The Anbernic RG DDS is not yet a buy-now alternative: reporting on its teaser describes promising screens and a Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 chip, but does not establish a release date, final price, or tested performance. If you need a handheld now, compare available listings and confirmed specifications rather than treating teaser details or promotional demos as proof of how games will run.
What is the Anbernic RG DDS, and what is confirmed?
GamesRadar reported on October 9, 2026, that Anbernic had teased the RG DDS in a video. The report describes a 3DS-inspired dual-screen handheld with a 4.7-inch, 720 × 1200 upper display, a 4-inch, 960 × 720 lower display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 chipset, an integrated stylus, and two full-size thumbsticks. These are details reported from the teaser, not independently verified final specifications or test results. GamesRadar’s RG DDS report
The same report says the design has buttons for emulation and system functions and omits a cartridge slot. That means the reported design is for emulation and digital software, not playing original cartridges directly. Neither a final retail price nor a release date is established by the report.
How does the RG DDS compare with the Anbernic RG DS?
The RG DS is the more concrete comparison: Anbernic’s official product page lists its specifications, while the RG DDS details remain teaser reporting. The RG DS has two 4-inch, 640 × 480 IPS multi-touch displays, an RK3568 quad-core processor, 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage, and Android 14/Linux 64-bit. Anbernic also lists Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, and microSD/TF expansion up to 2 TB. Anbernic RG DS product page

Anbernic lists a 4,000 mAh battery and six-hour battery life for the RG DS; the runtime is the manufacturer’s claim, not an independently measured result. Its product page displayed a $94.99 sale price against a $99.99 regular price when accessed in 2026, but also showed the device as sold out. Those page figures are not a reliable current checkout quote. Anbernic RG DS product page
How does the RG DDS compare with the Retroid Pocket Duo Lite?
The Retroid Pocket Duo Lite is another reported dual-screen option, but the cited GamesRadar article also said it had no announced release date. GamesRadar reported a $149 announced price and a Qualcomm QCS6125 chipset, with 5.5-inch and 4.5-inch IPS displays. Its report mentions a demonstration of Mario Kart 7 running at 2× resolution; that is a promotional demo, not an independent performance test or proof of typical gameplay. The available reports do not support a performance verdict between the Retroid and RG DDS. Their chip names alone do not establish which games will run well, at what settings, or with what emulator compatibility. The $149 figure is an announced price, not a verified current checkout price.
Where do AYN Thor, OneXSugar, and AYANEO Flip 1S DS fit?
AYN Thor and OneXSugar
Retro Handhelds identifies the AYN Thor and OneXSugar among dual-screen options, alongside the Anbernic RG DS. Its article describes the Retroid Duo line as roughly $150 to $250-plus in that market context. That is not enough to establish current prices or make a detailed specification comparison for AYN Thor and OneXSugar. Retro Handhelds’ comparison coverage

AYANEO Flip 1S DS
The Flip 1S DS is in a different price and product class: PC Gamer reported a 7-inch 144 Hz OLED upper panel and a 4.5-inch 1080p IPS lower panel, with an entry Ryzen 7 8840U configuration reported at $799 in 2025. Treat that as a dated report, not a current price or availability check. It is a premium handheld PC comparator rather than a close budget substitute. PC Gamer’s AYANEO report

Screen layout and touch
Compare both panels—not just the larger one—including resolution, size, aspect and orientation, and touch support. Anbernic documents the RG DS’s two touch displays; the RG DDS screen dimensions and resolutions are reported from its teaser. The available information does not establish a hands-on comparison of visibility, hinge behavior, or stylus reach.

Emulation and game performance
Look for testing of the specific systems and games you care about, including emulator compatibility and resolution settings. The RG DDS chipset specification is not a performance result, and the Retroid Mario Kart 7 example is a reported demo. Neither establishes broader game compatibility or sustained performance.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsControls and comfort
Stick placement, button layout, device weight, grip, hinge position, and how easily you can reach the lower screen all affect long sessions. The RG DDS teaser reportedly shows two full-size sticks and a stylus, but there is no hands-on comfort assessment in the cited coverage.

Availability and total price
Check a live retailer listing before making a buy-now decision. The RG DS page showed sold out when accessed in 2026; the cited RG DDS and Retroid coverage did not establish release dates. Announced or dated report prices are not substitutes for a current checkout total, including shipping and taxes.
Quick Recap
Should you wait for the RG DDS or buy another handheld now?
- Wait for more RG DDS information if its reported 3DS-inspired layout, higher-resolution panels, or Snapdragon chipset are what you want. Make the decision after a final price, release information, and independent testing are available.
- Consider the RG DS if its documented specifications suit your needs, but verify stock and current pricing because Anbernic’s page showed it sold out when accessed in 2026.
- Consider the Retroid Pocket Duo Lite only when you can verify it is actually available; the cited report gave an announced $149 price but no release date.
- Look at the AYANEO Flip 1S DS only if you are shopping in the handheld-PC class, not for a like-for-like budget comparison. The reported 2025 entry price was $799 and needs current verification.
