The Anko ATM203W is a discontinued, 203 L top-mount fridge-freezer aimed at small spaces, but its basic layout and reported difficulty balancing fridge and freezer temperatures are important trade-offs. CHOICE lists an exact-model review, but its detailed test results and rating are available only to members, so public evidence does not support a performance score or a claim that the model passed or failed specific tests.
What the Anko ATM203W is
The ATM203W is a white, extra-small top-mount refrigerator-freezer with a claimed total capacity of 203 L. CHOICE lists 143 L for the refrigerator and 60 L for the freezer, and marks the model discontinued. Its listing gives the country of origin as China and identifies a right-side hinge.
CHOICE’s exact-model page labels 2022 as the test year, but restricts the Expert Rating and detailed measures to members. Its public specifications are useful for identifying the appliance; they are not a substitute for the unavailable test results.

Temperature control is the main concern in the public coverage
In its first-look article, last updated 17 February 2022, CHOICE whitegoods expert Ashley Iredale said the ATM203W uses one temperature control to set the cooling going to the freezer. CHOICE reported that this design can make it difficult to get suitable temperatures in both compartments. This is a reported observation from that article, not an independently replicated test result in the public evidence available here.

That distinction matters: the exact-model CHOICE page does not expose its detailed performance measurements. There is no public score here to use as proof of temperature stability, cooling speed, food preservation, or any other tested outcome.
Is it a sensible size for your needs?
CHOICE’s February 2022 guidance described the 203 L model as a possible fit for a small studio, office or secondary fridge when storage needs are modest. The same article cited 250–380 L as a suggested range for a one- or two-person household. Treat that as a dated expert recommendation, not a universal capacity rule: actual needs depend on shopping habits, how often you cook, and whether this is your only refrigerator.

- More plausible use: a compact space, office, or backup role where limited storage is acceptable.
- Less suitable use: a main household fridge if you need flexible storage, humidity control, a dairy compartment, or independent adjustment of the two compartments.
Energy use and old price figures
The two CHOICE energy figures should not be merged. The current exact-model listing gives 3 stars and claimed use of 272 kWh/year, while CHOICE’s 17 February 2022 article reported 240 kWh/year on the label at that time. The sources do not explain the discrepancy, so neither number should be presented as a definitive current measurement.

CHOICE lists A$429 as a historical price. The 2022 first look gave A$429 for white and A$449 for silver before delivery. That article also reported delivery charges of about A$50 in metro areas and A$100 regionally, without unpacking, installation or old-unit removal in the described Kmart offer. These are historical retail terms, not current quotes or evidence of present availability.
What to check before buying a used ATM203W
Because CHOICE marks the model discontinued, a specific unit’s condition and support matter more than historical retail information. Before paying, check the appliance itself and confirm details directly with the seller or relevant service provider.

- Verify the model and serial information on the actual appliance.
- Inspect the cabinet, shelves, door seals, hinges, crisper and interior for damage or missing parts.
- Ask how it was transported and whether it has been kept upright since moving.
- Check that it cools properly in both compartments; a general refrigerator thermometer can help you observe temperatures, but is not a model-specific fix.
- Measure the route into the room, the installation area and door-swing clearance—not only the appliance footprint.
- Ask whether any warranty could still apply to that unit and verify eligibility rather than assuming it transfers.
- Contact local repair providers about whether they service this model and can obtain parts; the manual does not establish current parts availability or service arrangements.
The sources do not establish current second-hand stock or resale prices, so assess any asking price against the unit’s condition and the cost of delivery or repair rather than relying on its old listed price.

Installation and first use
The Kmart manual says the ATM203W is freestanding only, not designed for recessed or built-in installation. It calls for a dry, sturdy, level floor; at least 10 cm of clearance at the back and sides; 30 cm overhead; and enough space on the hinge side for the door swing. The stated ambient operating range is 16–38°C. The manual recommends two or more people for moving and installation.

- Leave the refrigerator still for two hours before plugging it in, as directed by the manual’s quick-start guide.
- Let it run for two to three hours before adding food, or at least four hours in hot summer conditions.
- Set the control according to the manual: it ranges from COLD (1) to SUPER COOL (5), with 2–3 described as normal for most situations and 5 as a quicker-cooling setting.
- Consult the complete manual for the particular appliance before use or maintenance.
The manual identifies its R600a isobutane refrigerant as flammable. It says servicing that opens covers must be done by an authorised service person; it also includes additional Queensland authorization language for relevant work on hydrocarbon refrigerants. Do not treat refrigerant-system work as a casual DIY repair.
Verdict: a basic compact option, but only with clear expectations
The ATM203W’s public specifications describe a small, uncomplicated fridge-freezer, and CHOICE’s dated guidance suggests it may suit a studio, office or secondary role. The reported single-control temperature-balancing issue, sparse storage features, discontinued status and unavailable public test score make it difficult to recommend as a confident choice for a primary household fridge. For a used unit, verify cooling, fit, condition and local repair options before buying.
