Amp Crash is both a pedal-format guitar amp and a distortion effect: reviewer Terrence O’Brien describes it as a 3-watt amplifier with a 2-inch speaker and an internal microphone. That speaker-and-mic path is the key to its unusual sound. The microphone can send the speaker’s rough, physical output to a DAW or another amp, while a blend of direct signal can bring back some definition.
Is Amp Crash a guitar amp or a guitar pedal?
According to O’Brien’s August 20, 2026 review, it is both. The small amplifier and speaker sit inside a pedal-format enclosure, and an internal microphone captures the speaker’s sound. That makes Amp Crash different in approach from a pedal that relies only on a digital amp simulation: the review describes a physical speaker and microphone in the signal path. It does not provide a controlled comparison with digital simulators or measured performance results.
O’Brien calls it “an actual amp with an original design that moves air.” That is the reviewer’s description, not an independently verified specification or a general claim about how it will perform in every setup.

How the speaker-and-microphone signal works
The review says the internal microphone can feed the sound of the built-in speaker into a digital audio workstation (DAW) or another amplifier. A direct-signal blend is also available; O’Brien says blending it in can restore some definition to the mic’d sound. The result is a mix of the direct guitar signal and the sound captured from the device’s own speaker, rather than only a modeled amplifier tone.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The review does not establish latency, recording quality under particular conditions, or electrical specifications for the outputs. Treat its description as a guide to the signal path, not a guarantee about results with every interface, amp, or recording setup.
What Amp Crash sounds like at different gain settings
O’Brien’s sound descriptions are subjective listening impressions from the review, not standardized measurements. He reports that the sound remains harsh and boxy at low gain, with some edge even at the minimum setting. As gain passes roughly noon on the control, his description shifts from crunchy overdrive toward fuzz.

At higher gain, the tone control is said to range from a brighter, buzzsaw-like sound to a heavier, bass-forward sludge. Above roughly three o’clock, O’Brien reports speaker rattling, microphone crackle and clipping, compression, and natural feedback. These extreme settings are part of the device’s character as described in the review, rather than evidence that it is intended as a clean or general-purpose amp.

The review describes a selectable effect module with reverb, echo, or chorus, alongside depth and time controls. O’Brien characterizes the chorus as rubbery and resonant, the echo as crushed and capable of self-oscillation, and the reverb as metallic and abrasive. Those are his descriptions of the effects’ character; the review does not provide technical specifications for the effect circuitry.

Can you record it or connect another speaker?
For recording, the built-in microphone’s signal can be sent to a DAW, and the review says a direct signal can be blended with it. For another listening setup, O’Brien mentions both an external-speaker connection and a speaker-out connection. He also says that connecting a cable or 1/4-inch headphone adapter to the speaker-out jack disables the internal speaker.
The review does not state electrical requirements or confirm compatibility with particular cables, adapters, interfaces, or third-party speakers. Check the device’s current manufacturer documentation before connecting equipment; the review alone is not enough to establish safe or compatible specifications.

Who is this design for?
The review’s account points to Amp Crash as an experimental distortion device for players who want speaker-and-mic coloration, rougher gain textures, and abrasive onboard effects. Its low-gain sound is still described as boxy, and its more extreme settings emphasize fuzz, rattling, crackle, and feedback. That makes it a distinct creative option rather than an evidenced substitute for a clean, broadly useful practice amp. O’Brien’s own comparison with his Yamaha THR10 is personal judgment, not a universal recommendation.
