For your first team in Aniimo, choose Helion for close-range burst attacks or Lunara for ranged combat and recovery. Then, as you reach Nimbus Fields, catch creatures that add something your team lacks—such as movement, swimming, breaking obstacles, or healing—instead of chasing a supposed best-in-game roster. Fan guides suggest Emberpup, Celestis, Skippy, and Budclaw as early options, but they do not establish a definitive ranking.
Helion or Lunara: choose the combat style you prefer
The starter decision is primarily about how you want to fight. The beginner guides describe Helion as a close-range fighter built around burst damage, while Lunara attacks from range, can affect broader areas, and offers recovery that may help in longer encounters. Both are described as sharing an element, so neither choice alone gives you broader elemental coverage.
- Choose Helion if you enjoy getting close and dealing damage in bursts.
- Choose Lunara if you prefer distance, wider-area attacks, and recovery.
Neither is established as objectively better. The available recommendations are from fan guides, and no primary developer ranking or independent gameplay test supports a universal winner. You can add different roles and elements with later catches.
Which Aniimos are useful to catch early?
Use this as a shortlist of possible team and exploration additions, not a guaranteed route or tier list. Catch one when it fills a real gap in your current lineup.
#1 Best Overall
| Aniimo | Guide-reported early value | Consider it when |
|---|---|---|
| Emberpup | Fire damage and sprint ability | You want another attacking option or movement utility. |
| Celestis | Flying or climbing utility; listed as an early Nimbus Fields catch | You need help reaching elevated terrain or ledges. |
| Skippy | Swimming utility and a possible path toward a healer | Your team needs sustain or water traversal. |
| Budclaw | Break ability and rock-puzzle utility | You need to break obstacles or add Break coverage. |
These uses are reported by unofficial guides, not verified as an optimal lineup. The right choice depends on your starter, the jobs your current Aniimos cover, and the abilities you need to explore.
Build coverage instead of collecting duplicates
A useful early team answers different problems. The guides identify damage, healing, support, breaking, and regeneration as distinct jobs. Consider combat range and elemental variety alongside field abilities such as climbing, flying, swimming, sprinting, and breaking.
- Look for a role your team does not already handle well, such as healing or support.
- Add a different attack range or element if your current options are narrow.
- Value exploration abilities when they open routes or solve obstacles you have encountered.
- Replace a trained Aniimo only when an alternative offers a meaningful improvement in the same role; a new, unlevelled catch is not automatically better.
There is no universally optimal early team established by the available guides. Treat each catch as a response to a specific gap rather than a step on a fixed ranking.

- Create your Pathfinder and complete the first capture.
- Choose Helion or Lunara according to your preferred combat range.
- Learn Command and Twining, complete the Institute initiation, and continue into Nimbus Fields.
- Use the story objective as your main route. Make short detours for nearby catches or resources, and return later if a path needs an ability you do not have yet.
- Before spending an Aniipod, check the capture percentage, as the beginner guides advise. Catch an Aniimo when its role, element, or field ability is useful to your team.
Understand Command and Twining
Command keeps the Pathfinder in control
In Command, the Pathfinder stays on the field and issues attack orders to a team Aniimo. It is the mode for directing a creature while remaining in control of your character.

Twining puts you in control of an Aniimo

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Use elemental matchups as a guide, not a guarantee
An unofficial fan guide reports nine types and lists super-effective attacks as dealing 1.6× damage and resisted attacks as dealing 0.625×. The same guide says same-element attacks are resisted except for Dark and reports no immunities. These are guide-reported figures, not official developer-confirmed balance data; check the in-game chart for the current matchup information.
When choosing catches, elemental coverage is one factor alongside role and exploration utility. The guides do not establish that any specific starter or early team is best against every matchup.
