ANBERNIC has begun removing optional, preloaded microSD-card bundles from several official-store handheld listings, according to reports published October 15, 2026. The RG SP listing now reportedly shows only a 16GB card, which is described as necessary for the device’s stock firmware, while larger add-on cards have disappeared. Android models including the RG Rotate also reportedly lost extra-card choices. The timing follows an Entertainment Software Association (ESA) submission to the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) alleging that ANBERNIC devices were routinely sold with cards containing unauthorized game copies, but ANBERNIC has not confirmed that the policy change was a response.
What changed in ANBERNIC’s official listings
Android Authority compared an archived August 14 RG SP page with the current storefront and found that the selectable microSD options had been reduced to a single 16GB choice. Retro Handhelds reported the same-day change and said the variants appeared to disappear in stages: some bundled-card choices were still visible when China shipping was selected before vanishing.
The reports also identified similar edits on Android handheld listings, including the RG Rotate. They do not establish that every ANBERNIC model or every regional storefront has changed, and they do not provide a complete model-by-model capacity or compatibility chart.

Why the 16GB firmware card is different
A firmware card and an optional expansion card serve different purposes. The RG SP reports describe the remaining 16GB card as necessary for the stock firmware, so removing it could prevent normal startup or recovery. Larger cards marketed for extra storage may contain games or other optional files, but the cited reports do not prove that every bundled card had the same contents.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Do not assume that buying an ANBERNIC handheld without an optional card means it will boot without any card. Check the exact product page, package contents and recovery instructions for your model before deleting, replacing or reformatting the supplied media.
Why the timing drew attention
Ars Technica reported that the ESA told the USTR that ANBERNIC devices “are routinely offered or shipped with removable memory cards preloaded with hundreds or thousands of unauthorized copies of copyright-protected video games published by ESA members.” The ESA also argued that polished, retail hardware can “normalize hardware-based piracy by delivering illicit catalogues through a polished consumer product.”

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Those statements are allegations in a policy submission, not a court finding. Android Authority said ANBERNIC had not confirmed that the storefront edits were caused by the ESA request. The timing is notable, but a causal connection remains unconfirmed.

What the USTR listing does—and does not—mean
The USTR’s March 3, 2026 release identified 37 online markets and 32 physical markets in its 2025 Notorious Markets List. USTR explicitly says the list is intended to raise awareness and help authorities prioritize intellectual-property enforcement; it is not an exhaustive list and does not itself constitute a finding of legal violations.

Ars Technica reported that appearing in the list would not automatically impose direct legal consequences on ANBERNIC, although it could precede additional scrutiny, enforcement steps or import-related action. The available reporting therefore supports describing policy pressure and allegations—not saying that ANBERNIC has been found guilty of piracy or that a specific investigation has been announced.
What buyers should do now
1. Separate firmware from expansion storage
Read the listing’s package-contents and system-storage sections. If the card is identified as carrying stock firmware, treat it as required boot media. An optional high-capacity card is a separate purchase decision.

2. Confirm the exact configuration at checkout
Save a screenshot of the selected capacity, shipping region and included accessories. Storefront variants can differ by destination, and the reported changes appeared staged.
3. If you need more space, buy a blank compatible card
You may need to purchase expansion storage separately. The cited reports do not establish a universal capacity limit for ANBERNIC’s Android handhelds, so verify the specific model’s supported capacity and card format in its manual or official support material before buying. A blank card does not include copyrighted games; you remain responsible for the files you copy to it.

4. Back up the original firmware media
Before experimenting with emulators, Android updates or custom files, make a backup of the supplied firmware card where your operating system and card-reader setup support a full image. Keep the original untouched so you can restore the factory configuration if the handheld stops booting.
5. Check third-party provenance
A reseller may still bundle a card even when ANBERNIC’s official store does not. Ask what is included, whether the card is new and whether its contents are licensed. A third-party “game card” is not evidence that the manufacturer officially supplied those files.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the RG Rotate still sold with a game-loaded SD card?
The October 15 reports say the RG Rotate lost additional microSD options on the Android listing. They do not provide a definitive, current statement that every RG Rotate package either includes or excludes a game-loaded card. Check the exact regional listing and the package description for the unit you are ordering; do not infer the contents from older screenshots or a reseller’s title.

Emulation software itself is not the same as distributing unauthorized game copies. Homebrew, public-domain software and personal backups may have different legal treatment depending on your country and how they were created. Copyright rules vary by jurisdiction, so obtain games and firmware through lawful channels and do not assume that a preloaded card is authorized merely because it arrived with a consumer device.
What is still unknown
- No published figure shows how many ANBERNIC listings changed or what percentage of sales used bundled cards.
- The reports do not supply a verified, model-by-model microSD capacity and compatibility table.
- ANBERNIC has not publicly confirmed that the ESA submission caused the storefront edits.
- The reporting does not establish the contents of every previously bundled card.
The Bottom Line
ANBERNIC’s official storefronts are reportedly phasing out optional, potentially ROM-laden microSD bundles while retaining a 16GB RG SP card needed for stock firmware. Treat the change as a purchasing and storage issue, not proof of a legal finding: verify your model’s firmware requirement, buy separate expansion media only after checking compatibility, and use content you are entitled to possess.
