An Anker power bank can fail in two different ways: it may not accept power from a wall charger, or it may be charged but fail to power your phone or another device. Those symptoms involve different ports and different tests. Identify which one you have before changing accessories or attempting a reset.
Use a known-good outlet, compatible cable, and suitable charger for the exact model. Confirm the port’s role from the label or manual, because Anker power banks do not all use their USB ports the same way. If the basic checks fail, contact Anker Support with the model number and a record of what you tested.
First determine what “not charging” means
Before troubleshooting, describe the failure precisely. Is the power bank’s own battery percentage or indicator failing to increase when connected to a wall charger? That is an input or recharge problem. Or does the bank appear charged but fail to power a phone, earbuds, watch, speaker, or another accessory? That is an output problem.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems| Symptom | Charging path to test | Start with |
|---|---|---|
| The bank will not recharge | Wall outlet → wall charger → cable → power-bank input port | Another outlet, a known-working compatible cable, and another compatible charger |
| The bank will not charge a device | Power-bank battery → output port → cable → device | A known-working cable, a second device, and the correct output port |
A cable or adapter can work in one situation and fail in another, so do not assume that an accessory that charges your phone is suitable for every power-bank port. Likewise, a USB-C connector does not by itself tell you whether a particular port is input, output, or both.

Also note what the bank does when connected. An indicator that never illuminates, an indicator that stays unchanged, and an indicator that briefly responds and then stops can point to different parts of the chain, but they are not a diagnosis by themselves. Record the behavior and continue with controlled substitutions instead of interpreting one light as proof of a particular internal fault.
If the Anker power bank will not recharge itself
Follow the substitutions in a controlled order. Change one part at a time so you can identify which component changes the result. Anker’s support guidance for general power-bank and 10K-series charging issues recommends checking the outlet, cable, and charger rather than immediately concluding that the battery pack has failed.
- Try a different wall outlet. Plug the charger into another outlet that you know supplies power. This rules out a switched, loose, or failed outlet without changing the rest of your setup. If you were using a power strip, test a wall outlet directly so the strip is not another unknown.
- Use a known-working compatible cable. Inspect both connectors for bent parts, contamination, or looseness, then substitute a cable that successfully charges another compatible device. The connector must match the power bank’s input port, and a cable’s physical fit does not prove that it is suitable for that model.
- Try another compatible wall charger. Use an adapter that the model’s manual or label identifies as acceptable. Do not apply a universal wattage rule to the entire Anker range; input limits and supported charging methods vary by model.
- Confirm the input port. Read the markings next to the ports and check the exact model number against its manual or Anker Support page. Some banks have separate input-only and output-only ports, while others may assign different functions to USB-C, Micro-USB, or USB-A.
- Reconnect and observe the result. After each substitution, leave the connection in place long enough for the bank’s normal charging indication to respond. If one specific outlet, cable, or charger works, the replaced item is the likely fault rather than proof that the bank is defective.
These swaps isolate possible faults; they do not certify the battery pack as healthy. If a suitable charger, known-good cable, and alternate outlet all produce the same failure, stop cycling through random adapters. Record the exact model, the input port used, and the accessories tested for a support request.
Why charger wattage cannot be guessed
There is no single charger rating that applies to every Anker power bank. The acceptable input can depend on the model, connector, and charging circuitry. A higher-rated adapter is not automatically a fix, and a lower-rated one may be unsuitable or simply charge more slowly. Use the specification printed on the bank or in the model-specific manual; if that information is unavailable, ask Anker Support before buying a replacement adapter.
What a successful recharge test tells you
If the bank begins charging with the second outlet, cable, or adapter, keep the working combination separate while you identify the failed item. For example, if only the second cable works with both chargers and outlets, replace the original cable. If both cables work from one outlet but not another, investigate the outlet or its power strip. If no combination works, the fault may be inside the bank or in an unverified compatibility issue, which requires model-specific support rather than a guessed repair.
Do not use a successful result with one setup to assume that every port is now functional. A bank can accept input through one designated connector while another connector has a different role. Verify the port assignment before moving the cable, and note whether the indicator behavior changes when you use the documented input port.

