Start with the original [OG] All Star Tower Defense experience on Roblox. Your first priorities are to summon a small roster, build a six-unit team around clear roles, learn to spend Cash on in-battle upgrades, and clear Story Mode before experimenting with endurance and event modes. The live lobby, banners, shops, and update board are authoritative for rules that can change.
Make sure you opened the original game
Several Roblox experiences use similar names. This guide covers [OG] All Star Tower Defense by Top Down Games, not All Star Tower Defense X. They are separate experiences with different systems. The original listing describes an hourly refresh for its Summon Gate and Emote Shop, while the official ASTD X listing describes a 30-minute Summon Gate refresh. If your lobby, banner timers, or menus do not match the instructions here, return to the experience page and confirm which game you launched.

The developer’s short description captures the objective: “Use your units to fend off waves of enemies.” Units have individual abilities, and upgrades can unlock new attacks. You summon outside a match, deploy during a match, and improve units as enemy waves arrive.

- Enter the lobby and inspect the current banners. Open the Summon Gate and read the banner name, cost, featured units, timer, and any displayed pity or guarantee text. Banner rules are live-game data, so do not rely on an old screenshot or a remembered cost.
- Summon a practical starting roster. You want enough units to fill the six available team slots eventually, but the first six pulls do not need to be perfect. Keep units that cover different jobs rather than six copies of the same attack type.
- Choose Story Mode for your first progression runs. Story stages provide a controlled introduction to placement, wave timing, enemy paths, and upgrade decisions. Start solo if you need to learn the interface; invite teammates when you understand what your own units do.
- Place units where their ranges matter. Watch the path before spending all your starting Cash. A unit covering a long section of track, a bend, or a spawn approach usually gives more value than one placed where enemies pass only briefly.
- Upgrade during the battle. Cash is the match currency used to improve units. Select a deployed unit and buy its available upgrades as waves provide income. Read the upgrade preview: a purchase may increase damage, range, attack speed, or unlock a different attack.
- Reinvest after each wave. Keep enough Cash for the next useful upgrade or an additional needed role. A single expensive unit with no coverage can leave the rest of the path undefended.
- Review the result before changing your team. Note which wave caused the loss, whether enemies leaked because of damage or placement, and which upgrades were affordable in time. Change one role or placement at a time so you can identify what helped.
The official game description names cooperative Story Mode and an infinity tower as core destinations. Treat a failed run as information about timing and coverage, not as proof that you need a particular “best” unit.
Build a six-unit team by function
A fan-maintained All Star Tower Defense guide recommends thinking of a six-unit roster in complementary roles. This is a beginner framework, not an official balance tier list. Exact unit strength changes with patches, availability, map layout, and mode rules.

Pick a leader that matches the plan
Do not select a leader solely because its rarity looks impressive. Compare its effect with the units you actually own and the mode’s rules. A leader that helps damage may be preferable for a first clear, while a utility-oriented effect can matter more in a long endurance run.

Pair damage with economy
Damage units win waves, but upgrades cost Cash. An economy unit can smooth the point where you would otherwise delay an important upgrade. Place and protect it according to its ability; do not sacrifice the opening defense merely to chase future income.
Use support to solve a problem
Slow or other control effects are most useful when they overlap the part of the path where your damage is concentrated. Buffs should reach the units doing the actual work. If a support unit never affects an enemy or ally in your formation, replace it with a role that does.

Keep the sixth slot flexible
The sixth slot is where you adapt. Bring extra damage for a short story map, a specialist for a troublesome enemy type, or another support unit when a long path gives utility time to pay off. There is no evidence that one fixed six-unit list is optimal for every map or update.
Currency guide: what each resource does
The following six names and reported functions come from a fan-maintained currency guide. Banner costs, earning rates, event shops, and availability can rotate, so verify the current description in the game before spending.

Do not confuse Cash with lobby currencies
Cash exists inside a match. Gems, Gold, Stardust, Tokens, and Candy are account or lobby resources used for summons, shops, or events according to the community guide. A large lobby balance does not replace the Cash you need to deploy and upgrade units in the current run.

