup’s actual value depends on its number and type of seats. The launch announcement described eligibility as startups founded within the previous five years or funded within the previous two years. Anthropic’s October 6 announcement
By October 9, Anthropic had paused distribution of both headline offers: the Claude Team year and the $1,000 API credit. Its current FAQ, accessed October 11, says it received “hundreds of thousands of applications over the past few days” and is over capacity for those offers. Anthropic says all applications will be re-reviewed and that some application statuses may change. Anthropic’s Claude Startups FAQ

The same report quoted Anthropic startup marketing lead Sarah Wolf saying the program received 21 times as many applications in its first 48 hours as in the previous five months combined. That comparison is attributed to Wolf through secondary reporting; it is not an independently audited application count. Tech City Authority’s October 9 report

Does an earlier approval still mean you get the offer?
Not necessarily. Anthropic’s FAQ makes the key distinction between offers already claimed and offers that have not been claimed. It says members who already claimed an offer may continue using it. Because Anthropic is re-reviewing applications and says some statuses may change, a prior approval alone does not guarantee an unclaimed offer.
| Your situation | What Anthropic says |
|---|---|
| You claimed the offer | You may continue using it, according to the current FAQ. |
| You were approved but had not claimed it | Your status may change during re-review; the FAQ does not guarantee the offer. |
| Your application is still pending or its status changed | Check your account and Anthropic’s messages for your individual status. |
Anthropic has not said how many applicants will lose an unclaimed offer, nor whether a particular unclaimed applicant will qualify after review. Its account notices are the reliable place to check your own case.

Which Claude Startups benefits remain available?
As of October 11, Anthropic says existing program members retain access to the Startup Stack, Applied AI office hours, and events. The Startup Stack consists of offers from third-party providers, which Anthropic says can be redeemed through Claude Console and are governed by each provider’s terms. The program page describes categories including software development, data analytics, AI audio, design, and meeting tools; the list and terms can change. Claude Startups program page

Startups backed by a VC in Anthropic’s partner network may be eligible for up to $100,000 in additional API credits through that VC, a separate conditional offer—not a general replacement for the paused credit. Has Anthropic said when the offers will return?
No restart date or final revised review criteria are stated on Anthropic’s FAQ as accessed October 11, 2026. The offers are paused, not described as permanently canceled. Founders should avoid treating an earlier approval as a guarantee and check their Claude Startups account and Anthropic’s messages for updates about their own application.
