Choose the exact charger model, not the Nano or Prime name. Anker’s Nano line includes compact single-port chargers as well as multi-port units, while Prime models generally target higher total output and simultaneous charging. A 45W Nano can be ideal for one phone, tablet or compatible laptop; a Prime model becomes more useful when several devices must share power or when your setup needs more than 100W. Before buying, match your device’s input requirement and protocol, count the ports you will use at the same time, and check the model’s power-distribution table.

The figures below are Anker manufacturer specifications, not independent charging tests. Actual output depends on the connected device, cable, protocol and how many ports are occupied.

Nano and Prime are product families, not fixed specifications

“Nano” and “Prime” do not identify one standard wattage, port count or size. Anker’s current U.S. USB-C charger collection shows Nano examples from 30W to 70W and Prime examples from 100W to 250W. Those ranges describe the listed collection at the time of access, not a permanent rule for every future model. Check the model number and its product page before relying on a label.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A useful starting distinction is design intent. Nano models often emphasize a small wall-charger footprint, especially at lower wattages, but Nano also includes multi-port products. Prime models provide higher ceilings and more elaborate multi-device power allocation, although a particular Prime charger may still have fewer ports than another Prime model. The comparison therefore has to be made model by model.

Which charger fits your setup?

Choose a Nano single-port model for one main device

A single-port Nano is the simplest choice when you normally charge one device at a time and want a small wall charger. The 45W Nano example is rated for up to 45W, has folding prongs and weighs 75 g, making its physical profile relevant for a travel kit or a limited outlet. It can suit a phone, tablet, handheld console or a laptop that accepts USB-C power within that range.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not infer compatibility from the 45W label alone. A laptop may require a particular USB Power Delivery profile, and a phone may accept less than the charger’s ceiling. The charger cannot make a device draw more power than the device and protocol permit.

Choose a Nano multi-port model when you need a few outlets in a compact unit

The 70W Nano example adds two USB-C ports and one USB-A port. It is a practical middle ground for a phone-and-tablet bag, a laptop plus accessories, or a shared bedside outlet where three connections are occasionally useful. Its 70W rating is the charger’s combined maximum; it is not 70W available independently from each port.

Because the 70W model is larger than the cited 45W single-port unit (53 × 42.6 × 31.5 mm versus 34 × 35.5 × 40 mm), compare the actual dimensions with your outlet, travel pouch and neighboring plugs rather than assuming every Nano is equally tiny.

Choose the Prime 100W model for a three-port desk or travel setup

The Prime 100W has two USB-C ports and one USB-A port. Anker lists up to 100W when one or two ports are in use and up to 89W when all three are active. That makes it a candidate for a USB-C laptop alongside a phone and a smaller accessory, provided the allocation meets the devices’ needs.

The reduction to 89W with three ports occupied is important for a laptop user: plugging in a third device can change the power available to the laptop. Read the model’s output table before deciding which port will carry the highest-draw device.

Choose a high-output Prime model for several demanding devices

The Prime 250W provides four USB-C ports and two USB-A ports, with up to 250W total. Anker specifies up to 240W when two ports are used and up to 250W when three are used. Six physical ports make it suited to a shared desk, multiple laptops and tablets, or a workstation where replacing several adapters with one unit is valuable.

Its LCD display and control dial can help you monitor and manage a busy setup. They are features of this model, not requirements or defining characteristics of every Prime charger. More ports also mean more opportunities to exceed a device’s cable or protocol limits, so plan the connections before plugging everything in.

How power sharing changes the decision

A multi-port charger has one power budget. When additional devices are connected, the charger may redistribute that budget according to its internal allocation rules. A 70W, 100W or 250W label therefore describes the total available output under specified conditions, not a promise of that wattage on every occupied port.

  1. List each device’s maximum supported input. Use the device maker’s specifications or the label on the original adapter. Record whether the device expects USB-C Power Delivery, PPS or another charging mode.
  2. Identify the highest-draw device. This is usually a laptop, tablet or other large battery-powered device. It should be assigned a USB-C port whose single- or multi-port rating meets its requirement.
  3. Count the ports you will actually occupy. Include low-power accessories. On the Prime 100W, for example, moving from two active ports to three changes the stated combined maximum from 100W to up to 89W.
  4. Read the model-specific distribution table. Do not substitute a distribution pattern from another Nano or Prime charger. Similar port counts do not guarantee similar allocations.
  5. Leave headroom for the device and cable. The charger’s maximum is a ceiling. A device, cable or protocol with a lower limit becomes the practical ceiling.

If a laptop reports slow charging after you connect a phone or accessory, disconnect the extra load and check the charger’s allocation table. If normal charging returns, the shared-output behavior—not a failed charger—is the likely explanation.

Portability, outlet fit and desk usability

Compare dimensions and weight, not just the family name

The cited 45W Nano measures 34 × 35.5 × 40 mm and weighs 75 g, with folding prongs. The 70W Nano measures 53 × 42.6 × 31.5 mm. These are materially different shapes, and neither dimension should be generalized to all Nano products. The Prime examples in the cited material do not state dimensions or weight, so evaluate their listing directly if bag space or a crowded outlet matters.

For travel, check whether the plug folds, whether the charger blocks adjacent outlets and whether your cable can reach the device without bending sharply. For a desk, consider whether a display or control interface is worth the extra hardware and whether six ports reduce adapter clutter enough to justify a larger unit.

Decide whether feedback controls matter

The Prime 250W’s LCD and control dial are useful when several devices share one charger and you want visible output information. A display does not increase the charger’s electrical capacity, and the presence of a display on one Nano product does not mean every Nano includes one. Treat feedback as a workflow feature, separate from wattage and port count.

