After switching from Android to iPhone, the biggest adjustment may be how familiar actions work—not the loss of whole feature categories. Android’s flexible home-screen setup, system-level Back navigation and Google’s device-assistant integration can feel different on iPhone. Apple offers widgets, Home Screen customization, app switching and Picture in Picture, but those capabilities do not replicate every Android workflow.
1. A home screen built around your own layout
Android lets you arrange apps, shortcuts and widgets on the home screen. Widgets can surface information without opening an app, which is useful if you routinely check items such as calendar entries or other app updates at a glance. The available options and setup vary by Android version and device. Google’s Android instructions for adding apps, shortcuts and widgets cover the general workflow.
On iPhone, widgets and Home Screen customization are available too. The difference to expect is in the particular layout and setup you have grown accustomed to on your Android phone—not the disappearance of widgets altogether. Apple documents these options in its iPhone User Guide.

With Android gesture navigation, swiping inward from either the left or right edge of the screen goes back. Android also offers three-button navigation, which includes a dedicated Back button. If you use the edge gesture often, it may become the most noticeable habit to relearn: the action is a consistent system navigation control, although what happens when you go back depends on the screen or app. Google notes that instructions can differ by device and manufacturer in its guide to getting around on an Android device.

3. Google Assistant or Gemini actions tied to Android settings
Google documents Gemini device assistance on Android, including changing selected device settings when Gemini is set as the default digital assistant. That can make voice assistance feel more connected to the phone itself than an interaction limited to a standalone app. Which actions are available depends on Google’s supported capabilities and your configuration; consult Google’s Device assistance help page for the current scope.
This is a specific Android integration, not a claim that Google apps or every assistant capability are absent on iPhone. Google’s Pixel help page says the new Google Assistant experience it describes is not available on iPhone or iPad; that statement is limited to that experience, rather than every Google assistant-related feature. What you can still do on iPhone
Switching platforms does not mean giving up every glanceable or multitasking feature. Apple supports app switching, and Picture in Picture can keep supported videos or FaceTime in a small window while you use other apps. Availability depends on the app or content. These capabilities are useful comparisons, but they are not identical substitutes for Android’s edge-swipe Back behavior or its documented device-assistant controls. The practical question is which daily actions you rely on: arranging a personalized home screen, returning through screens with a gesture, or asking an assistant to change a device setting.
