Anduril CEO Brian Schimpf says the defense company’s rise cannot be explained simply by its ties to President Donald Trump or co-founder Palmer Luckey’s political access. “We’ve done incredibly well under [President Joe] Biden,” Schimpf said, describing the Biden years as one of Anduril’s biggest growth periods. That claim sits alongside major 2026 announcements, including a Navy award worth up to $2.9 billion and a separately reported Defense Department deal worth up to $20 billion.

The public record establishes announced contract ceilings and company projections, not the amount Anduril has actually collected or a finding that political relationships changed any award. Schimpf says bids pass through competitive Defense Department processes and that Anduril wins “based on the merits.”

What Brian Schimpf said about Anduril under Biden

In comments reported on October 15, 2026, Schimpf rejected a partisan explanation for Anduril’s current momentum. He called the Biden period “one of our biggest ramps” and said he has relationships on both sides of the political aisle.

His most direct statement was: “We’ve done incredibly well under [President Joe] Biden.” That is the CEO’s characterization of the company’s performance, not a published government tally of revenue, contract obligations or profit during the Biden administration. The available material does not provide a Biden-era dollar total that can be independently compared with the 2026 announcements.

Schimpf also described the operational challenge ahead: “This allows us to stay really focused on what we need to do – which is a massive, unprecedented ramp in defense production that we need to execute on over the next couple of years.”

Which contracts are part of the Trump-era context?

The announcements most often cited in the current political debate came in October 2026, during the Trump administration. Their values are maximum potential amounts unless a contract notice shows otherwise.

Announcement Value and term What the figure means
Navy Arsenal-2 Up to $2.9 billion An announced ceiling for a software-defined shipyard project; the release does not establish that the full amount has been obligated or paid.
Army Next-Generation Command and Control (NGC2) $162.8 million base period; options up to $1.8 billion over five years The base period and options represent different stages of potential contract value, not a single confirmed payment.
Defense Department award reported in March Up to $20 billion A figure reported in connection with a multiyear contract; the available material does not include a government award notice confirming obligations or disbursements.

Arsenal-2: the new shipyard

In its October 6 announcement, Anduril said the U.S. Navy awarded it a contract of up to $2.9 billion for Arsenal-2, a software-defined shipyard at Tradepoint Atlantic in Baltimore County, Maryland. The company says it plans to invest $3.7 billion in private capital, create more than 3,000 direct jobs and more than 11,000 indirect jobs, and begin initial operations in 2030.

Those investment, employment and timetable figures are Anduril’s projections. Initial operations depend on permitting and construction, so they should not be read as completed economic results or current headcount.

NGC2: software as well as shipbuilding

Anduril’s October 5 Army announcement covers Next-Generation Command and Control. It lists a $162.8 million base period and options that could raise the total to $1.8 billion over five years. The award shows that Anduril’s federal portfolio includes command-and-control software in addition to physical production and shipyard work.

The reported up-to-$20 billion Defense Department deal

The October 15 report also refers to a multiyear Defense Department contract worth up to $20 billion announced in March 2026. Because that amount is presented through the report rather than an accompanying government award notice in the available material, it should be treated as a reported ceiling. It cannot be used to calculate how much money the Pentagon has already paid Anduril.

Did Palmer Luckey’s Trump ties affect the awards?

The concern arises from Luckey’s close relationship with the Trump administration and his appointment to a Defense Department group called Project Meridian. The report says Luckey was named to that group shortly before Anduril announced the Arsenal-2 contract: the appointment was reported a few days before the October 6 shipyard announcement.

That timing raises a procurement-integrity question: can an executive’s political access influence defense priorities or the outcome of a competition? The material available here records the allegation and Anduril’s response, but it does not establish favoritism, an ethics violation or an improper award.

Schimpf’s defense was procedural: “So everything goes through these very competitive processes, and we win based on the merits.” That statement describes the company’s position. A definitive finding about influence would require a government procurement record, inspector-general review, court ruling or other authoritative determination, none of which is established here.

How much money has Anduril actually received?

No reliable total can be derived from the announced figures alone. “Up to” amounts are ceilings that may include unexercised options. A contract’s base period, future options, obligations and payments are separate measures, and a company announcement is not an audited statement of cash received.

  • The Navy’s Arsenal-2 figure is a potential value of up to $2.9 billion.
  • The Army’s NGC2 award has a stated $162.8 million base period, with options that could reach $1.8 billion over five years.
  • The reported $20 billion Defense Department figure is also described as “up to” and is not accompanied here by an obligation or payment breakdown.
  • Anduril’s $3.7 billion shipyard investment and projected job totals are company commitments and forecasts, not Pentagon payments.

To answer “received” precisely, readers would need obligated and disbursed amounts from official federal contracting records, rather than adding announcement ceilings.

Why the administration comparison is difficult

Comparing Biden and Trump requires separating four different questions:

  1. Timing: Schimpf says growth accelerated under Biden, while the largest announcements discussed in the report occurred in 2026 under Trump.
  2. Value: The public figures are mostly maximum potential values, not a like-for-like measure of annual revenue or payments.
  3. Process: Schimpf says Anduril competed through Defense Department procedures; the available material does not independently test that claim.
  4. Access: Luckey’s political connections and Project Meridian appointment create scrutiny, but proximity alone does not prove an award was influenced.

On the evidence available, the strongest defensible conclusion is that Anduril expanded across administrations, while the size and timing of its Trump-era announcements intensified questions about political access. The Biden success claim comes from Schimpf; the contract ceilings come from company announcements or a news report; none of those facts alone proves that politics determined the outcome.

What the expansion means for defense suppliers

Anduril’s plans also point to demand beyond its own facilities. In a September 29 announcement, the company said Voyager would supply more than $60 million in critical technologies, including solid rocket motors and divert-and-attitude-control systems. That relationship suggests the expansion touches propulsion and other specialized defense manufacturing, not only software and ship construction.
