AMD has announced EPYC Verano as a future 6th Gen server CPU for cloud and AI workloads, with LPDDR memory innovations planned. But AMD has not confirmed that Verano has 192 cores—or published its final core count, socket, memory configuration, launch date or performance. The 192-core figure belongs to a different EPYC processor, the 9965. A later report attributes up to 72 cores and 24-channel LPDDR5X to Verano, but those details remain unverified by AMD.
What AMD has confirmed about EPYC Verano
AMD announced Verano on May 21, 2026, as a future 6th Gen EPYC processor following Venice. The announcement says AMD expects Verano to include LPDDR memory innovations for cloud and AI workloads. It does not give a core count or final product specifications. AMD’s announcement also places Verano in the context of its planned expansion of 2nm products; it does not establish Verano’s own process node.
AMD later named EPYC Verano as the CPU for its planned Helios 500 rackscale solution, alongside AMD Instinct MI500 GPUs and Pensando networking. That identifies a planned system role, not a system or processor that is already available to buy. AMD’s AAI 2026 announcement does not provide Verano’s SKU list, price, release date or detailed specifications.
Does EPYC Verano have 192 cores?
No official AMD source cited here says Verano has 192 cores. AMD’s July 2026 EPYC blog and AAI materials identify the EPYC 9965 as a 192-core, 384-thread processor. They also identify the EPYC 9996 as a 256-core, 512-thread processor. Those figures describe those processors, not Verano. AMD’s EPYC blog discusses 6th Gen EPYC 9006 in the Venice context; its family specifications should not be transferred to Verano without confirmation.

Tom’s Hardware reported on October 8, 2026, that preliminary third-party evidence suggested Verano could have up to 72 Zen 6 cores. That is a reported possibility, not an AMD-confirmed count. The same report says AMD had not disclosed the specifications, dimensions or capabilities of the reported SB1 socket, and notes uncertainty around the preliminary cooler listing and its power implications. Tom’s Hardware’s report should therefore be treated as preliminary rather than a final product specification.
What is known about Verano’s memory?
AMD has said Verano is expected to include LPDDR memory innovations, but its announcement does not specify the memory generation, channel count, capacity, bandwidth or module format. In particular, AMD has not confirmed LPDDR5X support for Verano in the cited official materials.

Why AMD positions Verano for AI infrastructure
AMD’s announced positioning connects Verano to cloud and AI workloads, and its planned Helios 500 role puts the CPU alongside accelerators and networking. That matters because an AI rack does more than run accelerator inference: CPUs can also handle orchestration, data movement and other host-side work. The system role is not evidence that Verano has achieved any particular performance level.

In its July 2026 discussion of agentic AI, AMD describes a workload that can involve context assembly, planning and routing, retrieval, enterprise and ephemeral tools, verification, and response streaming. AMD says results depend on the full system—including compute, memory, storage, networking, orchestration software and runtime isolation—not just the CPU. Its benchmark discussion focuses on CPU-centric stages and explicitly excludes GPU inference performance. The blog’s performance claims are AMD’s own: it reports an 82% geometric-mean performance uplift for EPYC 9005 and a 174% uplift for EPYC 9006 versus Intel Xeon 6980P in selected CPU-centric agentic AI tests. Neither figure is a Verano measurement.

AMD has not published final Verano SKUs, core and thread counts, price, launch date, exact socket details, memory capacity or bandwidth, or Verano-specific benchmark results in the cited official announcements. The secondary report does not settle those specifications. Until AMD or a system vendor publishes definitive details, treat claims about Verano’s core count, socket and memory configuration as provisional.

For a future system comparison, wait for confirmed specifications and evaluate core and thread counts, memory capacity and bandwidth, host-to-accelerator connectivity, power, workload-specific performance and system availability together. A core count alone will not establish how a rack performs on an agentic AI workload.