Cable and protocol checks before you buy

Charging performance depends on the complete chain: charger, cable, device and negotiated protocol. Anker’s Prime 100W listing says a cable is not included and recommends an E-Marker cable for optimal 100W charging. An E-Marker cable is therefore part of the budget and packing list if you expect a compatible device to use the charger’s highest USB-C output.

The 45W Nano support material also identifies output and PPS information, but a device still has to support the relevant profile to use it. A charger advertised at 45W, 100W or 250W will not override a phone or laptop’s own input limit. Confirm the required voltage, current and protocol in the device documentation, then select a cable rated for that level.

  • Use an E-Marker cable when the setup calls for 100W-class USB-C charging, as Anker recommends for the Prime 100W.
  • Do not assume a USB-A cable can deliver the same power or protocol as a USB-C connection.
  • If charging is slower than expected, test with the original device cable or another cable whose rating is known before replacing the charger.

These checks prevent a common mistake: buying a higher-output adapter while keeping a cable that limits the negotiated power.

A step-by-step buying method

  1. Write down the exact devices. Include laptops, phones, tablets, watches, earbuds, cameras and USB-powered accessories that you may charge at the same time.
  2. Record each device’s input requirement. Note maximum wattage, USB-C or USB-A connector, and any required charging protocol. If the manufacturer lists several modes, use the one supported by your cable and charger.
  3. Choose the minimum useful port count. One device points toward a single-port Nano; two or three simultaneous connections may fit the 70W Nano or Prime 100W; a larger collection may justify the six-port Prime 250W.
  4. Check the simultaneous-output row. Compare the charger’s allocation for the number of ports you will occupy, not only the headline wattage.
  5. Check physical constraints. Compare dimensions, weight, folding-prong design, display controls and the location of your wall outlet or power strip.
  6. Verify cables. Confirm that every high-draw connection uses a cable rated for the intended output. Remember that the Prime 100W listing does not include a cable.
  7. Recheck the exact model before ordering. Product families contain several generations and layouts. Save the product page or model number so you can compare the delivered unit with the specification you selected.

Common mistakes and how to correct them

Assuming every Nano is a tiny one-port charger

The 70W Nano has three ports and a different footprint from the 45W single-port example. Correct the assumption by checking port photographs and the specification table for the model number.

Assuming every Prime supplies its headline wattage to every device

Prime ratings describe total or conditional output. The 100W model lists up to 89W with all three ports in use, while the 250W model lists specific two-port and three-port limits. Use those rows to plan the load.

Using an unrated or underspecified cable

A cable can become the bottleneck even when the charger and device support higher output. Replace it with a cable rated for the required wattage; for optimal 100W charging on the Prime 100W, follow Anker’s E-Marker recommendation.

Comparing only wattage

Wattage does not tell you whether the charger fits your outlet, has enough ports, supports the device’s protocol or includes a cable. Compare those attributes together.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Expecting a charger to force faster charging

The device controls what it accepts during negotiation. A higher-rated adapter can provide headroom, but it cannot make an incompatible device charge at the charger’s maximum.

What the available specifications do—and do not—prove

The linked pages establish model-level wattage, ports, dimensions, weight or controls where listed. They do not provide an independent, cross-range test of charging speed, heat, durability or long-term battery effects. Anker also notes that actual charging can vary with device and usage conditions. Treat the figures as selection specifications, then judge real-world charging by the behavior of your own device and cable.

Lineups, stock and regional availability can change. The examples here are drawn from Anker’s U.S. pages and support material accessed in 2026; verify the current listing, model number and distribution table for your region before purchase.

Decision guide

Your situation Most sensible starting point Why Check before buying
One phone, tablet or modest USB-C laptop at a time Nano single-port model such as the 45W example Small, light form factor with enough ceiling for compatible devices in this class. Device input, protocol and cable rating.
One laptop plus a phone or accessory Nano 70W or Prime 100W, depending on required laptop power Both provide three physical ports, but their total output and allocation differ. Exact simultaneous-use table and physical size.
Several USB-C and USB-A devices at a desk Prime 250W six-port model Four USB-C and two USB-A ports provide a larger shared budget, with output information on the LCD. Combined load, cable ratings and outlet capacity.
Frequent travel with minimal luggage The smallest exact model that meets your device requirement Portability depends on dimensions, weight and plug design, not the Nano or Prime name. Measured size, folding prongs, neighboring-outlet clearance and required ports.

The practical answer is conditional: pick Nano when the exact model gives you the needed output and a compact form; pick Prime when its specific port layout and allocation solve a multi-device or higher-draw problem. In either case, the device, protocol and cable determine how much of the advertised capacity you can actually use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I charge USB-A and USB-C devices at the same time?

Yes, on models that provide both connector types, such as the 70W Nano, Prime 100W and Prime 250W examples. The available total is shared, so consult that model’s simultaneous-use output rather than treating each port as an independent full-power supply.

Does the 45W rating mean my laptop will always receive 45W?

No. Forty-five watts is the charger’s maximum. Your laptop must support the negotiated USB-C profile, and the cable must be rated for the required output; the device may draw less.

Is the Prime 250W always better than a Nano?

No. Its six-port capacity is useful only if your devices need that many connections or a larger shared budget. A smaller Nano is more appropriate when portability and one-device charging are the priorities.

What should I do if charging slows when I connect another device?

Check the charger’s allocation table for the new port combination, then disconnect the extra device and retest. If the original charging behavior returns, the shared-output limit is functioning as specified.
