In Anime Zero, weapon “awakening” usually means using the Evolution menu to evolve a weapon and unlock its fourth skill, the ultimate. “Evolution” is the name used for the in-game area and its NPC, while “awakening” describes the resulting upgraded kit. “Weapon upgrading” is a broader, informal phrase for making equipment stronger and does not automatically mean this ultimate-unlock process.
The reliable test is simple: select the weapon in the Evolution panel. If the panel shows a requirement list and an Evolve action, you are looking at the awakening/evolution route for that weapon. The exact materials, currency, and number of stages depend on the weapon and can change with updates.
Evolution, awakening and upgrading are not interchangeable
Players often use the three words as if they describe one system. In practice, the terms answer different questions:

This distinction matters because owning a weapon is not enough to grant its ultimate. A weapon can be equipped and used with its basic attack and first three skills while the fourth skill remains locked until the required evolution is completed.

What changes when you evolve a weapon?
The ultimate becomes available
Guides describe the normal pre-evolution kit as a basic attack plus three skills. The fourth skill is the ultimate and starts locked. Completing the weapon’s evolution is the step that opens it. The change is therefore functional: you gain access to a part of the weapon’s moveset that ownership alone does not provide.
Do not assume every evolution grants the same stat change
The available descriptions establish the ultimate unlock, but they do not establish a universal list of attack, defense, cooldown or rarity increases for every weapon. Read the live weapon panel for any additional effect shown there. If a guide gives a recipe or stage description that is not visible in your game, treat the in-game panel as the current authority rather than assuming the older description still applies.
The requirement list is weapon-specific
There is no single material recipe that applies to every weapon. Examples mentioned in guides include Fine Cloth, Magic Pendants and items tied to a particular weapon or game mode. A recipe may also include currency or several rows below the first visible screen. Select the exact weapon and scroll through the entire panel before deciding that you have everything.
Why can I use three skills but not my ultimate?
That pattern is normal for an unevolved weapon. The first three skills belong to the weapon’s initial kit; the fourth is gated behind Evolution. Equipping the weapon, obtaining it from a banner or completing another general progression step does not by itself satisfy the Evolution requirement.
Open the weapon’s Evolution entry and check its state. If the panel still shows missing items or a disabled Evolve control, the ultimate remains locked. Once every listed requirement is accepted and the evolution completes, return to the weapon’s skill display and confirm that the fourth skill is no longer locked.
Where do you evolve weapons in Anime Zero?
The route uses the dedicated Evolution area and its NPC, not a generic inventory upgrade control.
- Open Areas from the game’s main navigation.
- Select the Evolution area.
- Speak to the Evolution NPC.
- Choose the weapon you want to advance.
- Read the complete requirement list, including rows below the initial view.
- Compare each row with the items and currency in your inventory.
- Open the relevant stage or mode reward preview to identify where a missing drop comes from.
- Farm the missing materials, return to the NPC and use Evolve.
If the menu shows several weapons, check the name and icon carefully before submitting materials. Completing one weapon’s recipe does not complete another weapon’s recipe, even when the two appear similar.

How to read an Evolution requirement list
Inspect every row, not only the first visible items
Some menus place additional requirements beneath the first screenful. Scroll to the bottom and record each material, quantity and currency requirement. A weapon can appear nearly complete while one unseen row is still missing.
Separate materials from currency
Material drops and currency are different checks. Having enough Fine Cloth or Magic Pendants does not prove that the currency requirement is met, and having the currency does not replace a missing drop. Treat every row as an independent condition.
Use the reward preview before farming
For an item you lack, inspect the reward preview for the relevant stage or mode. This tells you whether the drop is associated with content you can currently enter and helps avoid spending time in a mode that cannot award the required item. The preview is also useful when an item name is similar to another drop.
Recheck after an update
Recipe tables in community guides are snapshots. Coverage and currency costs can differ between weapons, and an update can change a requirement or reward route. Before a long farming session, compare the guide’s claim with the current Evolution panel in your game.

Why is the Evolve button still locked?
Use this checklist in order instead of farming the same item repeatedly:
- Wrong weapon selected: return to the NPC and verify the weapon’s name and icon.
- Unseen requirement: scroll the complete panel; a row below the first screen may still be incomplete.
- Only one row completed: each material and currency row must be satisfied. One green or completed row does not finish the recipe.
- Insufficient currency: check the currency line separately from item drops.
- Wrong reward route: confirm the missing item’s stage or mode in the reward preview rather than relying on a similar-sounding drop.
- Multi-stage weapon: determine whether the weapon uses the ordinary one-step route or a staged path such as Shadow Monarch’s Monarch Path.
After correcting the missing condition, leave and reopen the weapon entry if the display does not refresh immediately. If every visible requirement is met but the action remains unavailable, reselect the weapon and inspect the panel again; the practical diagnostic is still the live list shown by the Evolution NPC.