If the power bank will not charge a connected device
For an output failure, begin with the bank’s available charge and then test the entire path to the device. Anker’s PowerCore troubleshooting guidance recommends trying a known-working cable and another device. This separates a problem with the bank from a problem with the original phone, accessory, or cable.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Check that the bank has charge. Use the bank’s normal indicator or display and, if necessary, recharge it using the input procedure for that model. A depleted bank cannot provide output, even when the connected device and cable are working.
- Substitute a known-working cable. Use a cable that reliably charges the same type of device from another source. Check that both ends are fully inserted; do not force a connector that does not fit smoothly.
- Try a second device. Test another phone or accessory with the same cable and output port. If the second device works, investigate the first device’s port, settings, or battery rather than treating the bank as the only suspect.
- Verify the selected port is an output. Read the port labels and the manual for the exact model. A port that accepts power for recharging the bank may not supply power to a connected device.
- Test one variable at a time. Keep the bank and cable fixed while changing the device, then keep the device fixed while changing the cable or port. This prevents a faulty accessory from masking a working output.
If the bank powers one device but not another, the result is evidence about compatibility or the device-side connection, not proof that the bank is universally healthy. Conversely, if no device works with a known-good cable on a confirmed output port, document that result before contacting support.
When a device starts and stops charging, check whether the cable is loose at either end and whether the device’s connector is obstructed. Repeat the test with the bank resting on a stable surface so movement is not intermittently breaking contact. These observations help support distinguish a connection problem from a repeatable output failure.
Port functions differ by model
Never infer a port’s direction solely from its connector shape. Anker assigns ports differently across its range, and using an input-only port for output can look exactly like a dead battery pack.
| Example | Port assignment documented by Anker | Practical implication |
|---|---|---|
| 313 Power Bank, model A1229 | USB-A charges connected devices; USB-C and Micro-USB recharge the power bank | Plugging a phone into the USB-C or Micro-USB port will not provide output on this model |
| Other Anker models | Assignment varies; the exact manual or port markings control | Check the model before choosing a cable, charger, or reset procedure |
The A1229 example is not a template for every Anker bank. Some products may have a USB-C port with a different role, multiple output ports, or a display that labels functions in another way. Locate the model number on the case or packaging, then use the documentation for that exact product.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
When comparing replacement cables or adapters, use three criteria: the connector and port must match the exact bank, the charger’s input support must agree with the model’s label or manual, and the item should first be treated as a diagnostic swap rather than a guaranteed permanent fix. A USB-C cable is a sensible test only when the bank actually specifies USB-C input or output for that port.

Low-current devices may need a model-specific trickle mode
Earbuds, small speakers, watches, and similar accessories can draw less current than a phone. An output system may stop or fail to start when it does not detect the expected load. Anker documents a low-current, or trickle-charging, mode for certain products, but the activation method is not universal.
For the 313 Power Bank A1229, Anker’s support instructions say to press the power button twice until the first LED turns green, then connect the low-powered device. Use that sequence only for the model and behavior described in its documentation. Do not assume that pressing the button twice, waiting for a green LED, or using any other shortcut activates low-current mode on a different Anker bank.
If a low-power accessory still does not charge, repeat the output checks with a known-good cable and another device. A trickle mode cannot compensate for a damaged cable, an input-only port, or an empty bank. If a phone charges but a watch does not, that contrast is a reason to check the model’s low-current instructions, not to keep repeating a reset.
Resets are not universal
A reset can clear a control-state problem, but the correct procedure depends on the product. Anker’s general power-bank and 10K-series support pages describe a reset for certain models by connecting one end of a cable to an input port and the other end to an output port for three to five seconds. That instruction applies only where the model’s documentation specifies it.
Anker also publishes separate troubleshooting instructions for the 737 Power Bank. Its reset method should be followed from the 737 documentation rather than substituted with the procedure for another product. Port layouts and electrical behavior differ, so do not force a cable into a port or create an improvised connection if the manual shows a different arrangement.
Attempt a documented reset only after testing the outlet, charger, cable, device, and port as appropriate to your symptom. A reset is not a replacement for a compatible charger, and it cannot repair a damaged connector or internal battery. If the manual does not describe a reset, skip this step and provide support with the results of the basic tests.

