There is no evidence here to declare AMD or Arm the better-value stock in 2026: a fair buy decision requires same-date share prices and comparable valuation measures, which are not established by the available company results. The business-case distinction is clearer. AMD sells processors, graphics products and data-center accelerators; Arm primarily licenses processor IP and collects royalties when customers ship chips that use it. Arm also announced Arm-designed silicon products in 2026, expanding beyond its traditional model.
AMD vs. Arm stock: what is the main difference?
AMD and Arm participate in the semiconductor industry, but they make money in different ways. AMD designs and sells finished silicon products across Data Center, Client and Gaming, and Embedded. Its revenue depends on products shipped, selling prices and product mix. AMD also invests in software and systems around its products.
Arm’s established business is more licensing-led: it licenses processor and other intellectual property to semiconductor companies, OEMs, cloud providers and other customers, then earns royalties when customers ship chips containing Arm products. That means Arm’s results depend substantially on customers adopting its designs and shipping chips. Arm announced Arm-designed silicon products in 2026, but the available results do not establish how that activity will change its future revenue mix, investment needs or margins.
What do the latest reported results show?
The figures below are company-reported historical results, not forecasts. They use different reporting calendars: AMD’s FY2025 is an annual period, AMD’s Q2 FY2026 ended June 27, 2026, and Arm’s FY2026 ended March 31, 2026. Dollar amounts are U.S. dollars.

| Company and period | Reported results | How to read them |
|---|---|---|
| AMD FY2025 | Revenue of $34.6 billion, up 34% year over year. Data Center revenue was $16.6 billion, up 32%; Client and Gaming revenue was $14.6 billion, up 51%. | Annual company-reported results show growth across major businesses, but do not by themselves establish future growth or valuation. | AMD Q2 FY2026, quarter ended June 27, 2026 | Revenue of $11.5 billion, up 50% year over year; GAAP gross margin of 54%; net income of $2.3 billion; diluted GAAP EPS of $1.38. Data Center revenue was $6.7 billion, up 107% year over year. | AMD’s filing says the prior-year comparison was affected by inventory and related charges associated with U.S. government export controls on MI308 GPUs. | Arm FY2026, year ended March 31, 2026 | Revenue of $4.92 billion, compared with $4.007 billion in FY2025. Royalty revenue was $2.61 billion and licensing revenue was $2.31 billion. Statutory profit before tax was $960 million, compared with $756 million in FY2025. | The revenue mix illustrates Arm’s licensing and royalty streams. AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su described the August 4, 2026 quarter as “an excellent quarter, with record revenue and profitability as Data Center revenue more than doubled year-over-year.” That is management commentary on reported performance, not independent confirmation of future results or a forecast of stock returns.
Which company benefits more from AI?
AMD has more direct product-sales exposure
AMD sells processors, graphics products and data-center accelerators, so demand for AI-related computing can translate into product sales and affect its Data Center segment. Its Q2 FY2026 Data Center growth is evidence of reported segment performance in that quarter; it is not proof that the same growth rate will continue or that AI demand guarantees shareholder returns.

Arm can benefit through adoption and shipments
Arm can benefit when customers adopt its IP and ship chips containing it, including in markets influenced by AI-related computing. Its licensing and royalty model means the link to demand is mediated by customers’ designs and shipments. The 2026 announcement of Arm-designed silicon adds a potential product-sales dimension, but the available financial results do not quantify its future contribution.

Is AMD or Arm a better investment for your approach?
AMD may suit an investor seeking a product-led semiconductor business
AMD’s results are tied to sales across several product markets, including Data Center and Client and Gaming. That offers exposure to multiple business lines, while also making performance sensitive to product mix, shipments and execution. AMD’s FY2025 and Q2 FY2026 results show historical growth, not a promise that those rates will persist.
Arm may suit an investor seeking licensing and royalty economics
Arm’s established model earns licensing revenue and royalties connected to customers’ chip shipments. An investor evaluating it should consider whether customer adoption and shipment growth can support the business, as well as how the announced silicon expansion might affect the model. The available results do not show that the newer silicon activity has economics identical to licensing and royalties.

What could go wrong with either investment?
AMD’s execution and external risks
AMD’s filings describe intense competition, rapid technology change, product obsolescence and the challenge of delivering products on schedule. The company also relies on third parties for manufacturing and components, and identifies exposure to regulation and export controls as well as significant-customer risks. These factors can affect product availability, costs and sales.

Arm depends on customers choosing its designs and shipping chips that incorporate its products. Investors should assess competitive alternatives, customer concentration and the risks described in Arm’s detailed filings. Its move into Arm-designed silicon could broaden its opportunity, but also means investors should examine the distinct execution and financial implications rather than assuming licensing economics apply unchanged.

How to decide which stock is the better buy
First establish a matched valuation snapshot for both companies using the same market date. Then compare earnings measures on a consistent basis. A company with faster reported revenue growth is not automatically the better buy if its share price already reflects higher expectations.
- Compare market values on the same date. Use each company’s share price and diluted share count from the same date to calculate market capitalization.
- Compare earnings and valuation consistently. Review trailing and forward earnings estimates and valuation multiples on comparable accounting bases. Do not mix GAAP EPS with non-GAAP EPS or company guidance with analyst consensus without labeling the difference.
- Align reporting periods. AMD’s calendar-year and quarterly results do not line up exactly with Arm’s fiscal year ending March 31. Note the period attached to every growth or profit figure.
- Test whether expectations are achievable. Consider segment performance, margins, customer demand, competitive pressure and each company’s execution risks—not just total revenue growth.
- Decide whether the business model matches your thesis. AMD offers product-sales exposure across several markets; Arm’s established earnings engine is licensing and royalties, with announced silicon products adding a developing dimension.
Without matched share prices, diluted share counts, forward estimates and comparable valuation multiples, a price-based winner cannot be established from these results. Arm’s official results calendar scheduled its Q2 FY2027 webcast for November 4, 2026; as of October 11, 2026, that release was still in the future, so its results are not included here.
