There is no five-setting preset that improves every Radeon gaming PC. Check these five AMD Adrenalin controls and change only the ones that fit your game, display, and priorities: Radeon Anti-Lag for responsiveness, Radeon Chill for lower power and heat, Radeon Image Sharpening for a crisper image, FreeSync or Enhanced Sync for display behavior, and GPU tuning for a specific performance, noise, or thermal goal.

Before changing settings: choose global or per-game

Adrenalin options and their effects depend on the GPU, display, game, and system configuration. AMD’s examples use different software versions and hardware, so your menus may differ. Its graphics profiles can recommend settings based on hardware and display capabilities; HYPR-RX, in particular, is not available on every Radeon card. AMD’s graphics profile documentation describes those recommendations and hardware-dependent availability.

A global Graphics change affects desktop games and applications when they launch. Game profiles inherit global values by default, but a profile’s own setting overrides the global one. If you want a control for only one game, use that game’s profile rather than changing the global setting. AMD explains the scope and profile behavior in its Adrenalin graphics settings instructions.

1. Radeon Anti-Lag: try it when responsiveness matters

Anti-Lag dynamically adjusts frame timing to reduce the delay between input and on-screen response. AMD says it works best in GPU-limited scenarios; it is not a guaranteed improvement in every game or system. The documented interface has it disabled by default, and AMD says you can enable it globally or for an individual game. AMD’s Anti-Lag and Chill instructions explain the feature and its controls.

Samsung 27" Odyssey G5 (G51F) Series QHD (1440P) Gaming Monitor
  • QHD Resolution (2560 x 1440) has 1.7 times the pixel density of Full HD for incredibly detailed pinsharp images
  • HDR10 provides brighter highlights and nuanced shadow for added depth - making every scene feel more vivid and realistic
  • The 180Hz refresh rate minimizes lag for gameplay with ultra-smooth action. Plus, the 1ms response time helps capture your moves in real-time, allowing you to react fast for gaming precision
  • AMD FreeSync reduces choppiness, screen lag and image tearing, ensuring that your fast-paced, complex in-game action is stable with minimal stutter
  • Ergonomic stand allows for tilt, pivot and height adjustments to maximize gaming comfort

Try Anti-Lag in a supported game where input responsiveness is a priority, then judge how it feels in your own setup. Do not treat it as an automatic frame-rate boost.

2. Radeon Chill: use it when lower heat or power is worth variable frame rates

Chill dynamically regulates a game’s frame rate in response to character and camera movement. AMD positions it as a way to conserve power and reduce heat, so it suits players who accept a variable frame rate in exchange for those priorities.

Dell 27 240Hz Gaming Monitor - SE2726HG - 27-inch FHD (1920x1080) Display, in-Plane Switching (IPS) Technology, AMD FreeSync Premium, TÜV 3-Star, 2X HDMI, DisplayPort 1.4, Tilt
  • Smooth motion: 240Hz refresh rate and fast 0.5ms response time provide crisp visuals and fluid movement with less input lag.
  • Seamless gaming: FreeSync Premium and HDMI VRR eliminate tearing for smooth, responsive PC and console gameplay.
  • Fast IPS: Faster 0.5ms response with excellent color accuracy across wide IPS viewing angles.
  • Rich color: 99% sRGB color coverage delivers vivid, detailed imagery with strong accuracy.
  • Eye comfort: TÜV Rheinland 3‑star certified display lowers blue light while preserving color quality.

Chill does not work alongside Anti-Lag or Radeon Boost: turning Chill on disables either feature if active. Choose between these controls according to what matters in that game instead of expecting them to stack. AMD documents this interaction in its Anti-Lag and Chill instructions.

3. Radeon Image Sharpening: tune the look to your preference

Image Sharpening enhances perceived visual detail, but the result is subjective. Start with a restrained setting and decide in the game you actually play whether the image looks better to you; there is no universally optimal slider value established by AMD’s instructions.

Enable the feature before launching the game or application for it to take effect. You can configure it globally or for a specific game. See AMD’s Radeon Image Sharpening instructions for the setup details.

4. FreeSync or Enhanced Sync: pick the option that fits your display and frame rate

FreeSync for a compatible display

FreeSync matches the display’s refresh rate to the GPU’s frame rate to address stutter or tearing. It depends on display support, so check that your monitor and system support the feature before looking for the toggle. The setting is not a reason by itself to buy a new monitor.

Enhanced Sync when frame rates exceed display refresh

AMD describes Enhanced Sync as a low-latency, tear-free option for situations where a game’s frame rate exceeds the display’s refresh rate. The AMD overlay guide identifies it as disabled by default. Its use case differs from FreeSync’s, so choose according to your display and how your frame rate behaves. AMD covers both features in its Radeon overlay and metrics guide.

5. GPU tuning: use a preset only for a defined goal

Adrenalin offers presets and automatic or manual GPU tuning to adjust performance, acoustics, and thermals. Available controls vary by system, and global tuning applies across the GPU unless you use a game profile. AMD’s GPU tuning instructions describe the available approaches.

  • FPS-RTS Game Modes: FPS and RTS are Sceptre's custom set display settings built for an enhanced gaming experience. FPS (First Person Shooter), RTS (Real-Time Strategy).

Make a change only when you have a specific goal, such as balancing noise against performance. Do not assume overclocking is a free performance gain or that one preset is universally safe: AMD does not provide a single preset suited to every card. If your system becomes unstable, return to the prior setting rather than treating the change as mandatory.

How to decide which changes to keep

These controls address competing priorities, not one universal performance ranking. Compare them against the outcome you care about:

  • Input responsiveness: try Anti-Lag in a GPU-limited game.
  • Power and heat: consider Chill if variable frame rates are acceptable.
  • Image appearance: judge Image Sharpening in your own game.
  • Display behavior: use FreeSync only with compatible display support; consider Enhanced Sync when frame rate exceeds refresh rate.
  • Noise, thermals, or performance: tune the GPU only toward a specific goal.

AMD’s documentation describes what the features are intended to do, not guaranteed FPS gains, latency reductions, or temperature changes. Change one relevant control at a time and keep it only if the result suits your setup.
