The Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro is not simply a renamed Fire Tablet. Amazon describes its Alexa Tablet family as a new product line with new hardware and a new operating system; the new tablets run Android with Google Play access, while TechCrunch reports that Amazon’s earlier tablets ran Fire OS and used Amazon’s app store. The most important practical difference is therefore the software ecosystem, followed by the 12 Pro’s large display and productivity accessories. A precise price or specification winner depends on which Fire model you mean.
Is the Alexa Tablet 12 Pro a Fire Tablet rebrand?
No, according to Amazon’s description reported by TechCrunch. The outlet says an Amazon spokesperson characterized the Alexa Tablets as an all-new line with new hardware and a new operating system, rather than a Fire Tablet rebrand. The distinction matters: “Fire Tablet” refers to a range, not one directly comparable device, and the available information does not establish current specifications for every Fire model.
The name can also cause confusion. “Alexa Tablet Pro” is shorthand; Amazon’s announced product name is Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro. It is the largest and productivity-oriented option in a three-model Alexa Tablet family.

Amazon says the Alexa Tablets run Android and include access to the full Google Play Store. They also include Amazon experiences such as Prime Video, Kindle, Audible, Amazon Music, Amazon Quick, and Amazon Luna. TechCrunch reports that earlier Amazon tablets ran Fire OS and shipped with Amazon’s own app store. This is a distinction between the new line and the earlier platform description, not proof that every Fire model has identical app support or current software features.

What does the Alexa Tablet 12 Pro offer?
Display and design
The 12 Pro has a 12-inch display with 280 pixels per inch, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 3:2 aspect ratio. Amazon offers a standard display and an optional Nanomatte anti-glare version. The tablet has an aluminum unibody design.
Performance and connectivity
Amazon lists a 4nm, eight-core chip, configurations with up to 16GB of RAM, quad Dolby Atmos speakers, and Wi-Fi 6E. It says the tablet can play video for up to 16 hours. These are manufacturer specifications and claims, not independent comparative test results.

Pen and keyboard
Amazon says the Pro Pen and Pro Keyboard are designed exclusively for the 12 Pro. The Pro Pen is a USI 2.0 active pen with 4,096 pressure levels, tilt detection, magnetic docking, and wireless charging. The keyboard attaches magnetically without Bluetooth pairing. Amazon’s announced U.S. prices were $89.99 for the pen and $149.99 for the keyboard; check current listings and compatibility before buying.
How does the 12 Pro compare with the other Alexa Tablets?
Amazon announced three models. Their specifications and announced U.S. starting prices help show where the 12 Pro fits, but the prices are announcement figures rather than a guarantee of current checkout prices.
| Model | Display and distinguishing details | Announced U.S. starting price |
| Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro | 12-inch, 280 PPI, 120Hz, 3:2; standard or optional Nanomatte display; exclusive Pro Pen and Pro Keyboard | $499.99; $549.99 for Nanomatte |

| Amazon Alexa Tablet 8 | 8.7-inch display; 329g; 7.95mm thick; Wi-Fi 6; up to 14 hours of video playback | $229.99 |
Amazon also describes a Kindle reading mode that silences notifications, reduces blue light, and can extend battery life to up to 20 hours while reading. Treat that as Amazon’s stated use-case figure, not independently tested battery life.

What can you fairly compare with a Fire Tablet?
The available information does not identify a current Fire model and configuration for a like-for-like comparison. It therefore cannot support a reliable model-to-model verdict on price, screen, battery life, performance, or accessory compatibility. Before comparing, choose a specific Fire model, check its current specifications, and compare live prices in the same country.

At the product-line level, the supported contrast is narrower: Amazon positions the Alexa Tablets as a new Android line with Google Play and Alexa+, while TechCrunch describes earlier Amazon tablets as Fire OS devices using Amazon’s app store. Do not assume every Fire model shares the same hardware or app support.

Quick Recap
Which one should you choose?
- Choose the Alexa Tablet 12 Pro if you want the new Android-and-Google-Play experience, a 12-inch 120Hz display, and the option to use Amazon’s dedicated pen and keyboard accessories.
- Consider the Alexa Tablet 11 or 8 if you want an Alexa Tablet but prefer the smaller sizes and lower announced starting prices in the same product family.
- Compare against a Fire Tablet by model if price or hardware value is your deciding factor. Verify a current Fire model and its live price in your market rather than treating “Fire Tablet” as one specification set.
