The Alienware AW3926QW combines a 39-inch, 5120 × 2160 OLED screen with a 165Hz native refresh rate and a lower-resolution 330Hz mode. Its RGB-stripe panel is a notable benefit for text clarity, but the glossy screen, OLED burn-in considerations and demanding native gaming resolution make it a better fit for some desks and users than others.
What are the AW3926QW’s key specifications?
Dell describes the AW3926QW as its first 39-inch 5K monitor with RGB-stripe tandem OLED technology. Reviews identify it as a curved, glossy 21:9 display with a native resolution of 5120 × 2160. Dell’s product page describes the panel technology, while RTINGS’ review reports its display characteristics and performance.
| Feature | AW3926QW |
|---|---|
| Screen size and aspect ratio | 39 inches, 21:9 |
| Native resolution and refresh rate | 5120 × 2160 at 165Hz |
| Dual Mode | 2560 × 1080 at 330Hz |
| Panel and finish | RGB-stripe tandem OLED; glossy |
The key distinction is between the two refresh modes: 330Hz is available at 2560 × 1080, not at the full 5120 × 2160 resolution. The lower-resolution mode can suit games where frame rate takes priority, but it gives up considerable image detail and workspace.

Native 5K2K gaming
At 5120 × 2160 and 165Hz, the monitor offers a large, high-detail ultrawide view with a fast refresh rate. RTINGS reports low input lag and sharp motion. The trade-off is the graphics workload: rendering at this resolution demands a capable GPU, as PC Gamer’s review cautions. Whether a particular graphics card can sustain high frame rates will depend on the game and settings; the monitor’s headline refresh rate does not guarantee that performance.

When Dual Mode makes sense
Dual Mode raises the maximum refresh rate to 330Hz by switching to 2560 × 1080. That can be useful when responsiveness and frame rate matter more than fine detail, but it is a substantial drop from native resolution. Consider whether the games you play benefit more from the higher refresh ceiling or from the extra pixels before choosing this monitor for its Dual Mode specification.
VRR flicker
RTINGS reports distracting variable-refresh-rate flicker when frame rates fluctuate in dark scenes. This is worth considering if you often play games with dark imagery and variable frame rates; the effect may be less relevant in other content or stable frame-rate conditions.

Is text clear on the AW3926QW?
The RGB-stripe subpixel arrangement is one of this display’s more distinctive work-use features. RTINGS reports sharp text without fringing, making the panel potentially more comfortable for reading and general desktop work than OLED screens whose subpixel layouts can produce visible text artifacts. Its 5120 × 2160 resolution also supplies a broad workspace for side-by-side windows.
That benefit comes with a glossy finish. Reflections can be distracting in a bright or sunny room, according to RTINGS. TechSpot’s comparison of the Alienware with LG’s 39GX950B notes that the Alienware’s RGB layout and glossy coating can favor text clarity, while a matte coating may be preferable for reflection handling. Choose based on the actual lighting in your room, not text clarity alone.

Will it fit your desk and setup?
A 39-inch ultrawide needs more physical space than a typical monitor, and Tom’s Guide says the AW3926QW calls for a relatively large desk. Check the available width and depth, viewing distance, and space for the stand before buying; screen size alone does not tell you whether the setup will feel comfortable.
Tom’s Guide lists two HDMI ports, one DisplayPort, USB-B, two USB-C ports and two USB-A ports, and notes VESA mounting. RTINGS says USB-C supports DisplayPort Alt Mode and 90W power delivery. Because port specifications can vary by region, confirm the details for the model sold where you live using Tom’s Guide’s review and the regional Dell listing. If you plan to mount it on an arm, check the monitor’s official manual for its mounting pattern and weight, then verify the arm’s supported load and screen size.

- 360Hz refresh rate translates to superb motion clarity, empowering players to see and react to in-game situations at high speed.
- 0.03 ms gray-to-gray minimum response time** virtually eliminates blurring and ghosting and keeps latency to an absolute minimum.
- Infinite contrast ratio and VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 make for deep blacks and stunning brights, all in the same scene.
- Excellent color performance with DCI-P3 99.3% color coverage and Delta E<2 accuracy for true-to-life visuals.
What OLED trade-offs should you consider?
Reviewers describe the AW3926QW’s OLED image as having deep blacks and vivid color. OLED also brings a longer-term consideration: RTINGS warns of burn-in risk when static elements remain on screen persistently. If the monitor will show the same desktop layout, taskbar or application interface for long periods, factor that usage into your decision rather than assuming gaming use is the only relevant case.

How does it compare with the LG 39GX950B?
TechSpot says the Alienware and LG 39GX950B share the 39-inch, 5K2K Tandem WOLED format and a 165Hz native refresh rate, but differ in subpixel arrangement and screen coating. TechSpot characterizes the Alienware’s RGB layout and glossy surface as clearer for text, while the LG’s matte surface may handle reflections better. TechSpot’s comparison is useful if those two traits drive your choice.
Those shared headline specifications do not make the displays interchangeable: the coating and subpixel behavior can affect daily use, and room lighting may matter more than a small difference in a spec sheet. The cited comparison does not establish current prices, so check live regional listings before deciding on value.
Is the Alienware AW3926QW worth it?
The AW3926QW is most compelling if you want a large, high-resolution OLED ultrawide that can also switch to a very high refresh rate at reduced resolution, and if clear desktop text matters alongside gaming. It is less suitable if your desk is cramped, your room has unavoidable bright reflections, your GPU is not up to demanding 5K2K games, or your work keeps static interface elements on screen for long stretches. The choice turns on those practical fit questions, not the 330Hz figure by itself.