This record also helps distinguish an intermittent accessory from a repeatable bank failure. Avoid changing several accessories at once unless you are only trying to establish whether any known-good combination works. Take a clear photo of the model label if the printed code is difficult to read, and include that code exactly in your support message.
When to contact Anker Support
Contact Anker Support when a suitable charger, known-working cable, and alternate outlet do not allow the bank to recharge, or when a known-good cable and a second device still fail on a confirmed output port. Anker’s troubleshooting guidance for the 535 Power Bank and 313 Power Bank directs users to support when the recommended checks do not resolve the problem.
Include the model number and your diagnostic record. State whether the bank fails to accept a charge or fails to deliver one, identify the ports involved, and list the alternate outlet, cable, charger, and device you tried. Mention any model-specific reset or trickle-mode step and its result. This is more useful than reporting only that the power bank is “not charging.”
Do not open the casing, replace internal cells, or attempt a self-made battery repair. If the unit is physically damaged, discontinue use and ask Anker about the appropriate service or replacement path.
Common mistakes that prolong the problem
- Assuming every USB-C port is output. The A1229 313 Power Bank, for example, uses USB-C and Micro-USB for recharging the bank while USB-A supplies connected devices.
- Buying a charger by wattage alone. Compatibility is determined by the exact model’s documented input requirements, not a universal number.
- Repeating a reset from another model. A procedure that is valid for one product can be inappropriate for another.
- Testing only the original device. A second device reveals whether the fault follows the bank or stays with the first device.
- Changing cable, charger, outlet, and device simultaneously. That may produce a temporary result but leaves you unable to identify the failed component.
- Forcing a connector or improvising a port connection. Stop if the cable does not fit normally and consult the model documentation.
- Treating an indicator as a complete diagnosis. Lights and displays show status, but the outlet, cable, charger, device, and port still need to be tested as a chain.
A concise decision path
- Label the symptom as either “the bank will not recharge” or “the bank will not charge a device.”
- For recharge failure, substitute the outlet, compatible cable, and compatible wall charger in that order, then verify the model’s input port.
- For output failure, check the bank’s charge, use a known-good cable, test another device, and verify the selected port is an output.
- If the accessory is a low-current device, check whether the exact model documents a trickle mode; use only that model’s activation steps.
- After the basic checks, perform a reset only if the exact manual or support page specifies one.
- If the failure persists, send Anker Support the model number and the complete list of tests rather than opening the bank or guessing at a repair.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my Anker power bank not charging from the wall?
Test another wall outlet, a known-working compatible cable, and another compatible wall charger, one at a time. Confirm that you are using the model’s documented input port. If all three substitutions fail, record the model and tests and contact Anker Support.

Why does my Anker power bank charge itself but not my phone?
Check the bank’s remaining charge, try a known-working cable, test a second device, and confirm that the selected port supplies output on your exact model. Some models reserve USB-C or Micro-USB for input only; the 313 A1229, for example, uses USB-A for device output.
How do I reset an Anker power bank?
There is no universal reset. Certain models use a three-to-five-second cable connection between an input and output port, while other models, including the 737, have separate instructions. Follow the manual or Anker Support page for the exact model and never force a connector.
Why will my Anker power bank charge my phone but not my earbuds or watch?
Low-current accessories may require a model-specific trickle-charging mode. On the 313 A1229, Anker says to press the button twice until the first LED turns green. Use that sequence only if your exact model documents it, then retest with a known-good cable.
What should I tell Anker Support if troubleshooting fails?
Provide the complete model number, say whether the failure is input or output, identify the port used, and list the outlet, charger, cable, and second device you tested. Include the result of any documented reset or low-current-mode procedure.
The Bottom Line
Separate an input failure from an output failure, then test the relevant path with a different outlet, compatible charger, known-good cable, second device, and correctly identified port. Port roles, charger requirements, trickle modes, and resets vary by Anker model. If the documented checks do not restore charging, stop improvising and give Anker Support the model number and your test record.
