Running a modpack with friends? Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks (CurseForge, FTB, Technic) and free DDoS protection.
For a stable All the Mods 10 server, match the client and server pack release, use Java 21, and configure the supplied launcher rather than editing its startup scripts. The AllTheMods multiplayer guidance suggests 10 GB of RAM for 2–5 players, 12–14 GB for 5–15 players, and at least 16 GB for larger groups; those are planning bands, not performance guarantees.
Install the matching official server pack, accept the EULA on first launch, then use settings.cfg for launcher variables, server.properties for vanilla rules, and the active world’s serverconfig directory for mod settings such as FTB Essentials commands.

What ATM10 requires before you change settings
All the Mods 10 is a large NeoForge modpack in the Minecraft 1.21 ecosystem. The official pack listing is associated with Minecraft 1.21, while the project repository identifies the 1.21.1 line. That distinction matters: choose one exact ATM10 release before downloading anything, and use the server pack, client pack, and loader that belong to that release. A client on a different pack build can fail to connect even when both installations are broadly labelled “ATM10.”
- A dedicated server folder with enough free disk space for the pack, libraries, logs, backups, and world growth.
- Java 21 available to the account that will run the server.
- The official server files for the exact ATM10 release your players installed.
- Permission to open the chosen network port and to create scheduled backups.
Do not copy a world or configuration from a different ATM10 release without a backup. Mod updates can change generated configuration files and world data.

Install the official server pack
1. Download and extract the matching files
Download the server files listed with your selected ATM10 release. Extract them to a dedicated folder rather than a general Downloads directory. Keep the folder path simple and writable; a path such as D:MinecraftATM10 or /srv/minecraft/atm10 makes later troubleshooting easier.
2. Start once to generate files
On Windows, run startserver.bat. On Linux, run startserver.sh from the server directory. The first run normally creates the EULA file and other configuration directories before stopping.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
3. Accept the EULA and restart
Open the generated eula.txt, change the line to eula=true, save it, and run the same launcher again. Only accept the EULA if you agree to Mojang’s terms. The second start creates the world and the files you will configure.
4. Protect the working installation
Stop the server cleanly before copying files. Back up the entire server folder, or at minimum the world, settings.cfg, server.properties, and each world’s serverconfig directory, before a pack update. A backup made while the process is writing region files may be incomplete.
Use Java 21 and verify the executable
Current ATM10 multiplayer guidance specifies Java 21. Installing Java 21 is not enough when several Java versions are present: the launcher may still resolve an older system default.

- Install a 64-bit Java 21 runtime or JDK for the operating system and architecture hosting the server.
- Open the supplied launcher or start script and identify how it selects Java. The script may expose a Java path setting or an environment variable.
- Point that setting or variable to the intended Java 21 executable, such as the platform’s
javabinary. - Start the server and read the first lines of the console or log to confirm the selected Java version. Do not rely on the version shown by a separate terminal if the launcher uses its own path.
If the launcher reports an unsupported class version, exits immediately, or loads a different Java release than expected, correct the launcher path first. Updating the operating system’s default Java does not necessarily change a hard-coded path in the server scripts.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →How much RAM does an ATM10 server need?
The AllTheMods multiplayer guide gives these starting points. They describe the Java heap allocation for a group, not a guaranteed frame rate or tick time.
| Concurrent players | Guide’s RAM planning band | What can increase demand |
|---|---|---|
| 2–5 | 10 GB | Fast exploration, chunk generation, automation, high view distance |
| 5–15 | 12–14 GB | Multiple bases, farms, dimensions, simultaneous exploration |
| 15+ | 16 GB or more | Heavy automation, many loaded chunks, sustained exploration by many players |
Use the band as a capacity plan rather than an absolute requirement. Chunk generation, view distance, simulation distance, machines, dimensions, and how many players explore new terrain at once can move a server from one band to the next. Leave headroom for the operating system and other services; assigning every gigabyte to the JVM can cause host-level swapping and make performance worse.
CPU and storage matter too
The same guidance recommends NVMe storage and increasing CPU capacity as player count rises. RAM cannot compensate for a processor that cannot complete the main server tick or for slow storage during world generation. An NVMe drive reduces wait time for region and mod data, while a stronger CPU helps when many entities, machines, and chunks are active.
No independent controlled benchmark establishes a universal ATM10 number. Treat the figures above as the guide’s recommendations, then observe tick-time warnings, garbage-collection pauses, CPU saturation, and memory usage under your actual play pattern.