Verify volatile claims in the live interface
Community pages may publish thresholds, earning methods, codes, pity targets, or event-expiry dates. Those details can become inaccurate after an update. Use the banner’s own cost and guarantee text, the shop’s current inventory, and the lobby’s event timer as your source of truth. Do not plan a farming route around an unverified “fastest” method.
Game modes and when to try them
Story Mode and the infinity tower are named in the official original-game listing. A fan-maintained guide also uses the labels Regular Infinite, Progressive Modes, Category Raids, and Gauntlet. The wider list is community terminology; the live lobby determines which modes are currently available and what rules they use.

Choose by objective, not by a universal “best farm” claim
- Need fundamentals? Play Story Mode and concentrate on placement, upgrade timing, and enemy leaks.
- Want endurance practice? Try the infinity tower or the lobby’s current Infinite variant after you can clear early story waves consistently.
- Have a specialized roster? Read the restrictions for raids, Progressive Modes, or Gauntlet before entering; a strong general team may be invalid there.
- Chasing rewards? Compare the reward panel and time commitment shown in-game. The consulted pages do not establish a permanent reward table or one mode that is always the best farm.
A practical first-session progression plan
- Read every menu once. Locate the Summon Gate, Emote Shop, team editor, Story Mode entrance, infinity tower entrance, update board, and any event portal. Knowing where systems live prevents accidental spending.
- Record your six-slot gaps. On paper or in a note, label your current units as damage, economy, buff, control, leader, or flex. The labels can overlap; the purpose is to reveal what your team cannot do.
- Run an early Story stage. Place only the units needed to stop the opening waves, then save for the upgrade that changes their attack or improves coverage.
- Test one formation change. Move a unit to a bend or longer firing lane, or replace one redundant attacker with support. Compare the wave at which you struggle.
- Use the next summon to fill a role. If your team already has damage but no economy or control, prioritize a banner that can address that gap only after checking its current contents and cost.
- Try cooperative Story Mode. Coordinate who supplies damage, income, and utility rather than bringing six identical attackers. Communication matters because each player’s placement affects the shared path.
- Enter an endurance or community-listed mode. Do this after you understand your opening sequence. Inspect restrictions and rewards first, then treat the run as a test of scaling rather than a guaranteed payout.
Common beginner mistakes and fixes
Spending every resource immediately
Symptom: You empty Gems, Gold, or Stardust without checking the banner, then discover that the units do not fill a team need. Fix: Read the current banner, timer, and guarantee text first. Keep a reserve until you know which role is missing.
Taking six damage units
Symptom: Your roster looks powerful, but upgrades arrive too slowly or enemies pass through control points. Fix: Add economy, a buffer, or control where the map and mode allow it. A role-based team is a starting framework, not a rarity contest.

Upgrading one unit while ignoring coverage
Symptom: One unit has expensive upgrades while another path segment is undefended. Fix: Buy the least expensive upgrade that closes the immediate leak, then return to your main damage carry.
Placing support outside useful range
Symptom: A slow or buff unit is deployed but never affects the enemies or allies that matter. Fix: Check its range after each upgrade and move it to overlap the damage cluster or a high-traffic section of the path.

Assuming community labels are official guarantees
Symptom: You enter a mode expecting a reward, restriction, or rule described in an older guide and find a different lobby. Fix: Treat community names as navigation hints. Read the current mode panel and event timer before starting.
Confusing the two similarly named experiences
Symptom: Timers, currencies, or units do not match this guide. Fix: Leave the lobby and verify that the title is the original [OG] All Star Tower Defense experience, not ASTD X.

Where to check updates and current rules
The original game’s official description directs players to the update board in the lobby or the developer’s social links for updates and codes. Use those in-game or official channels for current announcements. A code, event shop, banner, or mode can expire even when a third-party page still lists it. Check the date and timer attached to the feature before acting.
Because the official listing itself was displayed as updated October 8, 2026, while live Roblox systems can change after that date, treat hourly rotations, event currencies, summon availability, and mode rosters as mutable. Re-read the interface whenever you return after an update or a long break.
What a good beginner team looks like
There is no single permanent best-six list established by the available sources. A sound beginner team is one in which every slot has a job, the leader effect supports that job, the economy plan pays for upgrades, and damage plus utility cover the map’s actual path. Start with Story Mode, use Cash deliberately during waves, and let the current lobby—not an old tier list—determine which summons and modes are available.
