Amazon’s tablet family is called Fire; “Alexa tablet” is not a separate tablet line in the official Amazon documentation cited here. Alexa is a feature on compatible Fire tablets. Some compatible models also offer Show Mode, a separate visual, Echo Show-like experience—but support depends on the exact model and generation.
Does Amazon make an Alexa tablet?
Amazon identifies its tablets as Fire devices. “Alexa tablet” is a casual way to describe a compatible Fire tablet that can use Alexa, not the name of a distinct Amazon tablet family. Amazon’s support page says, “Ask questions, shop, search, play music, and more on your compatible Fire tablet.” Amazon Customer Service: Learn About Using Alexa on Your Fire Tablet
That wording matters: Alexa availability is not universal across every Fire tablet. Check the specifications and support information for the exact model and generation rather than assuming that every Fire tablet has the same Alexa features.
What is the difference between Alexa and Show Mode?
Alexa voice use and Show Mode are related but distinct. In tablet mode, Alexa Hands-Free lets you make voice requests while continuing to use the tablet normally. Show Mode changes the screen to a visual, Alexa-focused layout similar to an Echo Show. Amazon’s developer documentation distinguishes these as separate tablet experiences. Alexa in tablet mode
On a compatible device, you can ask Alexa questions or use supported voice functions while keeping the regular tablet interface available. Amazon says Alexa Hands-Free can be switched off in settings. It also describes a blue light bar as an indicator when Alexa is recording and sending a request, and says users can review or delete recordings. Settings and indicators may vary by model.
Show Mode
Show Mode presents Alexa information visually, making a supported Fire tablet more like a stationary smart display. It is not simply another name for Alexa or a feature to assume is included on every Fire tablet. Amazon’s compatibility page lists supported devices, software requirements, and models that do not support it. Amazon Customer Service: Switch to Show Mode on Your Fire Tablet

Which Fire tablets support Show Mode?
Compatibility is model- and generation-specific. For example, Amazon lists the Fire HD 10 (11th Generation) as compatible, but lists the Fire HD 10 (13th Generation) and Fire Max 11 (13th Generation) as incompatible. A newer generation is therefore not automatically more likely to support Show Mode. Consult Amazon’s current compatibility list for the exact device and required software version before buying or relying on this feature.

What do Fire tablet names and generations mean?
In names such as Fire HD 10 or Fire HD 8, the number refers to the tablet’s screen size measured diagonally. The generation identifies the release year under Amazon’s naming guide. These labels help identify the hardware, but they do not by themselves establish Alexa Hands-Free or Show Mode compatibility.
As one model-specific example, Amazon describes the Fire HD 10 (2023, 13th Generation) as having a 10.1-inch 1080p display and 3 GB of RAM. Those figures apply to that model, not to all Fire tablets. Amazon Developer: Amazon Fire Tablets
Does the Show Mode Charging Dock work with every Fire tablet?
No. The dock has a narrower compatibility list than Show Mode itself. Amazon says the Show Mode Charging Dock supports 7th Generation Fire HD 8 and Fire HD 10 tablets, and 8th Generation Fire HD 8 tablets; it says no other devices are supported at this time. Check the dock’s current compatibility information before purchasing it. Amazon Customer Service: Use the Show Mode Charging Dock

Quick Recap
How should you choose?
- For general tablet use with occasional voice requests: choose a Fire model whose specifications confirm the Alexa features you want.
- For an Echo Show-like visual display: confirm that the exact Fire model and its software version support Show Mode; do not infer compatibility from screen size or release date.
- If you want to use a dock: verify the tablet’s exact generation against the dock’s limited supported-device list.
- For screen, keyboard, or stylus needs: compare the specifications and accessory compatibility for the exact tablet. Amazon lists the 2023 Fire HD 10 as compatible with a Made for Amazon Stylus Pen and Amazon Bluetooth Keyboard Case; that example does not establish compatibility for other models.
