Ambrosia Energy has started work on a planned 150,000-square-foot battery factory near Austin, Texas. The plant is designed to make up to 10 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery packs for Ambrosia’s own solar-plus-battery power plants, which are aimed at supplying data centers and industrial customers with continuous renewable electricity.

TechCrunch reported on October 14, 2026, that full production is expected in two to three years. Ambrosia co-founder and CEO Ben Longmier said the output could support roughly 300 megawatts (MW) of power-plant capacity each year. This is an integrated power-generation project, not a conventional retail battery launch.

What Ambrosia is building in Texas

A 10 GWh battery factory near Austin

The planned facility will cover about 150,000 square feet and have 10 GWh of annual battery-production capacity, according to TechCrunch’s October 2026 report. Ambrosia says it buys battery cells and manufactures the packs itself. The company uses LFP chemistry, which is commonly selected for stationary storage because it emphasizes cycle life and thermal stability rather than the highest possible energy density.

Longmier told TechCrunch: “That allows us to build about a 300 megawatt power plant per year out at our field sites.” The statement describes the factory’s intended contribution to Ambrosia’s own field projects; it does not mean the factory will produce 300 MW of electricity by itself.

  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Production is still in the build-out phase

TechCrunch reported that full production is expected in two to three years. Ambrosia emerged from stealth in June 2026 with a plan to develop solar-and-battery plants for data centers. Its manufacturing strategy is intended to reduce the number of outside components and shorten the time required to deploy a complete plant.

How an off-grid data-center plant would work

  1. Solar generation during the day: Solar arrays supply the data center’s daytime load and send surplus electricity to the batteries.
  2. Battery charging: The LFP packs store energy for periods when sunlight is unavailable.
  3. Continuous discharge: Batteries provide power at night and during cloudy weather so the facility can continue operating without relying on a utility connection.
  4. Power-plant control: The solar, battery, inverters and site controls operate as one plant sized around the customer’s continuous load.

Ambrosia’s materials describe off-grid service as the default, with grid-tied service available on request. The model is therefore closer to a privately developed renewable power plant than to a battery sold for a customer to install independently.

What 10 GWh means for data-center capacity

GWh measures stored energy; MW measures the rate at which a plant can deliver power. A 10 GWh factory could make many different combinations of battery size and power rating, depending on the projects Ambrosia builds. It is not a promise that every customer will receive a 10 GWh battery.

For scale, a continuous 30 MW load consumes 720 megawatt-hours (MWh) in 24 hours before accounting for conversion losses or reserve margins. That is why a data-center plant must combine a large solar field with storage sized for the site’s weather, operating reserve and desired reliability.

Ambrosia’s projects are not all the same configuration

Ambrosia has described several project sizes. They should not be treated as one finalized design.

Project description Configuration Status or evidence
Power-plant example reported by TechCrunch 300 MW of solar plus 660 MWh of batteries intended to provide 30 MW continuously TechCrunch, 2026; company goal of 99.3% uptime
Next project described on Ambrosia’s website 200 MW of solar supplying 20 MW continuously Company description; separate from the 300 MW/660 MWh example
West Texas pilot Sections reported to generate 200 kilowatts continuously TechCrunch said sections had operated continuously for more than 100 days
West Texas pilot uptime statement 100% uptime over 30 days Ambrosia’s own website; a different reporting window from TechCrunch’s account

Can solar and batteries run an AI data center off-grid 24/7?

Technically, a solar-and-storage plant can be sized to serve a continuous data-center load, but “24/7” depends on engineering margins rather than the nameplate battery capacity alone. Designers must account for prolonged cloud cover, seasonal solar variation, battery round-trip losses, inverter limits, maintenance, spare equipment and the consequences of an outage.

Ambrosia’s 300 MW solar-plus-660 MWh example pairs a very large solar field with storage and targets a 30 MW continuous output. The company’s website also advertises 24-hour LFP storage, 100% renewable power and a 99.9% capacity-factor figure. Those are company claims, not independently audited operating results. The pilot reports are encouraging but cover limited periods and much smaller output than a commercial data center.

Is Ambrosia selling batteries or selling power?

Ambrosia is positioning the factory as part of a vertically integrated power-plant platform. Its stated business is to build and own solar-plus-battery plants, then sell continuous renewable electricity directly to data-center and industrial customers. Customers may co-locate on Ambrosia land or have a plant built on their own property, and the company invites organizations seeking 10–100 MW of continuous renewable power.

That model differs from buying a standardized battery rack. Ambrosia has not identified a retail battery pack, replacement module or consumer product associated with the Texas factory. Longmier said the company buys existing cells but makes its own packs in-house, with “the fewest parts by a factor of about 100 compared to any other competitor we’ve seen.” That is his comparison, not an independently verified industry measurement.

What Ambrosia’s cost and reliability claims mean

Claim What it covers How to read it
$100/MWh Target electricity cost listed by Ambrosia A company target; no independently audited delivered cost is stated in Ambrosia’s published materials in 2026
99.9% reliability or availability Ambrosia’s stated service objective Company claim; not proof of commercial operating history
99.3% uptime Goal attached to the 300 MW solar/660 MWh, 30 MW continuous example Project goal reported by TechCrunch
Under one year Ambrosia’s stated development ambition The launch announcement says a plant should be deliverable in 12 months, not a decade; this is a target, not an audited result

Delivered cost will depend on land, interconnection or microgrid equipment, financing, solar oversizing, battery replacement, reserves and the customer’s required service level. A quoted energy price should therefore be evaluated together with the contract’s availability definition, curtailment rules, backup arrangements and responsibility for replacing batteries.

How the plan compares with conventional options

For a data-center operator, the meaningful comparison is not simply “battery versus generator.” It is a comparison of complete power systems.

Decision axis Ambrosia’s proposed model Questions a buyer still needs answered
Deployment Ambrosia targets delivery in about 12 months and says its factory is intended to shorten deployment When will the Austin factory be operational, and what is the schedule for a specific site?
Renewable share Company materials describe 100% renewable power How is output maintained during extended low-solar periods?
Storage duration 24-hour LFP storage is a company-described capability; project sizing varies What duration and reserve margin are guaranteed in the contract?
Grid dependence Off-grid by default; grid-tied service available on request What happens during a plant outage or exceptional weather event?
Ownership model Ambrosia proposes building plants on its land or a customer’s land and selling power Who owns the equipment, carries performance risk and funds replacement?
Evidence Factory and commercial targets are planned; pilot results are company-reported and independently reported in limited windows Which guarantees are backed by operating data, warranties and financial remedies?

What happens next

The immediate milestone is construction and commissioning of the Austin-area factory. If the two-to-three-year schedule holds, Ambrosia would then need to ramp production, qualify pack designs and deploy enough field capacity to demonstrate the stated cost and uptime targets at commercial scale.

Prospective customers should request a site-specific energy model rather than relying on the factory’s 10 GWh headline. That model should show hourly solar production, battery state of charge, outage scenarios, degradation assumptions, maintenance windows and the exact definition of “continuous” power.
