Xbox supports mouse and keyboard input on a title-by-title basis, not across every game. The Microsoft Store’s Console Keyboard & Mouse filter currently surfaces 35 games, while a maintained third-party list tracks more than 100 Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S titles, including games with limited support. Xbox Cloud Gaming is a separate pool: Xbox reported more than 190 cloud-playable games with mouse-and-keyboard support on April 30, 2026.
How Xbox mouse-and-keyboard support works
Xbox’s own guidance says wired USB mice and keyboards work for navigation in select games and apps and that a keyboard can be used to get around the Xbox interface. A game must separately implement the input method; plugging in a keyboard does not make every controller-only title compatible.
Support can also vary by mode. A title may accept mouse aiming and keyboard movement during play but still require a controller for its title screen, account selection, tutorials or other menus. Treat “keyboard and mouse support” as a game-specific capability rather than a console-wide setting.
The official Microsoft Store catalog
The Microsoft Store’s Console Keyboard & Mouse catalog showed 35 items when checked on October 17, 2026. Store tagging is the most direct way to verify Microsoft’s current classification, but the catalog changes as games are updated or added. The following titles were among the games surfaced by that filter:

This is a snapshot of the live filter, not a permanent master list. A title can disappear, gain support through a patch or be replaced by a newer edition, so check the Store listing for the exact edition you own.
What the larger maintained list adds
A maintained Xbox One and Xbox Series guide tracks more than 100 games, substantially more than the Store page. It includes titles such as 7 Days to Die 1.0, Abiotic Factor, Age of Empires IV: Anniversary Edition, Age of Mythology: Retold, Aimlabs, Alan Wake 2, Aliens: Dark Descent, Anno 117: Pax Romana, Assassin’s Creed games, Civilization VII, Cyberpunk 2077, Fortnite, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Minecraft, Sea of Thieves and Starfield.

Use that broader list to discover games the Store filter may not currently surface, but read each entry’s limitation label. The guide warns that some games support only a keyboard or only a mouse, while others still require a controller to move through menus. “Supported” therefore does not always mean a complete controller replacement.

Recent additions and why lists change
An Xbox Wire update published June 23, 2025 identified Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Blue Prince, Mullet MadJack, Planet Coaster 2, Planet Zoo: Console Edition, Smite 2 and Zenless Zone Zero as 2025 mouse-and-keyboard additions. These announcements show why an older static list can quickly become incomplete.
Game patches, console editions and input-support rollouts can change the result without changing the game’s name. Always verify the edition, platform and current Store capability tags before buying a title specifically for mouse-and-keyboard play.

Xbox Cloud Gaming is a separate compatibility list
Cloud play does not automatically inherit the installed-console list. Xbox reported more than 190 games with mouse-and-keyboard support active on Xbox Cloud Gaming on April 30, 2026. The latest additions named in that update were Amazing Maze, Dragonkin: The Banished, Easy Delivery Co., Planet of Lana 2: Children of the Leaf, Super Meat Boy 3D and Sword and Fairy Together Forever.

When you play through the cloud, verify three things separately: that the game is available in your region and subscription catalog, that the cloud version supports mouse and keyboard, and that your browser or Xbox app recognizes the connected devices. A game can support the controls when installed on a console but not yet support them in its cloud stream, or vice versa.

How to connect a mouse and keyboard
- Connect a wired USB keyboard and wired USB mouse to the Xbox console. Xbox’s documented guidance specifically covers wired USB peripherals.
- Open the game after both devices are connected. Some titles detect the devices only at launch, so restart the game if the controls do not appear.
- Open the game’s Settings, Controls or Input menu and select keyboard-and-mouse bindings if the title provides that option.
- Test movement, camera control and menu navigation. If gameplay works but a menu does not, keep a controller nearby; that is a known limitation for some supported titles.
- Adjust sensitivity, key bindings and accessibility options inside the game rather than assuming the console’s controller settings apply.
Wireless devices that depend on proprietary drivers, USB receivers or companion software may not behave like a simple wired USB keyboard and mouse. Compatibility is game-specific even when the console recognizes the hardware.

Troubleshooting when input does not work
- The console sees the devices but the game does not: confirm that the title and exact edition carry the Console Keyboard & Mouse capability, then quit and relaunch the game.
- Only one device works: check the game’s input settings. The title may have limited support for keyboard or mouse rather than both.
- Gameplay works but menus do not: use a controller for navigation; this is an explicitly documented limitation for some entries.
- A recent update broke support: check the current Store capability tag and the game developer’s patch notes. Input implementations can change after updates.
- Cloud play ignores the devices: verify cloud-specific support instead of relying on the installed-console list, and reconnect the peripherals before starting the stream.
How to verify a game before you play
- Search the Microsoft Store for the exact game edition.
- Check the Console Keyboard & Mouse capability filter or capability section.
- Compare the entry with a current maintained list for limitation notes.
- Confirm whether you will install the game locally or use Xbox Cloud Gaming.
- Plan to keep a controller available until you have tested the title’s menus and setup flow.
