Angstrom Levy is a setup-heavy space controller, not simply a projectile-spamming zoner. The developer describes his portals as tools for offense, defense and mobility, with careful placement creating traps. His orbs can interact with those portals to add pressure and more setup routes. In Invincible VS’s 3v3 tag format, that means his space control is tied to positioning, assists and tag decisions as much as to keeping an opponent at long range.
The available official material does not publish a complete list of rival zoners, frame data, damage values, matchup statistics or confirmed counters. The comparisons below therefore separate established design facts from practical hypotheses you should verify in Training Mode.

What kind of zoner is Angstrom Levy?
Mike Willette, executive producer of Invincible VS, calls Angstrom “a zoning-focused fighter with a strong emphasis on setups and strategy.” That wording matters. It identifies zoning as his core job, but it does not define him as a character whose entire game plan is firing conventional projectiles from one side of the screen.
His defining tools are portals and orbs. Portals can be used offensively, defensively and for mobility, while deliberate placement can turn them into traps. The developer also says portals and orbs have unique interactions that create additional ways to manipulate the fight, pressure an opponent and experiment with setups. His strongest moments should therefore come from making the opponent respect several possible routes at once rather than from repeating one attack.

Portal control changes access to space
A normal long-range attack makes a particular lane dangerous for a limited time. A portal can change where an attack, character or follow-up becomes relevant. That makes Angstrom’s zoning more positional: the value of a portal depends on where it is placed, what the opponent is trying to do, and whether an orb or teammate can exploit the resulting situation.
He has three stated portal functions
- Offense: portals can help create pressure and traps instead of merely keeping the opponent away.
- Defense: portals provide options for dealing with an approach or escaping an unfavorable position.
- Mobility: portals can alter Angstrom’s movement and the locations from which he threatens the opponent.
Those functions overlap. A portal placed to protect Angstrom may also deny an approach; one intended as an offensive trap may become a retreat route if the opponent challenges it.
Orbs add a second setup layer
Orbs are a distinct part of the kit, not just a visual effect attached to portals. The official description specifically highlights interactions between portals and orbs. That means Angstrom players must think about both where the portal is and how the orb relationship changes the opponent’s available responses. The exact command list and interaction rules are not published in the cited material, so treat the following as a training objective rather than a guaranteed sequence: learn which portal-orb arrangements cover an approach, which create a punish opportunity, and which leave Angstrom exposed.

Because his tools are setup-oriented, his decisions are easier to understand as a sequence of objectives than as a single “stay full screen” instruction.
1. Establish a useful position
Start by choosing a location that gives you room to place portals without immediately surrendering the corner or your escape route. The right position is not necessarily maximum distance. You want enough space to make the opponent approach while retaining a portal route that can protect you if the approach succeeds.

2. Make the opponent account for the portal
A portal has strategic value when it changes what the opponent is allowed to do. Place it where an approach, jump, retreat or assist call would become uncomfortable. Do not assume every portal is automatically a trap; its effect depends on timing and the opponent’s response. A portal that is obvious and isolated may be ignored, while one that overlaps with an orb or teammate action can force a more specific decision.
3. Layer an orb interaction
Once a portal is established, look for an orb interaction that increases the number of responses you can cover. The developer’s description supports the existence of these interactions, but not a universal best arrangement. In practice, record which combinations stop a direct advance, which force the opponent to block, and which can be bypassed by jumping or moving around the setup.
4. Convert hesitation into pressure
Zoning is not successful merely because the opponent remains far away. When the opponent blocks, retreats or waits for the setup to disappear, use that hesitation to claim space, call an assist or reposition. Angstrom’s portals are described as offensive tools, so the plan should include moments when you advance behind the threat rather than resetting to the same distance.
5. Keep a defensive exit available
Because portals also have defensive and mobility uses, avoid spending every portal option on offense. If the opponent reaches you, the value of a setup may be the escape it preserves. Test whether a given placement leaves you vulnerable to a fast approach, a jump-in or a tag-in before committing to it in a live match.
Angstrom compared with other zoning styles
The cited official sources do not identify which other characters the roster classifies as zoners. It would therefore be misleading to name a specific character as Angstrom’s direct counter or to assign a verified win rate. The useful comparison is by function: how a character controls space, how much preparation that control requires, and how it interacts with movement and teammates.