Do all weapons need the same materials?
No. The material list is tied to the selected weapon. Fine Cloth and Magic Pendants are examples that appear in guide coverage, but they are not a universal recipe. Other entries can be weapon-specific or tied to a particular mode, and the currency cost can differ.
Use a guide’s recipe as a planning hint, not as a substitute for the current menu. If the guide and the game disagree, record the in-game list and farm that list. This is especially important after balance or content updates, when older tables may omit a newly added row or show an earlier cost.
Shadow Monarch: the important exception to the usual route
Many listed weapons are described as following one evolution step. Shadow Monarch is treated differently: guides describe a dedicated three-stage Monarch Path:
- The System
- Arise: Igris
- Demon King’s Longsword
Do not apply a one-step assumption to this weapon. Its exact stage requirements and effects are update-sensitive, so open the live menu and inspect the current stage before farming. A material that completes one Monarch Path stage may not satisfy the next stage, and the final weapon state should be checked separately from the first unlock.
Which weapon should you evolve first?
There is no universal best first choice because the decision combines your actual loadout with the current recipe.
Start with the weapon that carries your runs
A practical default is the main weapon you equip to clear stages. Unlocking its ultimate gives the weapon you already rely on access to its missing fourth skill, rather than diverting materials to an item you rarely use.

Compare the partner weapon’s route
Before committing, inspect the partner weapon too. If its required drops come from a mode you can clear and the main weapon’s materials are currently out of reach, the partner may offer a more attainable route. This is a materials-and-access decision, not a claim that one weapon is universally stronger.
Check content access before choosing
For each candidate, note the source of every missing item and whether you can enter and reliably clear that stage or mode. A weapon with an impressive ultimate is not an efficient first project if its required mode is unavailable to your account.
Account for the Monarch Path
If Shadow Monarch is one of your options, include all three stages in your plan. Compare the complete staged route with the single Evolution step of another weapon rather than comparing only the first Monarch requirement.
Evolution versus other kinds of weapon upgrading
“Upgrading” is often used as a catch-all for any improvement to equipment. The available information clearly identifies Evolution as the ultimate-unlock process, but it does not provide an authoritative inventory of every other weapon progression system. That means you should not infer that every stat increase, level action, enhancement screen or resource spend is the same mechanic.

When a guide says “upgrade your weapon,” identify the exact action it means:
- If it directs you to Areas → Evolution, the Evolution NPC and an Evolve button, it is describing the awakening route and ultimate unlock.
- If it describes another screen, resource or level action, treat that as a separate system unless the game explicitly connects it to the Evolution panel.
- If the wording is ambiguous, follow the named menu path and check whether the fourth skill changes. That visible result distinguishes the awakening process from a general improvement.
Planning a material farm without wasting runs
- Choose one target weapon. Write down its exact name so you do not farm for a similarly named item.
- Capture the full recipe. Scroll through every row and note materials, quantities and currency.
- Mark each source. Use the reward preview to associate every missing item with its stage or mode.
- Rank the bottlenecks. Identify the item that requires content you cannot currently clear; that may determine whether another weapon is a better first evolution.
- Farm only confirmed drops. Verify the reward preview before spending stamina, tickets or other run-limited resources.
- Reopen the panel after farming. Confirm that the exact row increased and that no additional requirement remains.
- Use Evolve only after the checklist is complete. Keep enough currency for every displayed row rather than assuming materials alone trigger the action.
This process prevents two common errors: collecting a similarly named item from the wrong mode and stopping after the first visible requirement is complete.

What can and cannot be taken from guide recipes?
Guide lists are useful for discovering likely materials and planning where to look, but they are not guaranteed to cover every weapon or current cost. The consistent information is the structure of the mechanic: visit Evolution, select the weapon, satisfy its displayed requirements and use Evolve to unlock the ultimate. Detailed recipes, drop routes and stage effects should be verified in the live game because coverage varies and updates can make a static list stale.
No developer quotation or named gameplay statistic establishes a universal bonus for awakening. Avoid treating a fan guide’s wording as an official promise about damage, rarity or other effects that the current panel does not show.

Answers to common questions
Why can I use three skills but not my ultimate?
The weapon has not completed its Evolution requirement. The ultimate is the fourth skill and is locked until the Evolution NPC accepts the full recipe.
Do I need to evolve every weapon?
No universal rule requires every weapon to be evolved at once. Prioritize the weapon you use and can realistically complete, then decide whether another weapon’s route is more attainable.
Are Fine Cloth and Magic Pendants required for every weapon?
No. They are examples from guide lists, not a universal recipe. Check the selected weapon’s current panel for its own materials and currency.
Can I trust an old recipe table?
Use it as a lead only. Recipe coverage and costs can vary, so verify every row in the current Evolution menu before farming.
