Android Auto can play live radio streams through compatible apps on your phone, but it does not turn your car’s FM tuner or antenna into an app. Four services have verified Android Auto support: TuneIn, myTuner Radio, iHeart, and Radioplayer. Check that your preferred stations are available in your country before relying on any one of them.
What “FM radio on Android Auto” means
Android Auto displays compatible media apps installed on your phone; it does not add a terrestrial FM tuner to your vehicle. These apps stream live stations over the internet, so playback depends on a data connection and the station being available through the service. Four radio apps with documented Android Auto support
The title’s five-app count cannot be substantiated from the available official and app-store documentation. These four options have documented support; rather than add an unverified fifth name, use the checklist below to see which fits your listening habits.
TuneIn
TuneIn’s Google Play listing describes access to more than 100,000 live AM/FM stations worldwide, alongside news, sports, music, podcasts, and audiobooks. The listing also indicates advertising and in-app purchases. Catalog availability and paid features can vary by region and change over time, so check the listing and your local station lineup. myTuner Radio
myTuner’s FAQ lists Android Auto as a supported car platform. Its radio stations are internet streams; the Samsung app description explicitly says an internet connection is required. Confirm that the service carries the stations you want in your country. myTuner FAQ and Samsung app description.
iHeart
iHeart’s support instructions describe launching the app through Android Auto, and its Google Play listing advertises thousands of live AM and FM stations. The cited sources do not establish consistent availability outside supported markets, so check whether the app and your chosen stations are offered where you live. iHeart Android Auto instructions and iHeart on Google Play.

Radioplayer
Radioplayer’s service documentation says its mobile app supports Android Auto. Radioplayer UK describes more than 500 stations available in-car through its UK service; that figure is specific to the UK, not a promise of the same catalog in every country. Its FAQ notes that a station may be unavailable because it is not part of the local service or because the selected country is wrong. Choose an app by checking your stations first
- Local coverage: Search for the specific local stations you listen to, not just a headline catalog count.
- Country support: Regional catalogs differ. For Radioplayer, confirm that the correct country is selected; for iHeart, verify local availability.
- Favorites in the car: Save a few stations in the app and check how quickly they appear in Android Auto’s interface while parked.
- Ads and paid features: TuneIn’s listing discloses advertising and in-app purchases. Check each app’s current terms for your region before assuming a feature is free.
- Data and reception: These are internet streams, not broadcasts received through your car antenna. Mobile coverage and data availability affect listening.
Set up and test Android Auto radio before driving
- Install the radio app from your phone’s app store and sign in if the service requires an account.
- While parked, connect your phone to Android Auto and open the app launcher on the car display.
- Select the radio app, find a station, and save it as a favorite if the app offers that feature.
- Check that the station plays and that the audio is clear before you leave. If the app does not appear, confirm Android Auto compatibility and that you are signed in; Google notes that Play Store compatibility views may vary with account sign-in and personalization settings.
Use the car display and voice controls supported by your app and vehicle while driving. Voice-command behavior is not established for every app, vehicle, or region; do not browse or manipulate the phone in motion. For compatible media-app setup, see Google’s Android Auto guidance.