| Zoning style | Primary way space becomes difficult to enter | How Angstrom differs | What to test |
|---|---|---|---|
| Portal-and-orb setup zoning | Placed portals, orb interactions and conditional traps | Access is manipulated through locations and interactions, so the setup’s position and timing are central | Which placements cover approach, retreat and jump routes at the same time |
| Projectile-centric zoning | Repeated attacks that make a lane or distance unsafe | Angstrom’s verified identity includes defensive and mobility uses for portals, not only long-range harassment | Whether a projectile pattern can force Angstrom to abandon a portal, and whether a portal changes the firing angle or approach route |
| Trap or setplay zoning | Pre-positioned hazards that punish a predictable response | Angstrom fits this family through careful portal placement, with orbs adding another interaction layer | How much time is needed to establish the trap and what happens if the opponent attacks during setup |
| Mobility-based space control | Rapid repositioning that makes pursuit or cornering difficult | Mobility is one stated portal function, but Angstrom’s identity also depends on setup and pressure | Whether a portal can both relocate Angstrom and preserve a threat instead of functioning only as an escape |
| Assist-dependent zoning | A teammate’s attack extends coverage or protects a long-range action | Angstrom’s portals and orbs can be evaluated alongside assists in the game’s 3v3 structure | Which assist timings let a portal remain active long enough to create a real decision |
This table describes comparison axes, not a ranking. A projectile specialist may be easier to operate at first because the threat is direct; a setup character may produce stronger positional advantage after practice but become vulnerable while arranging it. Neither description establishes a matchup result.

What changes in a 3v3 tag match?
Invincible VS is a 3v3 tag fighter. Team assists and swaps are therefore part of every zoning decision, even when Angstrom is the active character. A portal that is useful in a one-on-one thought experiment may be much stronger when an assist covers the opponent’s escape, and much weaker if the assist leaves Angstrom unable to defend himself.
Use assists to protect setup time
Call an assist when it creates the time or space needed to place a portal or establish an orb interaction. The relevant question is not simply whether the assist hits. Check whether it forces the opponent to block, changes their movement route, or prevents them from attacking Angstrom during setup.
Use portals to improve the assist’s coverage
Because portals can be offensive and mobile, they may let Angstrom approach from a less predictable location while the assist is active. Test whether the portal causes the assist to cover a different escape direction or whether the two effects overlap without adding meaningful coverage.
Plan the tag decision before the setup
A zoning sequence can fail if the opponent reaches Angstrom while the intended partner is unavailable. Before placing a portal, know whether you will continue, call an assist, swap out or retreat through a portal if the opponent challenges. The game’s tag structure makes that contingency part of the matchup plan rather than an afterthought.

Choose partners by function, not by an unverified tier claim
The available sources do not establish which teammates are best for Angstrom. Evaluate partners by what they add to a portal setup: protection during placement, a way to punish blocking, coverage of an escape route, or a safe opportunity to swap. Record the result in Training Mode rather than assuming a character is a proven partner.
Practical matchup plans by opponent behavior
Without published matchup data, classify the opponent by what they do against your setup. This gives you a repeatable plan without pretending that a universal counter has been proven.
If the opponent rushes immediately
- Place the first portal with a defensive route in mind rather than spending every resource on a distant trap.
- Test whether the rush can reach Angstrom before the portal or orb interaction becomes active.
- If the approach is blocked or redirected, use the resulting hesitation to reposition or call an assist.
- In Training Mode, repeat the sequence against the opponent’s fastest approach and check whether the portal remains useful when Angstrom is forced toward the corner.
If the opponent waits and reacts
- Use a portal placement that threatens more than one route, such as advancing, retreating or jumping.
- Layer an orb only when the interaction changes the opponent’s decision; avoid building a setup that can be ignored.
- Advance behind the threat when the opponent gives ground, since maintaining distance alone does not win the exchange.
- Track which response they choose most often, then test whether a teammate assist can cover that response.
If the opponent uses long-range attacks
- Identify whether the attack controls a fixed lane or follows Angstrom’s position.
- Test portal mobility and defensive use against the timing of the attack rather than assuming a portal automatically bypasses it.
- Check whether an orb interaction makes the opponent stop firing, move or block.
- Measure success by the space gained and the safety of the resulting position, not by an assumed projectile-counter property.
If the opponent jumps or changes elevation
Do not infer an anti-air answer from the word “zoner.” Record which portal placements and orb interactions affect the opponent’s chosen route. The official material does not publish Angstrom’s move properties or frame data, so a jump interaction must be verified directly.
Training Mode: how to verify the interactions
Xbox Wire identifies Training Mode as the place to learn individual characters and their movesets. It is also the appropriate place to separate a plausible setup from a reliable one.

