Android’s scrolling screenshot works on Android 12 and later, but only on “most screens that allow you to scroll”—not every app or screen. If Capture more is missing, the content may not support Android’s capture system; it does not automatically mean your phone’s scrolling is broken.
How to take a scrolling screenshot
- Confirm that your device runs Android 12 or later.
- Open the specific page or screen you want to capture and make sure it can scroll.
- Press Power and Volume down at the same time.
- If Capture more appears, tap it and adjust the crop guides to include the content you want.
Google describes this method as working on “most screens that allow you to scroll,” rather than promising it for every screen. Google’s Android screenshot instructions cover the general steps.
Why Capture more can be missing
A screen can scroll normally for you but still not provide its content in a form Android can capture as one long image. Scrolling screenshots depend partly on how the app presents its interface to Android’s capture system.
Standard and custom app interfaces
When Android 12 introduced the feature, Google said that most apps using the standard View-based interface should work without changes. Apps using a non-View interface or a highly customized interface may need to implement Android’s ScrollCapture API to support scrolling screenshots. That distinction explains why support can vary by screen, even on the same device.

What ScrollCapture does
Android’s ScrollCaptureCallback reference describes the callback as responsible for providing “rendered snapshots of scrolling content” to the capture system. An app can identify a scrolling area and supply the rendered content as the system requests it. So taking a long screenshot is not simply a matter of repeatedly capturing whatever pixels happen to be visible; the app’s interface must participate in the capture process.
Android’s general guidance does not list compatibility for every phone maker’s software, app, or browser. The API explains why support can depend on an app’s interface, but it does not establish that a particular browser or app always works—or always fails.

What to check when the option does not appear
- Check the Android version. The general Android instructions set Android 12 as the baseline. If your device runs an earlier version, those instructions do not promise scrolling screenshots.
- Try the shortcut on the content itself. Open a page that visibly scrolls, then press Power and Volume down together. A home screen or unrelated menu is not a useful test of the page you are trying to capture.
- Test another ordinary app screen that scrolls. If Capture more appears there but not on the original screen, the difference points to screen or app support—not proof that scrolling is defective on the phone.
- Look up device-specific guidance. If the standard shortcut does not work, Google directs users to their phone manufacturer’s support site for device-specific instructions. App-specific behavior may likewise require current guidance from that app’s publisher.
How to interpret the result
The most useful distinction is between a device-level issue and a screen-level support boundary. Android 12 or later is the general OS baseline; standard View-based interfaces are more likely to work out of the box, while non-View or heavily customized interfaces may need explicit support. Those are useful clues, not a guarantee for every app or device.