Configure startup behavior in settings.cfg
The AllTheMods Server-Scripts documentation puts launcher variables in settings.cfg. Use one SETTING=VALUE per line, with no spaces around the equals sign. Most importantly, do not edit ServerStart.bat or ServerStart.sh; those files are supplied launchers and can be replaced by an update.
Set the maximum Java allocation
MAX_RAM controls the JVM’s maximum allocation. Set it to the amount you selected from the player-count plan, while retaining host headroom. For example, a small group might use MAX_RAM=10G. The exact value should match your host’s available memory and the workload you expect, not simply the largest number the machine can display.
Choose a world type
DEFAULT_WORLD_TYPE changes the world type used when a new world is created. Change it before generating the world if you want the setting to apply at creation time. Existing terrain is not retroactively regenerated by changing this variable.
Apply changes safely
- Stop the server and wait until the process exits.
- Copy
settings.cfgto a dated backup. - Edit one variable at a time, preserving the exact name and the no-spaces format.
- Start with the supplied launcher and inspect the console for parsing or Java errors.
- Record the working value before changing another setting.
Use server.properties for vanilla controls
server.properties is the right place for Minecraft’s built-in server rules. Typical controls include:
Recommended Free Tools
- Difficulty and default game mode
- Whitelist status and maximum players
- View distance and simulation distance
- Message of the day (MOTD)
- Network port
Stop the server before editing, preserve a copy of the last working file, and change one property at a time. Some changes are read only during startup, so restart after saving. A port change also requires matching firewall and router rules, and players must use the new port when connecting.
Rank #4
- Skins! We have biome settlers, city folk, town folk, and more!
- The Nether and all its inhabitants. Fight Ghasts and make friends with Pigmen
- Cross platform play for up to five players between Pocket Edition and Windows 10
- Revamped touch controls, controller support, and a controller mapping screen
- Enhanced Weather effects! Accumulating snow and more
View distance controls how far chunks are sent to clients; simulation distance controls how far game logic remains active. Raising both increases CPU, memory, and storage activity, especially when players spread out. Lowering them can help a busy server without changing the modpack.
Find mod-specific settings in the active world’s serverconfig
NeoForge and the mods in ATM10 generate many settings per world. Look under the active save’s serverconfig directory rather than editing a similarly named template elsewhere. The path follows the world name, for example:
saves/worldName/serverconfig/
World names vary, so replace worldName with the directory used by your live server. Pack releases can also add or rename files. Always stop the server, back up the file, edit it, and restart to load the change.
FTB Essentials: /home, /back, and /rtp
ATM10’s FAQ identifies saves/worldName/serverconfig/ftb-essentials.snbt as the file controlling FTB Essentials behavior. It is the place to adjust /home behavior or re-enable /back and /rtp when those commands are disabled in your installation.
- Stop the server completely.
- Open the active world’s
serverconfig/ftb-essentials.snbt. - Make a backup before changing any values.
- Use the existing option names and value types in the file; do not invent a new key or change the SNBT structure.
- Save, restart, and test each command with a non-operator account if permissions are part of the problem.
If the file is missing, start the world once so the mod can generate it. If your changes appear to do nothing, verify that you edited the active world and not a similarly named save, then check the server log for a syntax error.

Self-hosting or managed hosting?
Both approaches can run ATM10. The decision is mainly about who operates Java, files, networking, backups, and upgrades.
| Consideration | Self-hosting | Managed hosting |
|---|---|---|
| Control | Direct access to hardware, scripts, and every configuration file | Depends on the provider’s panel and file access |
| Recurring cost | No hosting fee, but you supply the computer, electricity, storage, and network | Recurring fee for allocated resources and support |
| Setup effort | You install Java, the server pack, firewall rules, backups, and updates | Panel tools can reduce routine administration |
| Performance headroom | Limited by your machine and other services sharing it | Depends on the plan’s CPU, RAM, storage, and contention |
| Backups and updates | You design and verify them | May be automated, but retention and restore features vary |
Questions to ask before choosing a host
- Can it run Java 21 and NeoForge for the exact ATM10 release?
- Can you upload the complete official server pack and pin a specific version?
- Does the panel expose
settings.cfg,server.properties, and the world’sserverconfigfiles? - Are NVMe storage, sufficient CPU capacity, and the required RAM included?
- Can you download a full backup and restore it without opening a support ticket?
- Are network ports, scheduled restarts, logs, and console access available?
A managed service reduces operating work, but it cannot compensate for an undersized plan or a panel that hides the files ATM10 requires. Self-hosting provides maximum control while making you responsible for firewall security, Java updates, backups, and recovery.
Common problems and targeted fixes
Players receive a mod or version mismatch
Confirm that every client and the server use the same ATM10 release, Minecraft line, and NeoForge loader. Reinstall from the matching pack files rather than mixing individual mods from another release.
The server uses the wrong Java version
Inspect the Java path used by the launcher, not only the result of a system-wide java --version command. Point the launcher setting or its documented environment variable to Java 21, then restart.
The server stops after the first launch
Open eula.txt, set eula=true, save it, and launch again. If it still stops, read the console for a Java path, permissions, or missing-file error.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsChanging a setting has no effect
Check the scope of the setting. Launcher values belong in settings.cfg, vanilla rules in server.properties, and mod behavior in the active world’s serverconfig. Stop and restart when the setting is read only at startup.
Lag appears when players spread out
New chunk generation and simultaneous exploration are unusually demanding. Check CPU and storage activity, reduce view or simulation distance if necessary, and keep additional RAM and CPU headroom rather than assigning the entire host to the JVM.
Quick Recap
Operational checklist
- Pin one ATM10 release and use its matching client and server packs.
- Run the supplied launcher; do not modify
ServerStart.batorServerStart.sh. - Verify that the launcher actually uses Java 21.
- Set
MAX_RAMinsettings.cfgwith no spaces around=. - Use
server.propertiesfor vanilla rules and the live world’sserverconfigfor mod rules. - Back up the world and configuration files before every pack or configuration update.
- Test command permissions and behavior after changing FTB Essentials settings.
- Monitor CPU, memory, storage, and tick-time behavior as the player count and explored area grow.