- Test each portal function separately. Try an offensive placement, a defensive placement and a mobility route. Note the opponent’s simplest response to each.
- Add one orb at a time. Determine what changes when the orb interacts with the portal. Check whether the interaction covers an approach, forces block, creates a trap or leaves a gap.
- Recreate common approaches. Test a grounded rush, a jump, a retreat, a long-range attack and a tag or assist call. Use the same starting distance for comparable attempts.
- Test failure states. Interrupt Angstrom during setup, push him toward the corner and remove the intended escape route. A setup is only practical if you know how it fails.
- Add a teammate assist. Compare the setup with no assist, an assist that protects placement and an assist that covers the opponent’s likely escape. Record whether the assist creates a new decision or merely overlaps existing coverage.
- Repeat after a tag. Check whether portal locations remain useful after Angstrom returns and whether the opponent can attack during the transition.
- Write down observations, not guesses. Record the exact situation, the opponent’s response and the result. Do not convert an unmeasured impression into a frame advantage, guaranteed punish or matchup percentage.
What is and is not established about matchups
The official character article establishes Angstrom’s intended design: zoning through portals, traps, mobility, defense and portal-orb setups. It does not establish his command list, frame data, damage values, recovery, projectile speed, specific counter-zoners or competitive results.

A GamesRadar+ launch review describes the broader game system as including light, medium, heavy and special attacks, teammate assists and swaps, and a special meter. Its preview also observes that Atom Eve can attack from the air at range and use distance against close-range threats. Those observations describe a launch-build preview and predate Angstrom’s planned October 2026 addition; they are not developer-certified evidence that Atom Eve is Angstrom’s counter or that any particular matchup is favorable.
Xbox Wire announced Angstrom as the third DLC fighter and 21st playable character, with a planned arrival date of October 13, 2026. The announcement was published October 1, 2026, so the stated date should not be treated as independent proof that the character was playable at every moment on that date.
Common mistakes when learning Angstrom
- Confusing distance with control. A far-away opponent may still be choosing the pace if your portals do not restrict their next action.
- Placing portals without an exit. Offensive ambition can leave Angstrom vulnerable when the opponent challenges before the setup is complete.
- Building decorative setups. If the opponent can walk around, jump over or wait out the portal-orb interaction without making a concession, it is not producing useful pressure.
- Calling assists on autopilot. An assist should protect setup time or cover a response; otherwise it may simply create recovery risk without changing the decision.
- Assuming every zoner matchup is solved by patience. Some opponents may require proactive repositioning, a tag or a portal-based escape rather than endless retreat.
- Claiming a counter without testing. No cited source supplies matchup rates or a named direct counter, so use measured Training Mode results and current patch information before making that claim.
How to decide whether Angstrom suits your playstyle
He is a good fit if you enjoy
- Planning where the opponent will be allowed to move.
- Creating pressure from layered interactions instead of repeating one projectile.
- Switching between offense, defense and mobility with the same core tool.
- Coordinating setups with assists and tags in a 3v3 team.
- Spending time in Training Mode to discover reliable portal and orb relationships.
He may feel demanding if you prefer
- An immediately effective long-range attack with little preparation.
- A simple game plan that does not change with portal placement.
- Guaranteed matchup answers supplied by published frame data or matchup charts.
- Playing the active character independently of teammate timing.
Bottom line on Angstrom versus other zoners
Angstrom’s distinction is how he controls access to space. The developer positions him as a zoning-focused fighter whose portals can attack, defend, reposition and form traps, while portal-orb interactions add further setup possibilities. Compared with a straightforward projectile style, that is more conditional and more dependent on placement; compared with a pure trap style, it includes explicit mobility and defensive uses; compared with a solo one-on-one plan, it must be evaluated alongside assists and swaps in the 3v3 format.
