Android System Intelligence supports a collection of smart features on Android, including Live Caption, app predictions, Smart Text Selection and Live Translate. Turning it off could affect features that rely on it, but Google does not publish a universal list of what stops working on every device. The result depends on the phone, its Android version and which features it supports.
What Android System Intelligence does
Google describes Android System Intelligence as a system component within Private Compute Core that powers intelligent features across Android. It is not a single user-facing feature; it supports several conveniences that may differ across devices.
Google’s documented examples include:
- Live Caption, Screen Attention and Smart Autorotate
- Improved copy and paste, Smart Text Selection and Linkify
- App predictions, notification actions and App Search
- Live Translate and Assistant Voice Typing
- Now Playing and boarding-pass support from a screenshot
Some features are available only on certain devices. Google also says system permissions can enable particular predictions: for example, contact permission may allow a suggestion to call a frequent contact. That example does not mean every feature uses contact access. Google’s Pixel Phone Help documentation describes the component and its feature examples.

Features that depend on Android System Intelligence may stop working or behave differently if the component is disabled. Google does not document a definitive, cross-device list of effects, so it is not possible to say that a specific feature will always break—or that disabling the component will be harmless.

The exact impact depends on the device, Android version, manufacturer customization and features available on that phone. Before changing a system component, note which smart features you use and check the controls available on your specific device. The official sources cited here do not establish a universal disable procedure or a guaranteed outcome.
They also do not establish that disabling the component improves battery life, speed or storage use. Those benefits should not be assumed.

Disabling it is different from clearing data or changing analytics
Android System Intelligence has several controls that serve different purposes. Clearing its data or changing analytics preferences is not the same as turning off the component.

| Goal | What to do | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Keep supported smart features available | Leave Android System Intelligence enabled. | This preserves access to features that depend on the component; availability varies by device. |
| Change optional analytics collection | Open Settings > Privacy > Usage & Diagnostics. | Google documents this as the control for optional analytics collection. Menu wording may vary by device and Android release. |
| Clear Android System Intelligence data | Open Settings > Security & privacy > More security & privacy > Android System Intelligence > Clear Data. | This clears the component’s data; it is not a documented global disable switch. Menu wording may vary. |
| Investigate whether the component can be disabled | Check the system-component controls on your specific phone. | Google’s cited guidance does not provide a universal path or explain the effects across devices. |
Google also documents a “Record Network Usage” control in Android System Intelligence settings. It records network usage; it is not documentation of a control that disables the component. Google’s Usage & Diagnostics help covers analytics and clearing data, while its network-usage help page describes the recording control.

What Google says about privacy and network access
Google says Android System Intelligence and Private Compute Services collect crash logs, diagnostics and device identifiers for application analytics. Google describes analytics collection as optional and provides the Usage & Diagnostics setting for managing it.
Google says features in Private Compute Core do not have direct network access, and describes Private Compute Services as a secure bridge to the cloud that helps those features receive updates. Its security blog explains this architecture, and its Pixel privacy overview discusses privacy protections. These are Google’s descriptions of its systems, not an independent audit of every data flow. The cloud bridge and analytics disclosures also mean the privacy description should not be read as a guarantee that no information ever leaves the device.
