Google describes Gemini Intelligence as a suite of Android AI features that can carry out multi-step tasks across apps, help with web research, fill forms, polish spoken messages and create widgets from natural-language requests. That makes it a plausible answer to “Android’s most-hyped new feature,” but the phrase is subjective: Android 17 also introduced prominent features, and the headline alone does not identify which one it means. Google’s examples describe intended capabilities, not proof that a particular task worked on a particular phone.
What does “Android’s most-hyped new feature” mean?
There is no verified ranking establishing one Android feature as the most hyped. One likely interpretation is Gemini Intelligence, which Google announced on May 12, 2026, as a suite of AI capabilities for Android. Another is a feature in Android 17, announced in June 2026. Those are separate announcements, and they should not be conflated.
The title also implies a personal test and a change of opinion after using one task. No device, app workflow or firsthand result is established here, so it would be misleading to claim that a task changed the writer’s mind. The useful question is what Google says the features can do, who may get them, and what to check before relying on them.

What can Gemini Intelligence do on Android?
Google describes Gemini Intelligence as a collection of capabilities rather than one isolated trick. Its announced functions include automating multi-step actions across apps, researching and summarizing web content in Chrome, helping fill forms, turning natural speech into polished messages with Rambler, and generating custom widgets from natural-language requests.

Google’s examples illustrate the ambition: ask Gemini to make a shopping cart from a grocery list, locate a class syllabus in Gmail and add the required books to a cart, or find a tour based on a photograph. These are Google’s examples, not independently verified results. A real evaluation would need to report the exact phone, apps, instructions, permissions, steps completed and any corrections or confirmations required.
Why the cross-app task is the meaningful test
A request that spans apps is a more demanding measure than a single response. The assistant must interpret the request, find relevant information, move between services and handle a consequential action such as preparing a cart. Google says Gemini Intelligence acts on the user’s command and stops when the task is complete, leaving final confirmation to the person. That description does not establish how reliably every app workflow will work, or whether every supported app and task will be available on every device.

How is Android 17 different?
Android 17 is a software release with several distinct features, not another name for Gemini Intelligence. Google said it was making Android 17 available on most supported Pixel devices, with other eligible Android devices expected during 2026. A few of its announced functions may be what someone means by a newly prominent Android feature:
- App Bubbles: turn any app into a floating window. On tablets and foldables, a Bubble Bar helps organize and reopen those apps.
- Screen Reactions: record the screen and selfie camera together.
- Foldable gaming mode: a feature aimed at gaming on foldable devices.
- Privacy and security features: Android 17 also introduces changes in these areas.
Earlier Android releases brought other notable capabilities. Android 16 introduced live updates in notifications, hearing-device calling enhancements, Advanced Protection and desktop windowing for compatible large-screen devices. If a reader has a particular feature in mind, the release and function matter: an Android 16 capability, an Android 17 windowing feature and a Gemini Intelligence task are not interchangeable subjects.

Which devices can use Gemini Intelligence?
Google says the first wave of Gemini Intelligence is for select Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel phones, with broader Android availability planned later in 2026. The announcement does not mean that every Android phone is eligible, or that every capability arrives at the same time. Google names Pixel 10 and Galaxy S26 as devices used while fine-tuning automation; that is not a compatibility list for every feature.
Before expecting a specific function, check the current eligibility and rollout information for the exact phone, region and account. Availability can differ by model and rollout wave, and a device being part of a named family does not by itself establish that every Gemini Intelligence feature is enabled on it.

What privacy controls does Google describe?
Google says Autofill with Google integration is opt-in and can be toggled in settings. For Rambler, Google says the feature indicates when it is active and uses audio for real-time transcription without storing or saving it. Those statements apply to the specific functions described; they are not a blanket guarantee about how all Gemini processing works.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFor any task involving forms, messages or information from other apps, review the permissions and confirmation steps presented on the phone. Treat a prepared action as something to inspect rather than assuming the assistant has made the right choice.

How to judge whether a feature is useful
For a fair hands-on account, choose one concrete task and document what happens rather than relying on a broad claim that AI “works” or “doesn’t work.” Useful evaluation points include:
- Task: State the requested outcome and identify the apps involved.
- Device and availability: Record the phone model, software version, region and whether the capability was actually enabled.
- Completion: Note which steps happened automatically, what needed correction and where a person had to confirm an action.
- Ease: Consider how much setup and prompting the task required compared with doing it manually.
- Privacy: Identify the permissions, opt-in settings and visible activity indicators relevant to that particular workflow.
For context, Google’s Android developer blog said in 2026 that over 580 million large-screen devices were in users’ hands. That figure describes the large-screen-device ecosystem; it is not a count of Gemini users, Android users overall or people using any one feature.
